Tonight, USA Network’s hilarious comedy Playing House returns for its third season. In the first season, Maggie (Lennon Parham) discovered that her husband was cheating on her and faced the prospect of raising her newborn baby all on her own. However, childhood best friend Emma (Jessica St. Clair) gave up her lucrative international business career to move back to her Connecticut hometown to be there for Emma and help her raise her daughter. However, she also ran into her first love, local police officer Mark (Keegan-Michael Key), for the first time in 13 years, and this reawakened some old feelings. While Mark was now married, it was evident that the two still had feelings for one another, and at the end of last season, they finally admitted it to one another. Meanwhile, Maggie also moved on with her life, starting a new career as a nurse.

Playing House is a laugh-out-loud show. The two leads have such great chemistry and play off one another impeccably – you can tell they are friends in real life. Not only is the writing filled with lots of jokes and fun situations and pop-culture references, but there is also a lot of wacky physical comedy as well. This season, the women tackle a serious topic as they bring the real-life struggle of one of the actresses into the storyline of the show. However, they are still able to keep the show light and fun and make you laugh while also dealing with a very painful subject.

I attended the Playing House panel at this year’s ATX Television Festival, and these women were just as funny in person as they are in the show. You can tell how much they love making this show, and that comes out in their performances. At the festival, they screened the season premiere to non-stop laughs. There was so much laughing that I missed some of the lines, so I’m looking forward to catching it again tonight!

USA Network will be airing the two episodes of the season each Friday night, but tomorrow all 8 episodes of the season will be made available via On Demand for those who would prefer to binge it all at once. As we head into this third season, what is the state of Emma and Mark’s relationship? How will “Bird Bones” take the news that her husband is in love with someone else? Will Maggie find love again? And what general wackiness with these best friends get up to this season?!

On tonight’s first episode, “Cookie Jar,” Maggie hosts a game night to welcome Bruce’s new girlfriend into the fold; Emma discovers that this is what 40 looks like. Then, in “None of Your Business,” Emma tries to rescue Tina from a pyramid scheme; Maggie starts a nursing rotation with a cold doctor.

Catch up with Maggie, Emma, and their friends tonight on USA Network starting at 11/10c.

I’ll also be watching/recording GLOW, The Great British Baking Show, Ginormous Food, Dark Matter, and Wynonna Earp.

playinghouse98smallTonight, the (too short) second season of Playing House comes to a close with a double-dose of episodes. Last week, Maggie and Emma headed to Lake Kimmewah to spend the weekend together at their childhood vacation spot. It was the annual Kimmewah Kup paddle boat race, and the girls planned to beat their old nemeses the Custerman twins (played by the Sklar brothers). However, Maggie got upset that Emma was distracted during their gals weekend, constantly texting and calling her boyfriend Rabbi Dan. And when Dan showed up at the cabin, things only got worse. But, as always, the girls talked it out — their friendship can overcome any hurdles!

All I can say is that I love this show. It always makes me laugh out loud, and the relationship between Maggie and Emma feels so natural and real. They make you wish you were part of their world. If you haven’t checked out this show, what are you waiting for?! You can really jump in with any episode and also catch up via On Demand. I really hope tonight’s episodes aren’t the last 2 episodes of the series…and that USA won’t make us wait until December again to find out if the show’s coming back!

On tonight’s first episode, “Officer of the Year,” Emma organizes a policeman’s ball with help from Maggie and Rabbi Dan; Mark doesn’t have a date. And then in “Celebrate Me Scones,” Maggie surprises Emma with tickets to a special concert; and an old friend returns.

Catch the last two episodes of the season tonight on USA Network at 10/9c & 10:30/9:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Zoo, Hollywood Game Night, and Face Off.

playinghouse811smallI had forgotten how much I had missed USA Network’s comedy, Playing House, until I watched last week’s season premiere. The second season picked up about 4 months after the first. Emma and “Bird Bones” finally made their peace, so Mark no longer had to visit Emma and baby Charlotte in secret. After Maggie admitted to having a sex dream with the “Property Brothers” (which was hilarious to watch), Emma decided she was ready to get back into the dating world and set her up with a Tinder profile. After some disastrous rapid-fire dates, Maggie finally met nice guy Dan (Kyle Bornheimer), and the two really hit it off.

Lennon Parham and Jessica St. Clair have such great chemistry together, and the longtime friendship between these actresses really shows in the series. It’s tough to tell what is ad-libbed and what is scripted because all of the fun dialogue and banter feels so natural. This show always keep me smiling from start to finish — it’s a shame that the season is just 8 episodes long!

USA Network is making the following week’s episode available On Demand after each new episode airs, so you can already find tonight’s episode there if you want to watch it early. I couldn’t wait! 🙂

On tonight’s episode, “Cashmere Burka,” Maggie agrees to direct a play written by Gwen; and Emma gets hot and heavy with a new flame.

To see how Emma and her new guy hit it off, tune in to USA Network at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Zoo, Hollywood Game Night, Tyrant, Clipped, Face Off, Scream, and Another Period.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 4/29/14

I get my computer back today! Thank goodness! I didn’t realize how slow this one is until I had to use it while my new one was off getting the mouse button replaced. Eek. I’ll be so glad to have it back. That, combined with all the great TV tonight, makes my Tuesday VERY good. Check out our recommendations to help make your Tuesday a little brighter.

personofinterest429smallPerson of Interest is really ramping up the drama and excitement, what with our almost-superheros battling not only Vigilance, but also Control and Decima. We thought Control was going to be their biggest threat—because while Vigilance is deadly, they’re more than a pain in the ass to Reese, Shaw, & co. than anything—but Decima has now planted a big ol’ target on Reese and, more immediate right now, Finch. During the last episode, Reese and Finch had to protect a congressman, but it turned out that the congressman WAS the threat—to them and the Machine, no less. It was tense for a bit, as Reese and Shaw argued with Finch about whether or not to kill him. I could see both arguments. For a minute, we thought Reeshaw had killed him against Finch’s wishes and pleas, but then we saw them running from the cops (and Shaw get hit in the leg), and right at the end, we saw the congressman alive and well…and pretty much in cahoots with Decima, who got the okay to tap into the country’s surveillance systems. Their first test to show Control how the new Machine can work? Track down Harold Finch.

Eek! Finch and Reese can’t die. Without both of them, the show is no more. But they’ve already killed off Carter, who I thought was integral. I don’t want to lose Shaw or Fusco…or frankly, even Root, who has really grown on me since she’s come over from the dark side…sort of. With only tonight’s episode plus two more left in the season, I’m truly getting worried for all five of them. Will the be able to outsmart Decima? Will all five work closely together to take them down? I’m biting my nails at the thought of what we might see tonight and in the next two weeks!

On tonight’s episode, “Beta,” as Decima uses Samaritan’s feeds to hunt Reese and Shaw, Greer exploits Finch’s greatest weakness in an attempt to lure him out of hiding: his love for his former fiancée, Grace Hendricks.

Find out if Decima gets their dirty, evil little hands on any of the good guys tonight on CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing NCIS, 19 Kids & Counting, Chow Masters, NCIS: LA, The Goldbergs, Growing Up Fisher, Trophy Wife, Chicago Fire, Chopped, The Little Couple, & Playing House.
