greatholidaybakingshowsmallI love cooking competition shows – that’s no shocker. One of my favorites is The Great British Baking Show and its various “sister shows.” We’ve seen a version of it in the US already, but tonight is the series premiere of The Great Holiday Baking Show on ABC. Six home bakers will compete in three challenges, with one baker being sent home, each week. The judges for this series are Mary Berry (England’s “Royal Queen of Baking,” author and television personality), who judges the British versions, and James Beard Award-Winning pastry chef and author, Johnny Iuzzini. And hosting this series are husband and wife duo Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) & Ian Gomez (Cougar Town).

I’ve seen the premiere, and I gotta say I love all the hosts and judges. I adore Nia and Ian, who I’ve enjoyed watching on a few episodes of Celebrity Name Game), and Mary and Johnny are fun judges. As always, this is going to be a fun four weeks of great baking!

On tonight’s episode, “Cookie Week,” the bakers compete in three challenges: Signature Bake, showcasing their family recipes as they create two sets of Christmas cookies that are both delicious and unique; Technical Bake, a surprise recipe where they must demonstrate precision and technique; and finally, the Showstopper Bake, where the bakers are asked to create elaborate flavorful gingerbread houses.

See the fun and flavorful cookies the bakers bake tonight on ABC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Guy’s Grocery Games, Cake Wars, Major Crimes, Guilty Pleasures, Superstore, & Top 5 Restaurants.

thewalkingdead1129smallTonight is the midseason finale of The Walking Dead. Last week we finally got confirmation of what most people were assuming…that Glenn is indeed alive and that he survived by crawling under the dumpster. After the walkers retreated, he made his way out and came across Enid, who threw him a bottle of water. She tried to run away, but he caught up with her. They found a helium tank and balloons and headed back toward Alexandria.

Back at Alexandria, while Rick and the others were trying to shore up the fence, Spencer took it upon himself to try to cross the massive wall of walkers using a grappling hook and rope, in hopes of getting to a car to lead the walkers away from the town. However, the hook failed and he found himself dangling like a walker dinner, but Rick and the others managed to pull him up in time (though he lost a shoe). Meanwhile, Carol suspected that Morgan was up to something and followed him to where he had one of the Wolves locked up – while she doesn’t know who is in there, she knows Morgan is hiding something; Ron stole some bullets from the armory and was tailing Carl, with his hand on his gun; and Maggie saw the balloons launched by Glenn and now believes her husband is alive. The episode ended with the crack in the church tower growing, causing it collapse into the fence, allowing a flood of Walkers into Alexandria.

How will they stop Alexandria from getting overrun and redirect the walkers elsewhere? Will any of our favorite characters not survive tonight’s midseason finale, or will we just see more unnamed Alexandrians perish? Will Ron actually shoot Carl? Will others find out about Morgan’s secret prisoner? Will Glenn and Maggie finally be reunited? Is Enid one of the Wolves? And what about Daryl and the others? Will they find their way back in time to help?

On tonight’s episode, “Start to Finish,” after having a few moments of peace, trouble finds its way to Alexandria yet again. Only this time, the threat might be too big to defeat.

To see who, if anyone, doesn’t live through tonight, tune in to AMC at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Madam Secretary, The Good Wife, Once Upon a Time, Quantico, The Librarians, Talking Dead, Into the Badlands, Getting On, and Homeland.

codeblack1125smallSome would say I’m predictable in my television choices because lately they consist of procedurals and medical dramas. However, if loving shows like Code Black makes me mundane, then I’m okay with that. Honestly, I have fallen in love with this show. It is a very well-written, intriguing drama that leaves me wanting more every week.

Last week, we saw Mario struggle with the reality that he got stuck with a needle that had been in a patient with HIV. He panicked but also pretended he’d be fine. Angus figured it out in the end and helped Mario deal with it. Christa was put in the pit to deal with all the patients, but she needed Neal’s help, which is apparently awkward because something happened the night before on their date – which I hope means that they are going to end up together in an actual couple, not just colleagues who have a sexual chemistry. I’m really excited to see where the show takes us, and you should be too, so don’t forget to watch.

On tonight’s episode, “The Son Rises,” when the lead actor of the musical “The Lion King” tour arrives at Angels Memorial with a throat infection, Leanne gives him a diagnosis that puts both his career and life in jeopardy. Also, the doctors and the cast of “The Lion King” help a 17-year-old boy deal with the difficult decision of taking his father off life support.

To see if they can help the actor before he loses his dream career, tune in to CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching Rosewood, Empire, and Cutthroat Kitchen.

ncisnola1124smallI have really fallen in love with NCIS: NOLA. Having one of my favorite “worlds” (the NCIS world) set in unique and picturesque New Orleans has been great. Last episode was killer (no pun intended). I felt so bad for Francesca, the fiancee of the man who was killed. I was glad that I was wrong when I guessed that he might have been in on it. Instead, it was her (unknown to her) half brother who killed her fiance because she was going to be able to inherit some of their recently deceased father’s estate. I did guess correctly that the city-wide blackout was tied into the murder somehow. It was just too coincidental not to be. But poor Francesca… She now knows who her father was, but he’s dead, and now her fiance is dead too. At least she’ll get to know her father’s wife… (Not sure that’s a real positive or not. LOL) I did love how Loretta had to conduct the autopsy via candlelight! That was fun and a little creepy.

I’m excited about tonight’s episode because we’ll get to look back at the early relationship between Pride and Lasalle. I always love getting to see the backstory for characters, and as this one takes a look back just before Hurricane Katrina, it should be a really emotional one.

On tonight’s episode, “Billy and the Kid,” the murder of a Marine provides new clues in the first case Pride and Lasalle ever worked together, just before Hurricane Katrina struck the city and washed away any evidence. Also, the team celebrates Thanksgiving together in Pride’s bar.

See if the team can catch a murderer before they wit down for Thanksgiving dinner tonight on CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Chopped , Grandfathered, NCIS, Chicago Med, MasterChef Canada, & Chicago Fire.

scorpion1123smallMy pick tonight is the exciting new episode of Scorpion. Last week was crazy. The team was tasked to help break into the UN, but what they came to find out was they’d been tricked by the MI6 lady and were supposed to help her agent kill an ambassador…who in his free time is an arms dealer who supplies weapons to child soldiers. But of course Scorpion figured out that the MI6 lady was actually in bed with (so to speak) the ambassador, so they made it look like they were following her orders, when in reality, they and the MI6 agent worked to take down the ambassador AND the MI6 lady legally. It was pretty fun, case-wise. On the personal front, Megan was taken off the ventilator and begged Sylvester for no more. He promised he’d figure out a way, even though Walter had gotten a court order declaring him her legal medical proxy, claiming she wasn’t of sound mind to make the decision herself. Sly’s way of doing that? Marrying her. Ray – who is a crackup! – is a legally ordained minister via some online church, and he married them (off-screen), so when they told Walter and showed him their “Band-Aid rings,” he had no choice but to accept it. He finally agreed no more if it caused her pain and promised he would continue working to save her. They were a couple of really emotional moments between Sly and Megan and also with Walter, Sly, and an asleep Megan.

Tonight is even more exciting and emotional than last week. I’ve seen the screener, and it’s another fun episode case-wise, and it certainly bumps up the emotion. It’s really well done on the part of every member of the team.

On tonight’s episode, “Arrivals and Departures,” when Team Scorpion and Walter’s parents visit Megan in the hospital as her health deteriorates, they are quarantined after a deadly fungus outbreak threatens to infect everyone. Camille Guaty, Pamela Shafer, & Glenn Keogh guest star as Megan, Louise, & Sean O’Brien.

See if the team can stop the fungus outbreak and help Megan tonight on CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Supergirl, Cake Wars, Major Crimes, NCIS: LA, Blindspot, Guilty Pleasures, Castle, & Top 5 Restaurants.
