thunderbirdssmallToday, Amazon is giving viewers a sneak peek at the 1-hour premiere of its latest original animated series, Thunderbirds Are Go, which is a reboot of Gerry Anderson’s classic 1965 sci-fi series Thunderbirds, except there are no puppets this time around. The show is set in 2060 and follows the adventures of the five Tracy brothers (Scott, John, Virgil, Gordon, and Alan), who run the life-saving International Rescue organization from their hidden headquarters on Tracy Island in the Pacific Ocean. Each brother is in charge of a different high-tech “Thunderbird” rescue vehicle – Thunderbird 1 is a first-response rocket plane; Thunderbird 2 is a supersonic-carrier aircraft with detachable pods to carry people or equipment; Thunderbird 3 is a space-rescue rocket; Thunderbird 4 is an underwater-search-and-rescue mini-submarine; and Thunderbird 5 is a space-communications satellite. Helping the Tracys out on their missions are the boys’ grandmother, covert ops specialist/head of security Kayo, engineer Brains and his robot pal MAX, and London socialite/secret agent Lady Penelope (Rosamund Pike, Gone Girl) and her chauffeur Parker, who drives a pink limo called FAB 1 that has been suped-up with all kinds of gadgets and gizmos.

While this new series is animated, it does pay homage its predecessor by mixing CGI animation with live-action model sets, which gives the series a fun, unique look. While Amazon says the series is aimed at children aged 6 through 11, I think people of all ages can enjoy this action-packed series. Today Amazon is giving viewers a sneak peek of the 1-hour premiere, “Ring of Fire Parts 1 & 2,” and next Friday they will release all 13 episodes of what they are calling the first season. (Abroad, the series has already aired one season of 26 episodes, is in production on a second, and a third has already been greenlighted. Amazon will be airing at least the first 2 26-episode seasons, likely released in 4 batches of 13-episodes.)

I have seen tonight’s 1-hour premiere, and it has the tough duty of setting up this entire world and introducing all of the characters as well as the show’s big villain. While it moves quite quickly, I found it very enjoyable to watch. It has a nice blend of action and humor with a touch of mystery. The animation looks really cool, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of the episodic missions and catastrophes the group must deal with in future installments.

On today’s sneak peek, “Ring Of Fire, Parts 1 and 2,” it’s a typical busy day for International Rescue, but a powerful underwater seaquake turns it into a perilous one.

Today’s preview started on Amazon at 3:01AM/2:01AMc earlier this morning.

I’ll also be watching/recording Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, The Amazing Race, Grimm, Wynonna Earp, Childrens Hospital, and Banshee.

boschsmallI’m a huge reader, and one of my favorite authors/series is Michael Connelly and his Harry Bosch series. So when the news first came out about it becoming a TV series on Amazon, I was over the moon. Thankfully, I was very, very happy with the first season last year. I LOVE Titus Welliver as Bosch. The writers and Welliver himself really capture the character from the book. It’s a slow-moving series – what real action there happens to be is pretty quickly resolved – but for me, that didn’t mean boring. There’s a lot to think about during the show, a lot of emotion and drama. I was incredibly happy when I learned of the renewal for season 2, which premieres late tonight/early tomorrow morning on Amazon at 3AM/2AMc.

The first season combined stories from two of the books, focusing on the remains of a missing boy and a trial for Bosch over the fatal shooting of a murder suspect. The second season picks up where season one left off and plays off the book Trunk Music. A dead body found in the trunk of a car on Mulholland Drive appears to have mob connections and leads LAPD homicide detective Harry Bosch down a dangerous trail of corruption and collusion that stretches to Las Vegas and back. As the case becomes more complex and personal, and Bosch’s search for the truth more relentless, the dark side of the police department is brought to light.

Check out season 2 Thursday night/Friday morning on Amazon at 3:01AM/2:01AMc.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Big Bang Theory, Top Chef, 2 Broke Girls, Colony, & Recipe for Deception.

boschsmallSomething you may or may not know about me is that as much as I love watching TV, I’m also a huge reader—I always have been. My favorites are mysteries & books where the main character(s) is/are cops & the like. (I know. Surprise, surprise!) As such, of course I’ve read the Harry Bosch books by Michael Connelly. My husband & I are both huge fans of that series. So when we learned over a year ago (jeez. A YEAR!) that, after many instances of speculation and stops and starts, it was FINALLY being made into a series, we couldn’t help but be thrilled. And now, a year after the pilot was released on Amazon, it’s FINALLY here.

Bosch stars Titus Welliver (Sons of Anarchy, Argo) as Harry Bosch, Jamie Hector (The Wire) as Jerry Edgar, Amy Aquino (Being Human) as Lt. Grace Billets, Lance Reddick (Fringe, The Wire) as Deputy Chief Irvin Irving, and Annie Wersching (24, Extant) as Julia Brasher, with Sarah Clarke (24) as Eleanor Wish and Jason Gedrick (Luck) as Raynard Waits. The series follows Bosch, an LAPD homicide detective, as he pursues the killer of a 13-year-old boy while standing trial in federal court on accusations that he murdered a suspected killer in cold blood. Bosch is ultimately a good guy, a great cop who may skirt the edge of the law on occasion when he believes it’s called for…but definitely someone I love and root for.

The pilot went live last year, but tonight, the rest of the first season, episodes two through twelve, will stream on Amazon at 12:01AM/11:01PMc.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Backstrom, Chopped Canada, & Two and a Half Men.
