The last two nights on The Flash and then Arrow, the Arrowverse continuum put out the first two thirds of Elseworlds, which is proving to be a phenomenal crossover trilogy. The annual tradition was pared down this season to feature three main stars rather than a huge ensemble, bringing us to tonight’s conclusion on Supergirl, airing on a special night. Right out of the gate, it was great spin on a mash-up with Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) & Barry Allen (Flash) having somehow been switched in the timeline. Like they had each other’s powers and identities and no one could tell. So they went to Earth-38 to see Kara Danvers, the Girl of Steel, hoping the adjustment to reality was limited to their version of Earth. That turned out to be the case, and Kara was very happy to see them. She happened to be at her family farm when they arrived, so “freaky Friday” Oliver & Barry also got to meet Clark Kent and Lois Lane, who were visiting.

This led to an epic Justice League level of a team up with Superman, Supergirl, The Flash, and Green Arrow squaring off vs a power-absorbing robot named AMAZO. Yes the name sucks, but the episode was great. In the end of that one, Vibes and Killer Frost were very important players, but a clutch shot by Barry (as Green Arrow) stopped the creature. Superman headed back to Earth-38, while the trio of friends moved on to Gotham to follow up a lead on the anomalous energy they had detected that they now associated with the strange mutations in the timelines.

Team Flash was aware of someone trying to come through the Time Force from somewhere/some”when” else, but there was something blocking the traveler. In Gotham, Kara, Oliver, and Barry got themselves into trouble and even got arrested. A woman named Kate Kane bailed them out and called them to Wayne Tower for a meeting. It turned out she was Bruce Wayne’s cousin and wanted to make sure they didn’t cause too much trouble while they were there. Vibes had visions of the Monitor, an interdimensional villain that wielded the power to change reality with a giant metaphysical tome. A vision of the Flash from another timeline came through to give a broken message that suggested they could win if they got “the book” – Monitor’s huge tome. They Vibe that Dr John Deegan in Arhkam Asylum has the book, and so they went there at night.

When Deegan learned he was being attacked, he unlocked all the patients and inmates in Arkham and a free-for-all began. Supergirl versus the crazies is one thing, but thanks to a hallucinogenic drug getting released, we got treated to a great Oliver vs. Barry fight too! Plus, as if this crossover wasn’t that rad already, enter Batwoman, who needed to clean up after the mess these guys were making in her town. We can confirm now that yes, she’s Batman’s cousin, and yes she’s getting her own show!

After the heroes got the book, the Monitor showed up to congratulate them on getting that far. He then returned the book to Deegan and made him reinvent the timeline more creatively a second time. This left Oliver & Barry in a world in which they were villains on the run known as the Trigger Twins. Superman showed up to stop them at the very last minute, which I imagine sets up the action for tonight. Whooo-eeeeeee. Strap in for round three of an exhilarating crossover trilogy that reminds us that these are comic books brought to life!!

On tonight’s episode, “Elseworlds, Part 3,” Supergirl, The Flash, Green Arrow, and Superman (guest star Tyler Hoechlin) engage in the battle of their lives.

To see how the battle ends, tune in to The CW at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching Adam Ruins Everything and Black Lightning.

There’s been a lot of controversy surrounding The Voice since last week’s eliminations, and I am very torn. I love Adam Levine, but what he did during eliminations last week was horrible. When he was supposed to be advocating for DeAndre, he used the time to plead for America to save Reagan because she was sick and didn’t get a chance to perform for herself. This should never have happened, because if a contestant can’t perform, they should be eliminated no matter how much you love them. We shall see going forward how many viewers are lost over this situation, because there is a lot of anger over this.

On tonight’s episode, “Semi-Finals,” the top 8 artists perform live in front of coaches Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton for America’s vote. Plus, the artists team up for competitive mashup duets.

To find out what the judges have to say about this week’s performances, tune in to NBC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching The Neighborhood, Magnum PI, Arrow, and Bull.

Tonight Starz kicks off the second season of Counterpart. The series is an espionage thriller with a sci-fi twist. In the first season, mild-mannered Howard Silk (J.K. Simmons) found himself thrust into a dangerous new world when he learned the truth about the United Nations agency he worked for in Berlin. In 1987, East German scientists had created a door between two parallel Earths, and it is the agency’s responsibility to oversee this crossing point. Up until that point in 1987, the two worlds were exactly the same, but over the 30 years that have passed, they have become much more divergent. In Howard Alpha’s world, his wife is in a coma, but in the Prime world, she is still well – though Emily Prime is involved deeper in the agency and has a strained relationship with her husband. Howard Alpha and his Prime counterpart swap places so that Howard Prime can track down an assassin from his world who made her way into the Alpha world. Meanwhile, we learn that there is some deeper conspiracy going on and a mole inside the agency. By the end of the first season, travel between the worlds is off-limits, and the Howards are stuck living each other’s lives, just as Emily Alpha awakes from her coma.

J.K. Simmons is phenomenal in this series. The two Howards have very different personalities, and it is easy to tell which is which simply by the way they act. However, when the Howards are pretending to be one another, there is this added layer to the performance that is just amazing. I’m looking forward to seeing where the series goes this season, if we’ll get more information on how and why this door was originally built, and what’s really going on with this conspiracy. Also, how much does Emily Alpha knows about all this parallel universe stuff, and was her coma a result of someone trying to silence her?

On tonight’s premiere, “Inside Out,” while hiding in Howard’s life, Howard Prime must avoid detection at home and at the OI; Quayle and Clare struggle to adjust to their new arrangement.

Catch up with Howard and the other Primes and Alphas tonight on Starz at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, The Flash, Doctor Who, and Nightflyers.

Early this morning, Netflix gave its viewers an early holiday treat…more of the hilarious baking competition Nailed It!. This new program, Nailed It! Holiday, has all the fun of the regular series but with holiday-themed tasks. I absolutely loved the first season of this series. Host Nicole Byer is a riot as she jokes around with the contestants and keeps things light. She often breaks the fourth wall, talking to the producer and teasing her more straight-laced co-host, professional chef Jacques Torres. The series pits amateur bakers against one another in a competition to win $10K. They are given far too little time to try to recreate ridiculously intricate desserts and more often than not fail to nail it! But watching them try to do so is so much fun. I can wait to see what new celebrity guest judges and holiday-themed challenges are in store!

Check it out now on Netflix!

I’ll also be watching/recording Fresh Off the Boat and The Cool Kids.

It’s another night of fun cooking shows for me, and first up is the season premiere of The Great American Baking Show on ABC. Last season was scrapped after the season premiere when judge Johnny Iuzzini came under fire for sexual harassment (unrelated to this show). Because of that, we missed out on watching this show last year. So it’s been almost a year now since we last saw it, and now we get to meet a new cast as well as a new host and judge!

Ayesha Curry won’t be back as host. Alongside Anthony “Spice” Adams will be Emma Bunton…otherwise known as Baby Spice in the Spice Girls group. And joining last season’s judge (& judge on The Great British Baking Show!) Paul Hollywood is fabulous pastry chef Sherry Yard, who also judged Halloween Baking Championship. I don’t know if I care about either of hosts – I don’t know them well enough yet to – but I really enjoy both judges, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what they have up their sleeves for the bakers this season.

On tonight’s 2-hour premiere, “Cake and Pastry Week,” it’s on your marks, get set, bake…slices of cake, and sweet and savory pastries.

Meet the contestants and new judge and host tonight on ABC starting at 9/8c.
