cristela327smallMy favorite new comedy this season has been ABC’s Cristela. It’s just so cute and sweet and funny. Last week was more of the same. Natalia (or Ama), Cristela’s mother, decided the whole family was going to a friend’s granddaughter’s quinceanera, and she basically ordered Cristela to invite “Josh from work” as her date because her daughter dating a white man would look good to everyone. Cristela balked at first but eventually gave in after Ama showed up at her work and invited Josh herself for Cristela. While at the party, Cristela refused to dance, and through a conversation with Daniela, we learned that she thought she wasn’t good enough for someone like Josh, that a man like him wouldn’t like her. In the end, he convinced her he wanted to dance with her, so they did. It was very sweet…and I loved Cristela’s jealousy at the attention a pretty woman paid to Josh (who was actually a little oblivious. LOL).

I’m a big Cristela/Josh shipper, but I’m glad they aren’t rushing them into a relationship. Hopefully that’s where they’re planning to take the pair, but if they aren’t, that’s where my imagination comes in. 😉 Tonight is a double episode, so I’m excited to get twice the fun!

On tonight’s first episode, “Latino 101,” Trent picks Cristela to sit at his table for the trial of a landlord accused of not renting to minorities. But his reason for doing so — to show a minority on the landlord’s side — backfires on him, and Cristela must decide whether to use an advantage she did not earn through hard work. Meanwhile, as Alberto starts bonding with Natalia, Daniela becomes suspicious that perhaps he’s “using Ama to get in good with Cristela.” Then on the second new episode, “Great Expectations,” when tasked by Trent to motivate Maddie’s work ethic, Cristela has to think fast to come up with creative ways to convince Maddie to get through their shared workload. Meanwhile back at home, Daniela is on a work trip as Felix finds himself alone and taking care of the kids.

Laugh along with me tonight on ABC at 8/7c & 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Grimm & Bride By Design.

bones326smallIt’s been way too long—three and a half months!—since we last had a new episode of Bones, but thankfully, it’s back tonight with the first of a string of new episodes. If I’m not mistaken, we’ll get new episodes for the rest of the season… Yay! The last time we saw the gang, it was the 200th episode, so things were a bit different and didn’t follow along with any current story line. But here are the highlights for the season: Booth is out of prison, Sweets is dead and Daisy had his baby, James Aubrey is Booth’s new partner at the FBI, and Wendell beat his cancer. It’s been a busy season—both fun and exciting and very sad—but the rest of the episodes this year look to be even more exciting, so strap in! I’ve seen tonight’s episode plus the next two weeks, and I know just how good they are! 🙂

On tonight’s episode, “The Psychic in the Soup,” Angela’s psychic friend, Avalon Harmonia, aids the Jeffersonian team on a venture into the world of fortune tellers following the discovery of a local psychic’s decomposing body in a tree trunk, which leads to the victim’s friends becoming suspects. Cyndi Lauper guest stars.

Find out who killed the “psychic” tonight on FOX at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Backstrom, Chopped Canada, & Beat Bobby Flay.

cristela320smallI’m so scared because TV Line has Cristela on their “bubble show” list. I’ve loved this comedy since episode one. Cristela is great, the supporting cast is fantastic, and I love the balance between her work and her home life. Last week’s episode was a good example of that. It was Henry’s confirmation at church, and he picked Cristela to be his sponsor. But when it came time for the confirmation, Cristela was supposed to be working, helping her boss, Mr. Culpepper, at a press conference to show that he wasn’t the racist he seemed to be on a video he’d accidentally been captured on when his daughter, Maddie, was vlogging at work. She almost missed the confirmation but realized at the last minute that family was more important. She ran all the way to the church and made it just in time. At work the next day, Mr. Culpepper said he was disappointed, but really, I think we can all tell he admires her, even though they aren’t necessarily the choices he would make. That’s part of what I love about the show.

On tonight’s episode, “Fifteen-Something,” when Juanita Canales invites the family to her granddaughter’s quinceañera, Natalia wants to show off and use different aspects of the family to impress everybody. This culminates in her pushing Cristela to bring Josh from work as her date, and Cristela has the first dance she never had when she turned fifteen.

To see if Cristela and Josh have the moment all the shippers are hoping for, tune in to ABC at 8:31/7:31c.

americancrimesmallI really enjoyed ABC’s new series American Crime when I first saw the pilot last summer and have been anxiously waiting for it to air. Rewatching the series premiere last week, I was quickly reminded why. In the opener, divorced couple Russell and Barbara learn that their son has been killed and his wife raped during a robbery at their home. Barbara quickly put herself in the spotlight, contacting a reporter to tell her story. Meanwhile, the police followed a lead that a Hispanic male was seen leaving the scene—and arrested Tony Gutierrez, who couldn’t have been more cooperative and seemingly innocent. Meanwhile, Russ learned that his perfect son was actually a drug dealer, and that was likely what lead to his death.

This series is very thought-provoking and shows how people’s biases and stereotypes can be completely wrong and that drug addicts and dealers come in all shapes and sizes. When young, blonde, white Aubry is battered and beaten, the police immediately ask her if it was her black boyfriend, Carter, who did this to her. Barb has also proven herself to be quite racist and predjudiced, so I’m really looking forward to seeing how she reacts when the truth about her son comes out and what she does when she confronts her son’s killers. I’m also interested to see if Tony will be a victim of circumstances and profiling—he certainly doesn’t seem like he would last a day in prison—or if will he be cleared and set free.

This show has a great cast giving some stellar performances, and I’m looking forward to seeing how all the drama unfolds.

On tonight’s episode, “Episode Two,” Barb and Russ face Carter and Aubry, who are reunited for the first time since being arrested more than a day ago. Meanwhile, a terrified Tony lands in juvenile detention, testing the resolve of his father, Alonzo; investigators find an existing warrant for Hector’s arrest in Mexico; and emerging facts about Matt and Gwen strain the relationship between their parents.

Learn what facts come out about Matt and Gwen tonight on ABC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, The Odd Couple, Grey’s Anatomy, The Blacklist, The Slap, Archer, Dig, and Wizard Wars.

DIG -- Pictured: (l-r) -- (Photo by: Ronen Akerman/USA Network)Tonight, the epic 10-episode limited-series DIG premieres on USA Network, which has been described as Indiana Jones meets The Da Vinici Code. Peter Connelly (Jason Isaacs, Awake) is an American legal attaché (aka FBI Agent) working in Israel, who uses his casual relationship with boss Lynn Monahan (Anne Heche, Save Me) as a way to mask the pain of his personal life. When a young American archaeologist is murdered in Jerusalem, Lynn is under pressure from U.S. Ambassador Ruth Ridell (Regina Taylor, The Unit) to close the case as quickly as possible. However, Peter finds himself butting heads with Israeli National Police detective Golan Cohen (Ori Pfeffer, World War Z), who is doing his own investigation.

Peter becomes obsessed with the case, getting a bit too emotionally involved since the victim reminds him of someone he lost. But as he delves deeper into his investigation, Peter uncovers a much larger, centuries-old conspiracy that threatens to change the course of human history and life as we know it. Meanwhile, there are two other parallel stories happening in other parts of the world—one involving a religious cult and the other an ancient religious prophecy, both of which will ultimately tie into the answers Peter is looking for.

DIG comes from executive producers Tim Kring (Heroes, Touch) and Gideon Raff (Homeland) and is the perfect blend of these two men’s story-telling styles. Kring once again employs his technique of weaving together seemingly disconnected stories that will ultimately converge over the course of the series. And Raff’s contribution can be seen in the show’s internationally-set political and religious intrigue. The series’ amazing cast also includes Alison Sudol (Transparent), David Costabile (Breaking Bad), Richard E. Grant (Downton Abbey), Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under), and Omar Metwally (Non-Stop).

I’ve really enjoyed the first three episodes. The series looks beautiful and is suspenseful and action-packed. I look forward to discovering more about this underlying mystery and seeing how the three different stories all come together.

I recently had a chance to speak with executive producer Tim Kring about the series. You can find this at NoReruns.net.

On tonight’s extended-length premiere, “Pilot,” while investigating the murder of a young American woman in Jerusalem, an FBI agent stationed there discovers an ancient international conspiracy that threatens to change the entire course of human history, and he must unravel the mystery.

Catch the start of this new show tonight on USA Network at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, The Odd Couple, Grey’s Anatomy, American Crime, The Slap, The Blacklist, Allegiance, Archer, and Wizard Wars.
