hawaiifiveo925smallOn last season’s finale of Hawaii Five-0, Kono and Adam finally got married…after the team found and stopped a nuclear bomb from going off on the island. It had been stolen from a military transport and flown in to Hawaii, but when the team got there, the pilot was dead and the bad guys and the bomb were gone. They thought the main bad guy was in it to sell the bomb for money, but it turned out he just wanted to set it off to start a war that America would finish. When the team found the bomb, it was on a shopping trolley, set to go off in the middle of the city.

Meanwhile, a few days before the wedding, Chin confronted Adam about his connection to the Yakuza, but Adam’s explanation about the man he’d been photographed with made Chin feel better, and when Adam told him that he would give up everything – including his company – it was too sweet. Chin had to go to the car to get the rings, and his brother-in-law, bad-guy Gabriel, surprised him, holding a gun on him. Gabriel was getting back into business, and he offered Chin half his earnings if he stayed out of Gabriel’s way. When Chin turned him down, Gabriel said to turn around, but instead of shooting him, he was gone when Chin turned back.

Finally, Catharine returned to the island for the wedding, surprising Steve, and while their reunion was warm, it was also awkward. I have a feeling she won’t be staying long… And Danny got big news when Rachel asked to speak to him, and she brought Charlie, her son. She said that he was sick and needed a bone marrow transplant, but neither she nor Grace were a match, so she wanted Danny to get tested because…Charlie was his son.

This season starts off right after the ceremony. With Gabriel on the loose, Catherine in town, and now Danny learning he’s got a 2nd kid, it should be a fun season premiere!

On tonight’s episode, “Mai ho`oni i ka wai lana mâlie (Do Not Disturb the Water that is Tranquil),” a murder leads Five-0 to investigate a centuries-old Oahu palace raid involving pirates, buried treasure and a killer who is using a stolen painting as a map. Also, the morning after their wedding, Kono and Adam are threatened and tortured by Gabriel, and Danny shows concern for McGarrett regarding Catherine’s return to the island.

See how Kono and Adam get away from Gabriel and if Five-0 can find the treasure, tune in to CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Amazing Race, Last Man Standing, & Blue Bloods.

heroesreborn924smallNBC’s supernatural series Heroes came to an abrupt end 5 years ago. Tonight, viewers are transported back into that world with the 2-hour premiere of the new limited series Heroes Reborn. This sequel series takes place in the present, so it has also been a long time since the events of the original series. A year prior, a terrorist attack left the town of Odessa, Texas, in ruins. Folks have blamed those with extraordinary powers for the deadly event, and vigilantes like married couple Luke (Zachary Levi, Chuck) and Joanne (Judith Shekoni, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2) are hunting them down to get vengeance for those they lost. So these evolved beings – or Evos – must remain in hiding, keeping their powers secret for fear of their own safety. Meanwhile, Noah Bennet (Jack Coleman) has also shed his old secret life, but conspiracy theorist Quentin Frady (Henry Zebrowski, A to Z) soon opens his eyes to the fact that there may be more to the Odessa tragedy and an even more sinister plot in the works that threatens all of mankind.

The series also stars Robbie Kay (Once Upon a Time), Gatlin Green (Criminal Minds), Danika Yarosh (Shameless), Kiki Sukezane, (Death Yankee 3), Ryan Guzman (The Boy Next Door), and Rya Kihlstedt (Masters of Sex). And over the course of the season, we will see a lot more familiar faces from the original series pop in for short arcs, including Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka), Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg), Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy), and the Haitian (Jimmy Jean-Louis).

I really enjoyed tonight’s 2-hour premiere. I could have easily marathoned the entire 13 episodes had the screeners been available! While folks who have seen some of the original series will understand some of the characters and events more immediately, the series is also extremely accessible to others who have either never seen Heroes or never completed it. Folks who gave up on the original series should definitely check back in for this sequel. I have high hopes that since it is being billed as a limited series, the show will be more like how the original Heroes was envisioned: telling a complete story within a single season.

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, I had the opportunity to participate in the press room Q&As with the cast and creator of the series. You can find my videos at NoReruns.net.

On tonight’s 2-hour episode, “Brave New World,” in a new world order, people with extraordinary abilities are in hiding and are hunted by those with nefarious motives following a catastrophic terrorist attack in Odessa, Texas.

Check out this fun new “spinoff” tonight on NBC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Grey’s Anatomy, The Player, Married, Review with Forrest MacNeil, and Documentary Now!.

rosewood923smallBones. Castle. They have a lot in common, but the first thing I think of when I compare the two – besides being crime dramas with lots of comedy – is the fact that the two leads are a man and woman with great chemistry. So when I saw the promos for FOX’s new show Rosewood, I knew I’d have to check it out. This Morris Chestnut (Nurse Jackie & The Best Man movies) stars as Dr. Beaumont Rosewood, a brilliant private pathologist in Miami. He’s a little bit like Brennan on Bones in how amazing he is at his job, but he’s much more outgoing and personable than she was/is. Jaina Lee Ortiz (The After) plays Annalise Villa, a new detective for the Miami PD who doesn’t want to like Rosewood but is unable to not be impressed by his abilities. Rosewood’s sister, Pippy (Gabrielle Dennis, The Game), is the “toxicology queen” in his practice, and her fiancée Tara Milly Izikoff, or TMI (Anna Konkle, Man Seeking Woman & Betas) is their DNA specialist.

I’ve seen the pilot, and I have to say that if you love procedurals and shows like Bones and Castle, I think you’ll love this one too. Morris Chestnut is amazingly sexy, and his character is a lot of fun. The chemistry between Rosewood and Villa is great, although they both have some things in their private lives and background (that I won’t spoil) that make a real relationship something I doubt we’ll see right away.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” Dr. Rosewood must team up with Det. Villa in hope of solving a case that hits close to home.

Check out the latest fun crime-solving partners tonight on FOX at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Mysteries of Laura, The Goldbergs, Law & Order: SVU, Modern Family, Worst Cooks in America, & black-ish.

limitless922smallPremiere week continues, and another drama that I’m definitely checking out is CBS’s Limitless. I haven’t seen the movie this is based on, but I’ve heard good things. Brian Finch (Jake McDorman, Manhattan Love Story, Greek) discovers NZT, a drug which boosts brain power by a huge percentage, giving the user extraordinary cognitive abilities. He is found out by FBI Special Agent Rebecca Harris (Jennifer Carpenter, Dexter) and is coerced into helping the FBI solve some of their most complex cases. Working with them is Special Agent Boyle (Hill Harper, CSI: NY), and their boss at the FBI is Nasreen “Naz” Pouran (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Grimm, Hostages). Brian also has a secret relationship with Senator Edward Mora (Bradley Cooper, Alias and the Limitless movie), who is a presidential hopeful and regular user of NZT himself.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” Brian Finch’s life takes an extraordinary turn when he uses a mysterious drug, NZT, that allows him to access his full brain capacity. However, when an NZT-related murder lands Brian on the FBI’s radar, he uses the drug in an attempt to stay ahead of the authorities long enough to clear his name.

Check out this new fast-paced drama tonight on CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing NCIS, The Muppets, NCIS: NOLA, Chopped, & Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris.

minorityreport921smallThere are a ton of great premieres tonight, but one I’m excited for (which, I know, a lot of critics and viewers aren’t…) is the first episode of Minority Report. I was a big fan of the movie, so when I heard about the TV adaptation, I was thrilled and very hopeful. If you aren’t familiar, here’s what you need to know. Years – decades – in the future, there were three children known as “precogs.” An older girl and two younger twin boys, they could see every murder happen within a hundred-mile radius. The program they were involved in with the government was called Precrime. That was the movie.

Fast forward 10 years after the Precrime program was done away with, and the kids were all sequestered away on an island and have all grown up. But Dash (Stark Sands), one of the twins, wanted to use his gift to help prevent those awful crimes. So he moved to Washington D.C., and he teams up with Detective Lara Vega (Meagan Good) on the sly to try once more to instead prevent the crimes that she’s been cleaning up after.

I’ve seen the pilot and really enjoyed it. There’s some fun action, great chemistry between Dash and Det. Vega, and the future-tech is great. So far, the cast is a good mix of fun personalities and characters. Nick Zano stars as Arthur, Dash’s twin brother, while Laura Regan plays Agatha, the third precog. Also starring are Wilmer Valderrama, Li Jun Li, and Zhane Hall.

Kyle got a chance to talk with the cast/creators of Minority Report at this year’s San Diego Comic Con. You can find his video Q&As at NoReruns.net.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” in order to stop crimes before they happen, Det. Lara Vega teams up with a precognitive named Dash, who utilizes his ability to see the future.

Don’t miss the beginning of the future tonight on FOX at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Big Bang Theory, Penn & Teller: Fool Us, Rachael Ray’s Kids Cook-Off, Life in Pieces, Scorpion, NCIS: LA, Blindspot, & Castle.
