The return of The Walking Dead is still six weeks away, but to help fill the zombie void, tonight AMC kicks off the new prequel/spin-off series, Fear the Walking Dead. In the original series, we were thrown right into the thick of the zombie apocalypse as Rick Grimes awoke from his coma, but we never got to see what the original outbreak was like. This new series takes a look at how those events unfolded, through the eyes of a whole new group of survivors in Los Angeles.
The cast of characters includes divorced high school English teacher Travis Manawa (Cliff Curtis, Gang Related), his free-spirited ex-wife Liza (Elizabeth Rodriguez, Orange is the New Black), and their son Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2), as well as Travis’s fiancee Madison Clark (Kim Dickens, House of Cards) and her two kids — the highly-ambitious Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey, The 100) and college drop-out Nick (Frank Dillane, Sense8), who also has a drug problem. Joining them are immigrant barber Daniel Salazar (Rubén Blades, Gideon’s Crossing), his devoutly-religious wife Griselda (Patricia Reyes SpÃndola, The Color of Passion), and their first-generation American daughter Ofelia (Mercedes Mason, 666 Park Avenue).
I’m really looking forward to seeing what the initial stages of the apocalypse are like, the panic and mayhem that ensues, and how a very different group comes together and figures out how to survive.
On tonight’s 90-minute premiere, “Pilot,” a dysfunctional blended family is forced together when they realize a reported virus is actually the start of the zombie apocalypse.

Saturday is the season finale of Aquarius on NBC at 9/8c.
Tonight is also the series premiere of Blunt Talk on Starz at 9/8c. Set in Los Angeles, the story follows Walter Blunt, a British import intent on conquering the world of American cable news and the fallout from his well-intentioned, but mostly misguided decision-making, both on and off the air. Through the platform of his nightly cable news show, Blunt is on a mission to impart his wisdom and guidance on how Americans should live, think and behave. Besieged by network bosses, a dysfunctional news staff, numerous ex-wives and children of all ages, Blunt’s only support is the heavy-drinking, devoted manservant he transplanted from the U.K. to join him in Los Angeles. The cast is led by Patrick Stewart (Star Trek) in the role of Walter Blunt, Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook) as Rosalie, Blunt’s tough and motherly producer-manager, and Adrian Scarborough (The King’s Speech) as Harry, Blunt’s manservant. Dolly Wells (Doll & Em) who was cast as Celia, Blunt’s senior producer and head writer, with Timm Sharp (Enlightened) who was cast as Jim, Blunt’s head writer, round out the cast.
Finally, tonight is the season premieres of Ghost Adventures on Travel Channel at 9/8c & Survivor’s Remorse on Starz at 9:30/8:30c, as well as the season premiere of The Half Hour on Comedy Central at 12AM/11PMc, followed by a 2nd new episode at 12:30AM/11:30PMc.
