madoff23smallTonight, ABC airs the first half of its two-part Madoff original movie event, inspired by ABC News Chief Investigative Correspondent Brian Ross’s book “The Madoff Chronicle.” It is a dramatization of the rise and fall of investment advisor Bernie Madoff (Richard Dreyfuss), who pulled off the largest financial Ponzi scheme in US history. The miniseries takes a look at how the events affected Madoff’s family and associates, including wife Ruth (Blythe Danner), sons Mark (Tom Lipinski) and Andrew (Danny Defarrari), brother Peter (Peter Scolari), secretary Eleanor Squillari (Erin Cummings), and CFO Frank DiPascali (Michael Rispoli). The rest of the characters include Harry Markopolos (Frank Whaley), the securities industry executive who first discovered what Madoff was up to, Carl Shapiro (Charles Grodin), who lost billions of dollars, and Gregory Perkins (Lewis Black).

I remember hearing about Bernie Madoff on the news but never really followed all of the details. I’m looking forward to checking this out tonight and learning what really went on during this big scandal. It looks like they’ve assembled quite an amazing cast!

The first half of the film airs tonight on ABC at 8/7c, and the 2-hour conclusion airs tomorrow.

I’ll also be watching/recording Arrow, Supernatural, Young & Hungry, Baby Daddy, Man Seeking Woman, Suits, Face Off, Younger, and Teachers.

americancrimestory22smallTonight, FX kicks off its new true-crime limited series, American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson. The series comes from executive producer Ryan Murphy (Glee, American Horror Story, Scream Queens) and is based on the book “The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson” by Jeffrey Toobin. On June 12, 1994, Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman were found murdered outside their home, and one of the prime suspects was Brown’s ex, athlete/actor O.J. Simpson. The massive news frenzy really took off five days later as the world was glued to their TVs watching that iconic police chase involving a white Ford Bronco. This series recreates those events and gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at what went on in both sides of the case during that famous trial, which lasted almost a year.

O.J. Simpson’s (Cuba Gooding Jr.) crack defense team includes Johnnie Cochran (Courtney B. Vance), Robert Kardashian (David Schwimmer), Robert Shapiro (John Travolta), and F. Lee Bailey (Nathan Lane), while the prosecution includes Marcia Clark (Sarah Paulson), Christopher Darden (Sterling Brown), and Los Angeles DA Gil Garcetti (Bruce Greenwood). And presiding over the case is Judge Lance Ito (Kenneth Choi).

I remember watching the original car chase and catching bits of the trial on TV, but I never paid that much attention. This series has been getting rave reviews from those who’ve had a chance to see the first few episodes, so I’m looking forward to checking out tonight’s premiere. Plus, look at that cast!

On tonight’s premiere, “From the Ashes of Tragedy,” investigators visit the home of O.J. Simpson following the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.

Check out the beginning of this new “reality” show tonight on FX at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Fresh Off the Boat, The Muppets, Marvel’s Agent Carter, Hollywood Game Night, New Girl, Grandfathered, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Grinder, The Flash, iZombie, The Expanse, Pitch Slapped, Teen Wolf, and The Shannara Chronicles.

lucifer21smallLast week, we met the devil on FOX’s new drama, Lucifer. I don’t know about you, but I really enjoyed it. It was a lot funnier than I’d expected. Lucifer himself is hysterical in his…not evilness, but mischievousness, I think is the best way to say it. We saw it first when he bribed the cop when he was caught for speeding, and it lasted the entire episode. One of my favorite parts was when he was talking to police detective Chloe’s daughter, Trixie, and then scared the mean girl. All I could think was how good it would have been to have him around when I was in school. I also loved Lauren German as Chloe. She’s a great foil opposite Lucifer. It’ll be interesting to see their relationship (whatever that may be) develop. Of course, then there’s the issue of Lucifer being asked to return to hell… I’m not really liking Amenadiel or Maze yet. He’s kind of an ass and she’s kind of a…well, I won’t say it. LOL

On tonight’s episode, “Lucifer, Stay. Good Devil,” when a movie star’s son is killed after being chased by the paparazzi, Chloe takes a deep look into the case with a little help from Lucifer. Meanwhile, Maze and Amenadiel continue to encourage Lucifer to go back to hell.

To see how Lucifer can help Chloe solve the case, tune in to FOX at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Kids Baking Championship, Superstore, Cake Wars, Ellen’s Design Challenge, & The Magicians.

greaselivesmallWe’ve had The Sound of Music, Peter Pan, and The Wiz. Now, we get another classic: Grease. Julianne Hough (Dancing with the Stars) and Aaron Tveit (Graceland) star as the iconic Sandy and Danny, with other big names such as Ana Gasteyer, Carly Rae Jepsen, Mario Lopez, and Vanessa Hudgens among others.

What’s interesting about the production tonight is that the cast will be wearing GoPro cameras between scenes to show audiences online the frenetic chaos that goes on as they sprint from set to set and get ready to do the next scene. They WANT the audience to see the production of it, as well as enjoy the musical as they normally would, and that’s definitely something new and different.

Sing along tonight with the songs you remember and hear new ones too on FOX at 7/6c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing American Ninja Warrior, Guy’s Grocery Games, Worst Cooks in America, CSI: Cyber, & Cutthroat Kitchen.

undateable2015smallTonight, Undateable closes out its live season with a special 1-hour finale. I’ve had mixed feelings about this past season. I really like the idea of a live show and the fun/danger that adds – What could go wrong? or Who will mess up their lines or experience some sort of prop malfunction? Most of this cast comes from a stand-up-comedy background, so they are used to performing live, and it shows. They have great chemistry and work really well together, and adding Whitney Cummings into the mix was a great decision. It’s also impressive that they’ve been doing live shows for both the East and West Coasts. The one thing that bugs me about this new live format is how the actors will often break character to make personal jabs at one another to solicit a reaction. While this may be funny, it completely takes me out of the show and makes it feel more like I’m watching actors interact on stage rather than watching characters come to life in a story.

I’m not sure how the show has been doing in the ratings or if it even has a chance of returning for a fourth season. But I’m sure tonight’s double-episode finale will go all out and probably feature a bunch of fun cameos like the season premiere. Plus, this week’s musical guest will be the Backstreet Boys!

Catch the live 1-hour finale tonight on NBC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Grimm, MasterChef: Junior, Second Chance, and Childrens Hospital.
