Early this morning, Netflix launched the new comedy Alexa & Katie. Teenagers Alexa (Paris Berelc, Lab Rats: Elite Force) and Katie (Isabel May) have been best friends all their lives. So when Alexa was diagnosed with cancer and had to undergo chemo, Katie was right there by her side. It’s just days away from their first year of high school. Alexa is doing much better, and she is anxiously awaiting the OK from her doctor. Alexa wants to keep her illness a secret from the others at school so that she isn’t treated any differently, but that may be easier said than done when her hair starts falling out. So now, in addition to the usual high school problems, and dealing with arch nemesis, mean girl Gwenny (Kerri Medders, SEAL Team), Alexa’s got even more things to worry about. However, best friend Katie will be there for her every step of the way.

I checked out the first two episodes of the series and found it to be both fun and heartwarming. It feels like a classic multi-camera sitcom but with a little more heart and drama. The story is more serialized, much like Netflix’s Fuller House. In addition to seeing the girls at school, the series also explores their home lives. Alexa lives with parents Lori (Tiffani Thiessen, Saved by the Bell) and Dave (Eddie Shin, Westworld) and sporty older brother Lucas (Emery Kelly) — on whom Katie has a crush. Meanwhile Katie lives with mother Jennifer (Jolie Jenkins, Liv and Maddie) and younger brother Jack (Finn Carr). The families feel quite grounded and realistic. Katie finds herself constantly having to babysit her brother while her single mother is working. She also has to worry about money a little bit more — she can’t just go out and buy anything she wants. Meanwhile, Alexa’s family loves and supports her, but at the same time her father treats the bald Alexa differently, has trouble communicating with her, and has difficulty seeing her as the daughter he loves.

I look forward to checking out more of this series. Though it is a bit difficult trying to watch a show called Alexa & Katie with an Amazon Echo in the same room. Though it could have been worse — the seres could have been called Alexa & Siri!

All 13 episodes of the first season are now available to stream on Netflix.

I’ll also be watching/recording Santa Clarita Diet, The Mechanism, Game Over, Man!, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and MasterChef: Junior.

Tonight is the series premiere of Station 19, and I am very intrigued by this show. It’s centered around Andy Herrera (Jaina Lee Ortiz, Rosewood), who is the daughter of the head of her Seattle firehouse. Andy is extremely by the books and a fierce woman. We will also see the station’s newest member, Ben Warren (Jason George), who fans of Grey’s Anatomy will recognize as Bailey’s husband Ben, who has left the medical world to be a firefighter. The show also stars Miguel Sandoval (Medium), Grey Damon (Aquarius, Star-Crossed, The Nine Lives of Chloe King), Jay Hayden (The Catch, SEAL Team, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), Alberto Frezza (Dead of Summer), Danielle Savre (Too Close to Home, Supernatural: Bloodlines), Okieriete Onaodowan, & Barrett Doss.

I’m interested to see how this show progresses, as it is a new member of the Shondra Rhimes universe — a very lucrative universe to belong to. Time will tell if people take to it as quickly as they did Grey’s.

On tonight’s 2-episode premiere, “Stuck/Invisible to Me,” when the team responds to an apartment fire, Captain Pruitt takes a hit, the future of the station’s leadership is in jeopardy, and firefighter Andy Herrera is forced to step up. Meanwhile, new recruit Ben Warren is trading in the scalpel for a fresh start as a firefighter, but it hasn’t been easy and he has a hard time realizing that emergencies in the field are vastly different than those at Grey Sloan Memorial. With the absence of Captain Pruitt, Andy and Jack try to navigate how to work together, and a car accident on a rural road puts both the victims and the crew’s lives at risk.

To check out this new drama, tune in to ABC at 9/8c, followed by the second new episode at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching Grey’s Anatomy, A.P. Bio, and Chicago Fire.

Oh snap! Last week’s Chicago PD might have been the most perfectly titled episode to date: “Breaking Point.” The case itself was okay – a prominent alderman was killed, and of course the team solved the case. But the bigger story in my opinion was when Woods came after Olinsky. Apparently a hair of Olinsky’s was found on the dead body of Voight’s son’s killer, and a witness saw a woman in the area as well. Woods, of course, is trying to get to Voight through Olinsky, and it seems like Olinsky is going to hold steady…but when he went to Voight with the news about the witness being credible and said they should talk to Erin to get their stories straight, he may have run into Voight’s “breaking point” in terms of his loyalty to Olinsky: Erin. He said no, they didn’t want to do that yet, or something to that effect. And right then is when Olinsky realized that if it came down to Erin or him for Voight’s loyalty, he would not come out on top. Voight better do something quick if he wants to keep Woods from hearing the whole story from Olinsky!

I’m so excited about tonight’s episode. We get to learn more about Upton’s past, AND Bosch…I mean Titus Weller is guest starring! I love him, and it makes the time until the new season of Bosch starts next month!

On tonight’s episode, “Ghosts,” Upton brings back an old undercover identity to help take down a meth ring spearheaded by a former criminal contact. And with pressure from Woods mounting, Voight calls in a favor for Olinsky.

Find out what favor Voight calls in tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

Tonight, the fourth season of ABC’s Fresh Off the Boat comes to a close. In last week’s episode, Louis was initially thrilled to buy back Kenny Rogers’ stake in Cattleman’s Ranch. However, he soon started to doubt his decision and stressed over the fact that he was now solely responsible for the success or failure of the business. Jessica flew in her psychic from D.C., Madam Xing, to try to help Louis overcome his anxiety. But this just made him even more stressed, causing him to break a tooth. So Louis went to see Marvin, and the laughing gas in the dentist chair finally calmed him nerves but also caused him to have some strange delusions. Meanwhile, Evan announced that he was giving up Live with Regis and Kathie Lee for Lent, recording the episodes on VHS to watch after Lent was over. This annoyed Eddie and Emery, who weren’t giving up anything. So the brothers decided to try to trick Evan into breaking his Lenten sacrifice by tempting him with made-up stories of all the crazy things that happened on the talk show that week.

Even in its fourth season, this series continues to feel…well, fresh and continues to make me laugh each week. The series has done an excellent job of not only maintaining the fun character quirks, traits, and relationships but also allowing these characters to develop and grow over time. Jessica, who will always remain my favorite, has definitely learned to let her hair down and just roll with punches every once in a while, even if things aren’t necessarily happening the way she would like them to. Eddie seems to have changed the most this season, becoming much more responsible and mature. I don’t know if the series will be back for another season, but I really hope so, and I am really looking forward to tonight’s season finale.

On tonight’s season finale, “King in the North,” Honey plans a relaxing vacation before the baby arrives, but Jessica turns the trip into a quest to get Stephen King to endorse her novel; Louis scrambles to make Grandma Huang feel welcome; Eddie and Nicole rebel against the school’s dress code.

See how Eddie and Nicole rebel tonight on ABC at 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Middle, black-ish, For the People, LA to Vegas, The Mick, Black Lightning, and The Detour.

NBC’s Good Girls continues to provide interesting twists and turns. Last week, Rio gave the women a chance to pay off their debt by smuggling something from Canada into the country for him. The women stole a car from Dean’s dealership and drove across the border. They accidentally shot a man in the foot in the process but managed to retrieve the items they were supposed to. At the border, the car was searched, but all that was in the boxes were rolls of wrapping paper. When they dropped off the cargo, the women discovered that the wrapping paper contained rolls of counterfeit money. Rio cleared them of their debt, and now they were officially free. As they were driving back home, celebrating, the ladies learned the police were looking for the stolen vehicle, so they dumped it in the river. This caused Annie to be late for a disasterous home visit by a social worker who could influence the fate of her custody battle with her ex. Meanwhile, Ruby dealt with a parishioner with eyes for her husband, who claimed in front of the entire congregation that she was the “anonymous donor” who paid for their daughter’s medical treatments. And Beth, seeming to miss the excitement and danger of the past few days, left a message for Rio to contact her.

What kind of activities is Beth looking to get involved in? Will her husband figure out what she’s up to? Even though the women are square with Rio, their financial issues still haven’t gone away, so will the others also get sucked into whatever Beth has brewing with Rio? Could the FBI figure out what they are doing and force them to help take down Rio? Does Annie have any chance of keeping custody after what the social worker witnessed in last week’s episode? I’m enjoying this series so far and look forward to seeing what other twists and turns lie ahead.

On tonight’s episode, “Atom Bomb,” Beth comes home to a surprise guest; Beth throws Kenny an elaborate birthday party; Ruby’s employment at the diner is threatened by a disgruntled teenage customer; Annie comes up with a creative solution for dealing with bullies.

See what solution Annie comes up with tonight on NBC at 10:01/9:01c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Good Doctor, The Resident, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, iZombie, UnREAL, The Alienist, and Final Space.
