If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/22/15

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Kyle’s Choice

thelionguardsmallTonight, the Disney Channel is airing an all-new animated special set in the world of The Lion King. The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar is the one-hour preview for a new animated series coming to Disney in January. Simba (Rob Lowe The Grinder) and Nala’s (Gabrielle Union, Being Mary Jane) cub Kion (Max Charles, The Strain) is growing up and wants to prove that he’s ready to follow in his father’s footsteps. The Lion Guard has been protecting the Pride Lands for ages and has always been comprised solely of lions. However, now that he is the leader of the group, Kion wants to assemble a more diverse group of animal friends, each with his or her own talents, to protect their home land from hyena Janja (Andrew Kishino) and his sidekicks, Cheezi (Vargus Mason) and Chungu (Kevin Schon).

The new Lion Guard consists of cheetah Fuli (Diamond White, Haunted Hathaways) who brings her speed, hippopotamus Beshte (Dusan Brown, About a Boy) who brings his strength, cattle egret Ono (Atticus Shaffer, The Middle) who brings his excellent sight, and honey badger Bunga (Joshua Rush) who brings his bravery. Some other familiar faces will also return – Kion’s sister Kiara (Eden Riegel, Youthful Daze), wisecracking meercat Timon (Kevin Schon) & warthog Pumbaa (Ernie Sabella), baboon Rafiki (Khary Payton, Teen Titans Go!), red-billed hornbill Zazu (Jeff Bennett), and the ghost of Mufasa (James Earl Jones). The cast of characters also includes Kiara’s lioness cub friends Tiifu (Sarah Hyland, Modern Family) and Zuri (Madison Pettis, The Fosters), and Janja’s minion vulture Mzingo (Jonny Rees, Hawaii Five-0).

While I never watched Disney’s previous Timon and Pumbaa animated spin-off series, I am really looking forward to checking out this new spin-off. I was a big fan of the original Lion King movie, and watching the trailer for tonight’s special, I was quickly reminded of why. It looks like this new show recaptures the humor, drama, and action that made that film franchise so great.

See if this new show will take you back to your childhood tonight on Disney Channel at 7/6c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Madam Secretary, The Good Wife, The Simpsons, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Family Guy, The Last Man on Earth, The Librarians, The Walking Dead, Into the Badlands, and Getting On.

Saturday on TV – 11/21/15

Saturday is the series premiere of Demons in the City of Angels on Reelz at 9/8c. For many, Los Angeles provides a dazzling dreamscape built on the hopes and dreams of those who risked everything to take their shot in show business. But demons also dwell in the City of Angels and lurking beneath the glitz and glamour are cold-blooded killers, brutal murders and shocking crime scenes. Demons in the City of Angels presents the tragic crimes that darkened the streets of L.A. and through emotional interviews and stylized re-creations, each one-hour episode takes viewers through the twists and turns of murder investigations that stunned the entertainment world.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Tiny House World on FYI at 10/9c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 10:30/9:30c. Each episode features a prospective homeowner looking to find the ideal mini-dream home in locations as diverse as Paris, France, Sydney, Australia, and Dublin, Ireland. With three homes to choose from, buyers will find that picking the perfect small space, that best fits their budget and desires, is no easy feat — even in the most exotic and exciting locations. Small in stature, the homes are often big on ingenuity and design. Still, the challenges of finding the perfect home abroad loom as large as any real estate hunt in the U.S. Viewers will see how the trend of tiny living has taken shape in other areas of the world and learn how different cultures approach design difficulties, space limitations and more.

Tonight is also a new episode of Saturday Night Live on NBC at 11:29/10:29c, with host Matthew McConaughey and musical guest Adele.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/20/15

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Kyle’s Choice

theknick1120smallMy pick of the night is once again The Knick, as it’s one of the few Friday shows I actually make sure I watch on Friday night. Last week, an explosion at the subway line construction site caused a flood of emergency patients at The Knick. Cleary saw this as a money-making opportunity and paid off the other ambulance drivers a fraction of their fee in cash in exchange for the money owed to them by the hospital. However, his industrious plan backfired when the president of The Knick declared that no money would be made off the devastating accident. Meanwhile, Thackary performed open brain surgery on his addict patient, trying to cure him of his addictions, but ended up leaving the man a vegetable. Barrow finally paid off his debt to Ping Wu but made plans to “free” one of Ping Wu’s girls and set her up in a new apartment. Lucy was inspired by something one of the prostitutes said to her and used this to manipulate a new man she was interested in. Bertie was denied permission to research a cancer treatment that might help his mother, but his day got better when he brought Genevieve home for a family dinner, and they all fell in love with her. And Harriet quickly became a pariah at the boardinghouse, with the nuns promising punishment to anyone who even spoke to her.

I just thoroughly enjoy this show each week. There’s so many different storylines going on, but they are all interesting. With Doctor Thackary, we also get a bit of a MacGyver thing going on each week – like last week when we saw him make a makeshift metal detector out of a lamp in order to locate shrapnel in a victim’s body. And it’s always amazing to see these barbaric medical procedures that were considered to be at the forefront of medicine at the time. The show is also delving into some dark, controversial topics like eugenics, with Dr. Gallinger getting the proprietor of the “Idiot House” to steralize all the boys so they couldn’t produce more morons.

Last week, we saw just how bad off Bertie’s mother is. Will Bertie and/or Genevieve be able to convince someone at Mt. Sinai to let him research a cure? What crazy (and gory) medical procedure will we see Thackary perform next? I can’t wait to find out…and see what’s going to happen with the rest of the characters!

On tonight’s episode, “There are Rules,” Bertie is faced with a quandary at Mt. Sinai, which leads to him take matters into his own hands and enlist help from Algernon; Thackery considers using hypnosis, while taking an interest in conjoined twins. Later, Lucy lobbies Henry for an invite to a gala; Cornelia visits the brother of a deceased immigrant who had ties to Speight; Gallinger has an unwelcome dinner guest; Barrow checks out a new home for Junia; and Harriet agrees to make some changes.

Check out the medical fun tonight on Cinemax at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Amazing Race, Undateable, Truth Be Told, Grimm, MasterChef: Junior, and Z Nation.
