If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/1/15

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Kyle’s Choice

unreal61smallTonight, Lifetime premieres its new scripted series UnREAL, which follows the behind-the-scenes drama of a fictitious Bachelor-like reality show called Everlasting, where a group of woman compete to win the heart of handsome, rich Brit Adam Cromwell (Freddie Stroma, Pitch Perfect). The series stars Shiri Appleby (Roswell, Life Unexpected) as Rachel Goldberg, a young producer who had a meltdown the prior season, but her amazing ability to manipulate the contestants has series creator Chet (Craig Bierko, Cinderella Man) welcoming her back. And to make things more awkward for her, Rachel’s ex, Jeremy (Josh Kelly, One Life to Live), is a cameraman for the show, and his new fiancée is on-set makeup artist Lizzie (Siobhan Williams, Black Box). The executive producer of Everlasting, Quinn King (Constance Zimmer, Entourage), is ruthless and demands that her staff does anything and everything to create drama, make the contestants fill their assigned character roles and build the show’s narrative.

I’ve seen the first three episodes, and I would have watched more had they been available — I was instantly fascinated, entertained, and completely sucked in. I have never seen an episode of The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, but I’ve seen enough reality TV to be able to really relate to what’s going on. UnREAL is a very dark, shocking series — it is absolutely despicable some of the things these producers do to manipulate the contestants and build the desired narrative! The show will have you questioning just how real the drama is on your favorite “reality” shows and wondering what is really going on just outside of the camera’s view. I highly recommend checking this show out tonight.

On tonight’s premiere, “Return,” a producer, Rachel Goldberg, works to manipulate relationships on a dating show in order to film outrageous footage as the series begins.

Don’t miss the fun premiere tonight on Lifetime at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Whispers, The Island, Turn, and Devious Maids.

If We Controlled Your Remote… – 5/31/15

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Kyle’s Choice

golan531smallTonight, one of the animated comedies from FOX’s Animation Domination High-Def block, Golan the Insatiable, graduates to primetime. The series has been completely revamped and rebooted for its second season — it has been expanded to a half hour, has an all-new voice cast, and some of the character dynamics have completely changed.

The series follows the adventures of goth-girl Dylan Beekler (Aubrey Plaza), who dreads her life with her single mother Carole (Maria Bamford) and older sister Alexis (Rachel Butera) in the suburban town of Oak Grove, Minnesota. Dylan doesn’t fit in and is constantly the target of the mean girls at school. However, one day when she finds a mysterious old book in the basement of her mother’s office and summons the monstrous demigod warlord Golan the Insatiable (Rob Riggle) to Earth. Golan tries to make the best of his new situation by causing general havoc (which Dylan is more than happy to participate in). At the same time, he often finds himself confused by Earth’s customs and mundane suburban life.

I had never watched the short 6-episode first season of the series, but after seeing tonight’s episode, I’m going to have to check them out. Tonight’s primetime reboot had me laughing out loud throughout the premiere episode — the writing is so witty and fun! Just a warning to parents that at times, it does get a little on the crude side, as Golan discusses his insatiable nature. Aubrey Plaza is perfectly cast as Dylan — the dark, sarcastic little girl feels so much like her character from Parks and Recreation — and Rob Riggle is also a delight as Golan. This series makes a great addition to the Sunday animated lineup — even if it is the only show currently airing new episodes.

On tonight’s premiere, “Pilot,” a warlord from another dimension becomes trapped in a small town in Minnesota, where he joins forces with a morbid little girl named Dylan in a fight against the boredom of life in the suburbs.

Join the fight against boredom tonight on FOX at 9:30/8:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording American Odyssey, Halt and Catch Fire, Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley, Veep, Nurse Jackie, and Penny Dreadful.
