Tonight marks the halfway point in the third season of Syfy’s Dark Matter. Last week the Raza crew finally learned what hitched a ride with them when they returned from their trip through time last season — it was their doppelgangers from the alternate universe, aboard their own Maurader. The evil Portia Lin and Boone infiltrated one of Zairon’s ships, releasing passengers out the airlock. This started giving our Two and Three a bad reputation and caused Commander Truffault to call off their alliance. Our crew eventually figured out what was going on and were able to stop the alternates. Afterwards, Adrian decided it was time for him to move on, and the others decided to make a trip to check in on Six. However, when they arrived at the colony, it appeared that everyone there was dead.

What happened to the colony? Is Six still alive? Is this really the last we’ve seen of Adrian and his bodyguard Solara? (I hope not, as I was really enjoying those characters — they were a great fit with the rest of the Raza crew!) Will Ryo be able to stop the fall of the House of Ishida? And will he ever return the nice Four we once knew?

On tonight’s episode, “Wish I Could Believe You,” an injured crew member is haunted by the past, unaware of the dangers that are lurking in the present.

Find out who’s haunted by the past tonight on Syfy at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Friends From College, The Great British Baking Show, Ginormous Food, Killjoys, Wynonna Earp, and Playing House.

Kyle and I differ on when Netflix (as well as Amazon & Hulu) shows should be posted. For me, I’m recommending this one tonight because it premieres in the late hours of the night tonight/wee hours of the morning. That way you can watch it first thing when you wake up (or at 3AM if you can’t sleep! LOL).

On that note, my first pick is Friends from College, which premieres the entire first season on Netflix. Keegan-Michael Key (Playing House, Key & Peele), Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother), Annie Parisse (The Following, Law & Order), Nat Faxon (Ben & Kate, Married), Fred Savage (The Grinder), & Jae Suh Park star as a group of friends from Harvard who are about to turn forty years old. They must balance old friendships, former romantic entanglements, and balancing adult life with nostalgia for the past.

With Facebook bringing high school and college friends back together, I think this show is very timely. I think a lot of people will be able to relate, and with such a great cast, I have high hopes that it’ll be a lot of fun to watch for everyone.

Check out the entire first season on Netflix tonight/Friday morning at 3:01AM/2:01AMc.

I’m so excited about tonight’s series premiere of Salvation on CBS. I’m a big fan of natural disaster movies, and the cast of this show combined with that type of story line makes me almost giddy with anticipation. A staggering discovery comes to light: an enormous asteroid is just six months away from colliding with Earth. Without alerting the public, MIT grad student Liam Cole (Charlie Rowe, Red Band Society) and tech billionaire Darius Tanz (Santiago Cabrera, Big Little Lies, Merlin, The Musketeers) team up to save humanity from this impending apocalypse. The government has its own approach. Grace Barrows (Jennifer Finnigan, Tyrant, Close to Home, Better with You) is both the Pentagon Press Secretary and a single mom. Deputy Secretary of Defense Harris Edwards (Ian Anthony Dale, Hawaii Five-0) has been tasked with running the DOD’s own top-secret plan to deflect the asteroid. Meanwhile, Darius recruits an aspiring sci-fi writer, Jillian (Jacqueline Byers, Ascension, Roadies), to work on a theoretical approach to saving humanity—a project that might prove to be all too real.

I love Ian Anthony Dale and Jennifer Finnigan. He was always great as Adam on Hawaii Five-0, and he’s…very good-looking. (In fact, the series as a whole has some very good eye candy for everyone!) And I’ve loved Finnigan since Close to Home, so…I’m super excited about it.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” when MIT grad student Liam Cole discovers an asteroid is set to collide with Earth in 186 days, he joins forces with tech billionaire Darius Tanz and the U.S. government to try and stop it…and together they stumble onto the greatest conspiracy never told. Neil deGrasse Tyson guest stars as himself.

Start your 186-day journey with me tonight on CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing MasterChef, Cutthroat Kitchen, The F Word with Gordon Ramsey, Blood Drive, Cooks vs Cons, & I’m Sorry.

Tonight, TNT kicks off a double-episode premiere of the new series Will, which follows the early adventures of William Shakespeare (Laurie Davidson) as he tries to make his way as a playwright in 16th century London. As the series opens, Will leaves his wife and young children back home in the country to go to London to try to sell his plays. His wife is skeptical that anyone would want to buy his plays, but Will wants to see if there is a fortune to be made in his writings. The London theatre crowds seem to be getting bored with the same old tired tropes, and Will sees an opportunity to step in, but some don’t appreciate the competition. Will is used to the slower life of the country, and in the city he becomes a bit wide-eyed, finding himself the target of both thieves and temptations. This is also a dangerous place for him — the Protestants are torturing and killing the Catholics on sight, so Shakespeare must keep his religion a secret. The series also stars Olivia DeJonge, Ewen Bremner, Colm Meaney, Mattias Inwood (The Shannara Chronicles), Jamie Campbell Bower, William Houston, Lukas Rolfe, Max Bennett, and Jasmin Savoy Brown.

While I wasn’t blown away by tonight’s premiere, it did show some promise. It sets up several different threads to explore over the course of the season. Not only does the series look at what inspired Shakespeare to write some of his most famous plays, but it also explores the political and social climate at the time. The execution of the series kind of reminded me of A Knight’s Tale. It blends a modern soundtrack with a not-so-modern setting.

On tonight’s premiere, “The Play’s the Thing,” in 1589, a time of religious turmoil in England, Will Shakespeare arrives from the small town of Stratford to the wild streets of London with little more than a dream and a treacherous letter. Then on the second episode, “Cowards Die Many Times,” Will is racked with guilt over the arrest of the rival playwright, Baxter, and he makes a dangerous confession to the beautiful and rebellious Alice. The future of the theatre is threatened when the crowd-pleasing actor, Kemp, is tempted by another playhouse.

Go back in time to the 1600s tonight on TNT starting at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Superhuman & Dessert Games.

Tonight, Killjoys returns to kick off its third season on Syfy. In the second season, our crew crossed paths with a mysterious green plasma that had the ability to turn people into practically unkillable super-soldiers. Khlyen’s people would soon be returning to the Quad to try to reclaim its resources, so he hatched a plan to poison the plasma supply in order to make it (and thus the Quad) useless to them. Dutch, Fancy, and D’avin joined him on this quest, but the task proved to be more complicated than he originally planned, and Khlyen was forced to sacrifice himself for the mission. Afterwards, Dutch asked Fancy and D’avin to join her in a new mission to not only win the battle but also the war. They would find and eliminate Aneela, Khlyen’s evil daughter/Dutch lookalike, and put an end to her quest for world domination. Meanwhile, Johnny, still reeling from Pawter’s murder, shot and killed Nine member Delle Seyah, the woman who murdered his love. He then decided to head off on his own for a while but was joined by the arm-gun toting Hackmod Clara.

The third season picks up shortly after these events. Dutch and her new crew are on a quest to find and wipe out the widespread Hullen hives. While she misses her friend Johnny, she understands that he needs some time away to grieve. However, Johnny is just one of many Killjoys who have recently gone AWOL, and now an oversight committee has been established to figure out what is going on. Meanwhile, Johnny is off on his own journey into the world of the Hackmods, where he meets an interesting new partner, who seems to have a target on her head.

I really enjoyed tonight’s premiere. The series still has that excellent blend of action, humor, drama, and mystery. While the team is currently divided, each group has its own interesting storyline, and I’m sure these will come together before the season is over. Tonight’s episode introduces two fun, potentially recurring characters that would make a great addition to the ensemble. The episode also sets up a few larger mysteries to explore over the course of the season. Friday nights are now fully loaded with a great new Syfy lineup!

On tonight’s season premiere, “Boondoggie,” Dutch and D’avin, with the help of an obnoxious black-market dealer, are on the hunt for a weapon that will draw out the Hullen; Johnny receives an SOS from Clara, leading him into the underground world of Hackmods.

Check out the season premiere tonight on Syfy at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Dark Matter, Wynonna Earp, Playing House, and The Great British Baking Show.
