freakishsmallToday Hulu launches its latest original series Freakish. As the thriller opens, a group of diverse teenagers find themselves at the high school on a Saturday for various reasons – detention, sports, music, computers, etc. When there’s an explosion at the local chemical plant, a mysterious blanketing haze quickly makes its way towards the school, bringing with it a zombie-like disease. The students and limited faculty head for the building’s basement shelter, but there are limited supplies and some of the students get antsy and want to leave to check on their family members. However, they soon discover that a horde of mutant freaks is trying to break into the school to feast on them. Trapped, the students must fight for their survival and hope for someone to come to their rescue before it’s too late.

While most Hulu original series are released week-to-week, all ten episodes of the first season of Freakish are available for streaming today! I’ve seen the first 3 episodes, and it’s great to see they are going with the Netflix model for this series. It’s perfect for binging, as the story plays out like one long film, and you’re going to want to just keep continuing from one episode to the next! There are several twists and turns, and many students seem to have something to hide or seem to know more about what’s going on than they’re originally letting on. My initial reaction to the episodes I watched was that it was The Breakfast Club meets The Walking Dead, but I’m looking forward to seeing where the series goes in the remaining episodes.

Freakish comes from AwesomenessTV, which started as a YouTube channel, and the production company sticks to its roots by casting a lot of YouTube and Vine stars, including Melvin Gregg, Meghan Rienks, Liza Koshy, and Hayes Grier. However, the series also includes more experienced actors, like Leo Howard (Kickin’ It) and Chad L. Coleman (The Walking Dead, Arrow, The Expanse).

Binge watch all ten episodes of this fun new series now on Hulu.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, Timeless, Gotham, Lucifer, and Supergirl.

2brokegirls1112smallLast season on 2 Broke Girls, Sophie and Oleg finally tied the knot in a fun, crazy, and over-the-top wedding. Max and Caroline were bridesmaids in dresses that weren’t nearly as horrible as expected, Oleg rode Chestnut into the church, and Earl walked Sophie down the aisle, only to disappear under Sophie’s huge dress. After having problems with the cupcake business all season long, Max and Caroline decided to give it more of a go. So this season should focus back more on the girls and their cupcake business, as well as their friends at the diner. I’m so glad it’s back tonight.

On tonight’s episode, “And the Wrecking Ball,” Max and Caroline team up with the diner staff in a frantic attempt to keep their businesses open when the city targets Han’s diner and their cupcake window for destruction. Also, Sophie and Oleg announce that they are trying to have a baby.

See if the gang can keep their businesses open tonight on CBS at 9:30/8:30c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Big Bang Theory, Bones, Chopped, Life in Pieces, Man vs Child: Chef Showdown, & Beat Bobby Flay.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/27/14

It was an incredibly hectic weekend in my house, and I have a feeling with Halloween on Friday, we aren’t going to see this week showing signs of slowing down. I’m looking forward to relaxing with some great television and invite you to do the same—let’s see what we’re recommending.

2brokegirls1027smallTonight is the season premiere of 2 Broke Girls, and while this show often attracts mixed reviews for its offside humor, I personally enjoy this show immensely. There’s something very amusing about Caroline and Max together that makes hilarious magic on my TV screen. The problem with the show is that the episodes kind of went downhill a bit for the finale, but we did at least get to see Max get her GED and her diploma. I also enjoyed seeing the diner gang come support Max at her graduation, but I would like to see more character growth for everyone this season. Despite a few story hiccups, I am looking forward to a new season, and regardless, I’m going to find it funny, because I always do.

On tonight’s premiere, “And the Reality Problem,” a television producer approaches Max and Caroline about shooting an episode of a Kardashians’ reality show at their cupcake window.

To see how Max handles Caroline freaking out about this, tune in to CBS at 8/7c.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/5/14

Ahh, Monday. Welcome, my old…friend. I was sad to see the weekend go, because it consisted of a lot of relaxing, some TV watching, and spending time with the family, all of which were great. So I hate that the work/school week is starting up again today, but I’m happy, too, since it means some great TV. Check out what we’re recommending tonight. 🙂

castle55smallLast week’s Castle certainly got mixed reviews from the critics. Some thought it was boring—a filler episode that made Castle look kind of stupid for concentrating so hard on the Scrabble game and not on being intimate with Beckett. Personally, I enjoyed it. The case was…okay. Nothing spectacular about it, but there were some interesting aspects. I liked recovering the video to show what happened in the past. But to me, probably my favorite part was the end, when Beckett proposed strip poker. They were both adorable.

Tonight’s episode should be HUGE, since we’re returning to the story line of Beckett’s mother’s murder. Will we get any resolution before next week’s finale? Will they bring Senator Bracken down? If they do, tonight’s the night to do it!

On tonight’s episode, “Veritas,” a secret investigation conducted by Beckett related to her mother’s murder goes awry when a man she has been surveilling is killed. When evidence links Beckett to the victim, she and Castle become the targets of a manhunt that puts both of them in grave danger.

Find out if Beckett and bring down her mother’s killer tonight on ABC at 10:01/9:01c.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 4/14/14

It’s the start of another week, but thank goodness it’s a short week, with Easter at the end of the tunnel. Let’s see we’re recommending tonight to help us unwind after another manic Monday.

bones414smallBones has been having a really strong season, but I’m also really loving the move to Mondays. The character development has been great, especially when it concerns relationship growth for Booth and Bones. Last week’s episode brought up quite a controversial issue about marijuana used for medical reasons, with the victim of the week being a woman who was suffering from MS and worked at a dispensary. The issues were intensified when Wendell came back to work and admitted that he was using cannabis to help with the side effects from the cancer treatments. Cam fired him because, even if it is legal in DC, the Jeffersonian is federally sanctioned, and on a federal level, marijuana is illegal. This caused a rift in the team, but in the end, Booth helped Wendell get a job back at the Jeffersonian as a consultant, because that makes it out of federal jurisdiction. I loved how this subject was handled and how the team eventually came around and helped each other.

On tonight’s episode, “The Cold in the Case,” the team investigates the death of a woman who is cryogenically frozen; Cam is hesitant about meeting Arastoo’s parents; Booth is up for a promotion. Shohreh Aghdashloo (Grimm, 24) guest stars.

To see what kind of promotion our favorite FBI agent is up for, tune in to FOX at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching The Voice, Mom, Star-Crossed, The Following, & Rick & Morty.
