If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/12/16

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Jenny’s Choice

blindspot1012smallLast week on Blindspot, the team followed a tattoo to a corrupt Homeland Security employee who has been building video games that turn out to be plans for thieves on how to execute perfect robberies. In the end, the team unraveled the clues like they always do, reunited a mother (a CIA agent) with her daughter, who she thought was dead, but then the woman went to prison for murder and the daughter got sent to live with other family. It all tied in to Jane’s story, as well as Reade’s. Reade is still dealing with the fact that Freddie insinuated that Reade himself was also a victim of their coach, who’d sexually abused boys under his care. And Jane learned that the (supposed) reason Sandstorm is doing what they’re doing is that Shepherd’s family (parents and brother) all died as a result of the contamination of a lake they always went to. You could tell the story affected Jane, but I hope it doesn’t make her waver on whose side she’s on!

No one knows about Weller’s ex-girlfriend’s pregnancy yet, but that is going to have to come up this week, as Allie is back this week, working with the team to catch the bad guys. Eek!

On tonight’s episode, “Condone Untidiest Thefts,” after a prominent politician is almost killed during a rally, Weller and the team must work with U.S. Marshal Allie Knight (guest star Trieste Kelly Dunn) to take down a mob leader.

See if Allie can stay safe tonight on NBC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Goldbergs, Lethal Weapon, Speechless, Criminal Minds, Frequency, Law & Order: SVU, Modern Family, Property Brothers, Worst Cooks in America, black-ish, Chicago PD, Cutthroat Kitchen, & That Awkward Game Show.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/11/16

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Kyle’s Choice

channelzero1011smallTonight, Syfy kicks off the first season of its 6-part horror series, Channel Zero: Candle Cove. In 1988, when Mike Painter was twelve, his twin identical twin brother Eddie was the fifth and final victim in a series of child murders. However, Eddie’s body was never found. Mike (Paul Schneider, Parks and Recreation) is now a child psychologist and has never been back home to Iron Hill, Ohio, since those grisly events. He decides to surprise his widowed mother Marla (Fiona Shaw, Harry Potter, True Blood.) with a visit, but also has an ulterior motive: he wants to investigate the murders. While Mike is having dinner with childhood friends Sheriff Gary Yolen (Shaun Benson, In Just Cause) and his wife Jessica (Nicole Brown, The Strain), Mike sees the couple’s daughter watching static on a television. She tells Mike she was watching Candle Cove, a strange children’s series that was only on the air for two months in 1988, during the period when the murders were committed. Mike starts seeing unusual things, and when a child goes missing, he suspects the gruesome events from his past are happening again – and that this TV show may somehow be connected. The series also stars Luisa D’Oliveira (The 100) as deputy Amy Welch, who is too young to remember the original murders.

This is one eerie show that you probably won’t want to watch alone, especially in the dark! Tonight’s premiere does a great job of both slowly unfolding the events of the past and establishing the strange things that are starting to occur in the present. The story takes some unexpected and really creepy turns in tonight’s premiere, and I can’t wait to see how the rest of the story unfolds – and learn what’s going on with the incredibly disturbing show-within-the-show. Channel Zero is an anthology series, and the first season, titled Candle Cove, will tell a complete story over its 6 episodes. A second season telling a different story is already being planned.

On tonight’s episode, “You Have to Go Inside,” the return of a kids’ TV show from the 1980s coincides with the disappearance of a young person.

Get spooked from the beginning tonight on Syfy at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Middle, American Housewife, Fresh Off the Boat, The Real O’Neals, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., This Is Us, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, New Girl, Scream Queens, The Flash, No Tomorrow, Halt and Catch Fire, Aftermath, and Chrisley Knows Best.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/10/16

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Kyle’s Choice

freakishsmallToday Hulu launches its latest original series Freakish. As the thriller opens, a group of diverse teenagers find themselves at the high school on a Saturday for various reasons – detention, sports, music, computers, etc. When there’s an explosion at the local chemical plant, a mysterious blanketing haze quickly makes its way towards the school, bringing with it a zombie-like disease. The students and limited faculty head for the building’s basement shelter, but there are limited supplies and some of the students get antsy and want to leave to check on their family members. However, they soon discover that a horde of mutant freaks is trying to break into the school to feast on them. Trapped, the students must fight for their survival and hope for someone to come to their rescue before it’s too late.

While most Hulu original series are released week-to-week, all ten episodes of the first season of Freakish are available for streaming today! I’ve seen the first 3 episodes, and it’s great to see they are going with the Netflix model for this series. It’s perfect for binging, as the story plays out like one long film, and you’re going to want to just keep continuing from one episode to the next! There are several twists and turns, and many students seem to have something to hide or seem to know more about what’s going on than they’re originally letting on. My initial reaction to the episodes I watched was that it was The Breakfast Club meets The Walking Dead, but I’m looking forward to seeing where the series goes in the remaining episodes.

Freakish comes from AwesomenessTV, which started as a YouTube channel, and the production company sticks to its roots by casting a lot of YouTube and Vine stars, including Melvin Gregg, Meghan Rienks, Liza Koshy, and Hayes Grier. However, the series also includes more experienced actors, like Leo Howard (Kickin’ It) and Chad L. Coleman (The Walking Dead, Arrow, The Expanse).

Binge watch all ten episodes of this fun new series now on Hulu.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, Timeless, Gotham, Lucifer, and Supergirl.
