This seems to be the summer of the returning game show, and tonight ABC resurrects another competition series that I always looked forward to as a kid…Battle of the Network Stars. These days celebrities appear on all kinds of reality TV shows, but back in the day, it was a special treat to see a gathering of your favorite network stars battling it out in physical competitions. ABC has recruited 100 celebrities to form themed teams. Each week two of these teams will go head-to-head, competing in various sports. While some of the participants are veterans to the competition, for many this will be their first time.

The series is hosted by ESPN’s Mike Greenberg and Joe Tessitore, while Cassidy Hubbarth and Cari Champion will serve as sideline reporters. And serving as team captains are Super Bowl L winner DeMarcus Ware and MMA fighter/Olympian Ronda Rousey.

For tonight’s premiere, it’s a TV Sitcoms vs TV Kids battle, and it features actors from some of my favorite childhood sitcoms! The TV Sitcoms team includes Bronson Pinchot (Perfect Strangers), Tom Arnold (Roseanne), Dave Coulier (Full House), AJ Michalka (The Goldbergs), & Tracy Gold (Growing Pains). While the TV Kids team features Joey Lawrence (Blossom and Gimme a Break!), Corbin Bleu (High School Musical), Nolan Gould (Modern Family), and BoTNS veterans Lisa Whelchel & Kim Fields (The Facts of Life). Tonight these two teams will compete in golfing, rowing, swimming, playing tennis, doing a relay race, an obstacle course, and more. It should be a fun competition!

See which team takes home the win tonight on ABC at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Gong Show, Big Brother, Zoo, Hollywood Game Night, Hotel Transylvania: The Series, The Mist, and Queen of the South.

Tonight, I’m looking forward to quite a few premieres. In addition to new seasons of Big Brother on CBS and Broadchurch on BBC America, I’m really looking forward to the return of Younger on TV Land. As the third season came to a close, Josh had made his way to the Hamptons to propose to Liza, only to see her kissing Charles. Needless to say, he didn’t go through with his plans. Liza tried to explain that she made a mistake and that she was in love with Josh, but he didn’t want to hear it. When she got home, Kelsey was there, depressed over her breakup with Colin. Liza introduced Kelsey to her 26-year-old daughter and finally admitted to the fact that she was almost 41 years old.

That was one of the moments fans have been waiting for for a long time. There was only so long that Liza could continue to lie to Kelsey and still be her friend. But how will Kelsey react to all this news? Will she keep the secret, or will Liza be out of a job? Will Liza move on to Charles now that things have ended with Josh, or will she continue to try to have her cake and eat it to? I have thoroughly enjoyed the first three seasons of this show, and the series has already been picked up for a fifth, so there’s a lot more to come! I look forward to seeing how this latest chapter kicks off tonight!

On tonight’s premiere, “Post Truth,” Liza deals with the aftermath of coming clean with Kelsey, and Charles tests their synchronicity; Kelsey and Josh become unlikely allies.

See the repercussions of Liza’s actions last season tonight on TV Land at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Okja, To Tell the Truth, Big Brother, The Carmichael Show, MasterChef, Broadchurch, Blood Drive, Big Star Little Star, and Kingdom.

Tonight, USA Network’s hilarious comedy Playing House returns for its third season. In the first season, Maggie (Lennon Parham) discovered that her husband was cheating on her and faced the prospect of raising her newborn baby all on her own. However, childhood best friend Emma (Jessica St. Clair) gave up her lucrative international business career to move back to her Connecticut hometown to be there for Emma and help her raise her daughter. However, she also ran into her first love, local police officer Mark (Keegan-Michael Key), for the first time in 13 years, and this reawakened some old feelings. While Mark was now married, it was evident that the two still had feelings for one another, and at the end of last season, they finally admitted it to one another. Meanwhile, Maggie also moved on with her life, starting a new career as a nurse.

Playing House is a laugh-out-loud show. The two leads have such great chemistry and play off one another impeccably – you can tell they are friends in real life. Not only is the writing filled with lots of jokes and fun situations and pop-culture references, but there is also a lot of wacky physical comedy as well. This season, the women tackle a serious topic as they bring the real-life struggle of one of the actresses into the storyline of the show. However, they are still able to keep the show light and fun and make you laugh while also dealing with a very painful subject.

I attended the Playing House panel at this year’s ATX Television Festival, and these women were just as funny in person as they are in the show. You can tell how much they love making this show, and that comes out in their performances. At the festival, they screened the season premiere to non-stop laughs. There was so much laughing that I missed some of the lines, so I’m looking forward to catching it again tonight!

USA Network will be airing the two episodes of the season each Friday night, but tomorrow all 8 episodes of the season will be made available via On Demand for those who would prefer to binge it all at once. As we head into this third season, what is the state of Emma and Mark’s relationship? How will “Bird Bones” take the news that her husband is in love with someone else? Will Maggie find love again? And what general wackiness with these best friends get up to this season?!

On tonight’s first episode, “Cookie Jar,” Maggie hosts a game night to welcome Bruce’s new girlfriend into the fold; Emma discovers that this is what 40 looks like. Then, in “None of Your Business,” Emma tries to rescue Tina from a pyramid scheme; Maggie starts a nursing rotation with a cold doctor.

Catch up with Maggie, Emma, and their friends tonight on USA Network starting at 11/10c.

I’ll also be watching/recording GLOW, The Great British Baking Show, Ginormous Food, Dark Matter, and Wynonna Earp.

Tonight, Spike kicks off the 10-episode first season of the new horror series, The Mist, which is based off a novella by Stephen King. The series is set in the small town of Bridgeville, ME, where the residents are blissfully unaware of the impending danger that’s making its way over the mountains toward their hamlet. Bryan Hunt (Okezie Morro, Shuga), an Army officer who wakes up with no memory of who he is, discovers the dangers that lurk within the approaching mist and tries to warn the police, but his words fall on deaf ears. Meanwhile, the Copeland family – father Kevin (Morgan Spector, Allegiance), high school teacher Eve (Alyssa Sutherland, Vikings), and their teenage daughter Alex (Gus Birney) – find themselves mixed up in various controversies that threaten to tear the family apart. Other characters in the town include Alex’s odd goth friend Adrian (Russel Posner), the Copeland’s hippie neighbors Natalie (Frances Conroy, American Horror Story, Six Feet Under) and Benedict Raven (Darren Pettie, Good Witch), Police Chief Connor Heisel (Darren Pettie, Madam Secretary) and his high school quarterback son Jay (Luke Cosgrove), local priest Father Romanov (Dan Butler, Banshee), a mysterious woman named Mia (Danica Curcic, The Bridge) who has both a criminal past and a connection to the town, and local mall manager Gus Bradley (Isiah Whitlock, Jr., Law & Order: SVU).

The show feels a lot like The Strain or The Walking Dead – there is this mysterious danger that lurks in the shadows and quickly engulfs this small town. Circumstances have caused people to be separated into various groups of mismatched strangers, and the members of each group will need to figure out how to work together to both stay alive and to reunite with their loved ones. I thoroughly enjoyed tonight’s premiere. It provides a slow burn as it introduces the characters, relationships, and other things happening in this town, while also mixing in some foreboding sights of the dangers to come. By the end of tonight’s episode, things are firing on all cylinders and the show gets really exciting. If I had had the ability to binge the entire season, I probably would have! I can’t wait to see what happens next week.

On tonight’s premiere, “Pilot,” a foreboding mist arrives in a small town, ushering in a terrifying new reality for its residents and putting their humanity to the test.

See if this new show’s for you tonight on Spike TV at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Boy Band, The Gong Show, Hollywood Game Night, Beat Shazam, and Queen of the South.

Tonight, TBS’s island survival comedy Wrecked returns for its second season with two back-to-back episodes. In the first season, a plane crash-landed on a deserted island, leaving a group of strangers to band together in order to survive. However, this bond between the group quickly started to devolve. As the season came to a close, a ship was approaching the island, and everyone was excited that they were going to be saved, but Steve didn’t want to leave. He pulled out a gun and killed Kurt and afterwards took Danny hostage. Owen and Danny managed to overtake Steve and threw him and his supporters into the pit. Afterwards, the boat arrived on shore, but the survivors soon discovered that the men were actually pirates and they were here to kidnap Danny…who is the son of a billionaire!

Tonight we finally get a continuation to that cliffhanger! How is the group going to react to the news that Danny is actually the son of a billionaire? How did the pirates find him, and how do they plan to claim their ransom? What will the pirates do to the rest of the survivors? And will this development cause the group to let Steve and his crew out of the pit?

I really enjoyed the first season of Wrecked. It’s like a wacky, fun version of Lost, with a great blend of parody, pop-culture references, sight gags, and just witty dialogue and fun characters. I checked out tonight’s first episode, and I’m really happy we get two tonight, because that first half just flew by way too quickly. I am really looking forward to the rest of the season!

On tonight’s first episode, “Ransom,” the newly arrived pirates try to ransom Danny while marooning the others; Steve tries to make amends for murdering a survivor. Then, in “Poison,” Pack tries to negotiate a truce with the pirates; Steve pitches Danny on a new business venture.

Catch the two-episode season premiere tonight on TBS starting at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording iZombie, The Bold Type, and Animal Kingdom.
