Tonight, after three years, Psych returns to USA Network with Psych: The Movie! For eight seasons (and a musical) we followed the adventures of fake psychic detective Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and his slightly more serious best friend Gus (Dulé Hill). As the series ended, it was finally time for Shawn and Gus to go their separate ways. Gus had found his dream job, and Shawn had moved to San Francisco, where girlfriend Juliet (Maggie Lawson) and Chief Vick (Kirsten Nelson) had already relocated. Shawn planned to open up a new detective agency, and to his surprise, Gus had quit his job and also headed to San Francisco. Shawn finally proposed to Juliet, but as he was handing her the ring, someone grabbed it and ran off.

So, what has happened in the three years since we last saw these characters? Did Juliet say yes? Are she and Shawn married? Are Shawn and Gus back to their old psychic detective tricks? Psych is one of my all-time favorite shows. I can re-watch episodes anytime and still laugh out loud. While TV is getting darker and grittier these days, this series was from USA Network’s lighter, blue sky programming era. It was so smartly written, with lots humor and fun pop culture references mixed in. The buddy relationship between Shawn and Gus is what all friendships should be like! I haven’t seen the film yet, so I’m just as excited as all the other Psych-O’s out there to see what this new adventure holds. I’m sure it’s going to be a hilarious, fun ride, and I hope this is just one of many Psych movies to come!

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, I got the opportunity to speak with the cast. They talked about what it was like returning to their characters, and they gave some hints as to what we can expect from tonight’s movie, including some of the amazing guest stars. You can find my videos from the press room at NoReruns.net. (http://www.noreruns.net/2017/08/15/psych-movie-press-room-san-diego-comic-con-2017/)

On tonight’s movie, after three years, the gang reunite when an assailant targets one of their own.

Catch up with Shawn & the gang tonight on USA Network at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Great American Baking Show, The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, Life in Pieces, Gotham, The Orville, Top Chef, Van Helsing, Ghost Wars, and Chrisley Knows Best.

Tonight, Syfy kicks of the new dark comedy Happy!, based on the graphic novel of the same name. The series follows Nick Sax (Christopher Meloni, Law & Order: SVU) a drunk, disgraced ex-super-cop who now works as a hit man for hire. After things go awry with one of his jobs, Nick finds himself the target of various criminal organizations, all of whom want him dead. One of the men looking for Nick is mobster Francisco Scaramucci (Ritchie Coster, Shades of Blue), known as Mr. Blue, who sends his demented henchman Smoothie (Patrick Fischler, Twin Peaks, Once Upon a Time) to capture and torture Sax. Mr. Blue also has leverage on members of the NYPD, including Det. Meredith McCarthy (Lili Mirojnick, Beerfest), who has a mysterious past with Sax. Meanwhile, a little girl named Hailey has been kidnapped, and her mother Amanda (Medina Senghore) is desperately looking for answers. However, Hailey has sent her imaginary friend Happy (Patton Oswalt, The Goldbergs, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), a blue winged horse with a horn, to find Sax to help her. At first Sax thinks Happy is a delusion of his intoxication but soon realizes that this blue horse is “real,” and the two partner up.

Happy! certainly won’t appeal to all audiences, but I suspect those who do enjoy it will love it. You can easily recognize the show’s graphic novel roots by the over-the-top sex, violence, language, blood, and gore. For those not easily offended by these kinds of things, Happy! is a really fun show. Christopher Meloni is great with the deadpan humor, and the series has an interesting underlying story and some unique characters, along with lots of action and humor. Happy’s ever-cheerful attitude and aversion to bad language is a stark contrast to Sax’s foul mouth and gruff, violent, nothing-to-lose demeanor, so the two play well off one another. Tonight’s premiere is worth checking out, with the caveats mentioned above.

On tonight’s premiere, “Saint Nick,” a hit-man is forced to partner with an imaginary blue-winged horse to rescue a missing child.

Meet Happy and Sax tonight on Syfy at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/ recording The Goldbergs, Speechless, Modern Family, American Housewife, Designated Survivor, Survivor, Riverdale, Knightfall, MythBusters, and Mr. Robot.

Poor Dr. Rhodes on Chicago Med. He’s so stressed because of the stuff with Robin at home that things at work are going a bit crazy. Last week, it seemed like he’d made a mistake on a valve transplant, but in the end, it turned out the valve was faulty. It did lead to a great conversation with Dr. Latham, so that was awesome. Meanwhile, Drs. Charles and Reese are still at odds, disagreeing over the way he handled his shooter and the aftermath. It makes things very tense between them constantly.

But the big story lines last week were between April and Dr. Choi as well as Drs. Manning & Halstead. Ethan put April on the spot regarding a test for a long-time patient of hers, which at first looked like it might have done more harm than good. In the end, though, it showed that he had cancer, and it was heartbreaking watching April have to break that news to the man. As for Natalie and Will, their pregnant patient was so fanatical about eating “clean” that she was basically starving her unborn baby. She was 8 months pregnant, but the baby was only measuring 5 months. In the end, to save the mother and baby, they had to deliver the baby, who was small, but they were giving it nutrition to help it grow. It was a touching moment later when Will took Natalie to ride the Ferris wheel after she’d told the pregnant woman that her biggest fear after having her son was heights.

I’m really enjoying this season so far, although I’m already over the fighting between Sarah and Dr. Charles as well as Robin’s health issues.

On tonight’s episode, “Trust Your Gut,” when Goodwin receives financial complaints from the hospital board, she is forced to implement new guidelines that cause headaches for the doctors. Dr. Rhodes and Ava continue to compete in the operating room, while Dr. Charles and Dr. Reese are surprised when they treat a man who has a peculiar theory about his sickness. Dr. Manning and Dr. Choi can’t figure out what is wrong with a young girl, leading them to look to a questionable source for answers.

See what new guidelines Ms. Goodwin is forced to put into play tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Lethal Weapon, Major Crimes, MasterChef Canada, Will & Grace, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, & Chopped.

I was a big fan of Cash Cab back in the day (ya know, way back from 2005-2013. LOL), a game show that took place in a New York taxi minivan. Host Ben Bailey would pick up a fare, and on their drive to their destination, they would play a trivia game in order to win money. Like a lot of trivia game shows, the contestants could seek help – using pedestrians on the street and by calling friends or family. If they got three questions wrong, though, Ben would pull over and drop them off, regardless of how far they were from their destination.

The show is back tonight, along with host Ben Bailey. This season, some passengers will be joined by a guest celebrity who will help the passengers rack up the cash. The celebrity line-up includes Matthew Perry, Brooke Shields, Scott Bakula, Gilbert Gottfried, Dave Foley, Jeff Garlin, & Susie Essman. I can’t wait to find out how they’ve revamped the series and see if the show is as fun as it was before!

On tonight’s episode, “Celebrity Edition: Scott Bakula,” two rowdy brothers from Alabama test their luck in the cab; an unsuspecting couple are headed uptown when their ride is hijacked by celebrity Scott Bakula.

Check out the new season starting tonight on Discovery Channel at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Great Christmas Light Fight, Man With a Plan, Holiday Baking Championship, Superior Donuts, 9JKL, & Christmas Cookie Challenge.

I hope you haven’t let the first eighty-eight episodes of Shameless go unnoticed – I can’t even explain the reaming out you have coming for that, but if you’re mostly up-to-date, you’ll recall last week saw the family mostly getting their shit together whilst flirting with some redneck and racial plot strings. Cause yeah, when Kev and Vee went to meet his family, we saw every single guy in his inbred Kentucky family also dated black women. Vee hid the Confederate slave-owning truth of his family’s history from him, but eventually the truth of his abandonment as a child came out. It was no accident. It was a financial sacrifice. He was stunned and hurt at first but took satisfaction that they all saw him as the one who made something of himself.

Back in Chicago, Francis was still sober and playing up Liam’s role as token minority child at his expensive private school. His refreshed look on life had drawn the attention of a single mom from the school community but not too much has come of it yet. Lip meanwhile finally got laid, getting slapped around the motorcycle shop he works at by the sexy sassy tattooed Eddie. (Yeah, she’s a gal. A total babe, really.) The closest thing to classic Gallagher family psycho white-trash drama we got was Fionna trying to sabotage her ex-fiance Sam’s relationship. That sort of blew up in her face when she told the wrong lady that “her man was still on drugs.” She just laughed it off and drove away though. Can’t wait to see what happens tonight!

On tonight’s episode, “The (Mis)education of Liam Fergus Beircheart Gallagher,” Fiona tries to raise the profile of the neighborhood; Ian helps Trevor raise money for a youth shelter; Carl loses his scholarship; Lip stands up to a friend; Frank teaches parents about the working class.

To see how Ian helps Trevor and Carl loses his scholarship, tune in to Showtime at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching Ghosted, Family Guy, & Star Trek Discovery.
