Dexter: The Complete Series + Dexter: New Blood DVD Review

Showtime recently released Dexter: The Complete Series + Dexter: New Blood on both DVD & Blu-ray. The original series spanned eight seasons, ending in 2013. Fans were not happy with the way the series ended, which was why so many fans were thrilled when they announced that Dexter: New Blood would pick up ten years later. It was by far a perfect reboot, but in the end, most fans figured it was at least a more fitting end to the show. The

The 36-disc set features all eight seasons of the original series and the sole season of the reboot, a total of 106 episodes, plus over 3 hours of special features. For the original series, you’ll find audio commentaries by the cast and crew, cast interviews, special featurettes, & more. For New Blood, you’ll be able to watch: “Why Now?”; “Dissecting Dexter: New Blood: Deb is Back”; Dissecting Dexter: New Blood: The Kill Room; All Out on the Table; & more!

The audio and video quality are what you’d expect for DVD. Better than streaming, not as good as Blu-ray, and if you’re a fan of the show, it’s certainly well worth the money to get both the original and the reboot all together in one HUGE box set. Plus, the cover art is pretty sweet, combining the old Dexter with the new.

The Twilight Zone: The Complete Series 2022 DVD Review

Enter another dimension with Jordan Peele and Simon Kinberg’s modern reimagining of the classic TV series. Hosted by Academy Award and Emmy Award winner Jordan Peele and featuring an all-star cast, this complete anthology series box set will take you on a mind-bending voyage filled with endless possibilities. Experience all 20 episodes of contemporary storytelling and journey behind the scenes with exclusive special features, including featurettes, deleted scenes, gag reels, and more!

For being only 20 episodes, the 2-season series comes on a total of 7 discs, which seems CRAZY to me. That leaves plenty of space for all the episodes plus a good number of extras. The picture quality is pretty good for DVD, but of course that isn’t nearly as good as Blu-ray, which you can also get both seasons of the show on. On the other hand, the audio is great, immersing you in the series.

The extras include 3 episode commentaries, episodic promos, & deleted/extended scenes on select episodes. If you don’t know what easter eggs are, they are secrets, tricks, and jokes hidden within the show (or movie, music, video game, etc. Usually hard to spot, they might reveal a new detail or clues about the story, or simply pay homage to an inspiration that the creators loved. Those who like easter eggs will enjoy the nearly three minutes of them that are hidden throughout the season and hint back to the original series.

Star Trek: Picard Season 2 Blu-ray Review

Star Trek: Picard Season Two is a mix of good and bad when it comes to the Blu-ray that was recently released. Included in the three-disc collection are all ten episodes plus a boatload of extras. Oddly enough, even though Disc 2 shows extras, there are none on there, so don’t be surprised!

The Blu-ray release cover artwork is a little boring — pretty blue space background with photos of (almost all) the cast all put on in a big group. But more worrisome is the discs are rather precariously perched on two spindles inside the casing, with Disc 1 on the inside cover but Discs 2 and 3 stacked together on one spindle. This to me is a little dangerous and might easily be prone to scratching.

Overall, the video quality is great, especially compared to streaming, and the audio quality is beautiful. But really, it’s all the special features and extras that are the big draw here, especially for those who have already seen the season.
