rrkidscookoffsmallI know the Remote posts have been hit or miss lately. There’s not been a lot on that we wanted to recommend that we haven’t been recommending way too often. *laugh* Thankfully, the new season starts soon! Until then, I’m totally telling you that you should watch tonight’s new episode of Rachael Ray’s Kids Cook-Off.

Normally, it’s Rachael and Guy Fieri, each mentoring a team of kid chefs, but this season, it’s Rachael alone, along with a different guest mentor/judge each week. I was impressed with the kids this season. I didn’t see any who immediately grated on my nerves as being too cocky or snotty like I’ve seen in the past. Another new twist this season is that instead of all the kids staying for the whole competition and gaining points throughout via cooking challenges, with the winner being the one with the most points at the end, this season, one kid chef is going home each week, just like on most regular cooking competition shows. So that should be interesting to see how the kids (and their parents!) handle it!

On tonight’s episode, “Fast Food Feud,” the seven chefs must put their own spin on a fast food classic. Food critic and Internet video star Daymon Patterson joins Rachael to judge the results.

See who excels and who goes home tonight on Food Network at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing American Ninja Warrior, Penn & Teller: Fool Us,So You Think You Can Dance, & Whose Line Is It Anyway?.

majorcrimes68smallTonight’s the season premiere of Major Crimes, and I’m so excited, given how last season ended. Phillip Stroh was back and in the process of signing a plea agreement, in which he would give up the names and locations of other victims, but I knew from the beginning of that story arc that something was hinky. The judge who was presiding over it was an old acquaintance of Stroh’s, so he wasn’t leery enough of the bad guy…and Stroh took advantage of that. Over the course of several visits, he kept dropping his pen (using the excuse of his handcuffed hands for the fumbling), requiring the judge to come around his desk and kneel down next to Stroh. But in the season finale, using the same “drop the pen” act, he killed the judge and escaped before anyone was the wiser. They got a manhunt going as soon as they figured it out, but they were unable to find him. That means Rusty is vulnerable once more. Speaking of Rusty… He’s turned into a great kid, and I really love his character.

Other notes about last season: Sharon and Finn seem to be dating without realizing it. Sharon finally divorced her ex, and then she formally adopted Rusty. Sanchez was nearly fired after his mother’s caretaker — who Sanchez realized was stealing from her and leaving her alone — was killed…after Sanchez beat the crap out of the guy. Instead, he was suspended and ordered to get help for his anger issues, and one of the things he decided was he would move home and be able to help with his mother more. And finally, although the SOB spinoff isn’t happening, Fritz Howard will be back during the new season.

On tonight’s episode, “A Rose is a Rose,” the squad investigates a double homicide related to an ongoing string of home invasions in the Hollywood Hills. Meanwhile, Sanchez attempts to reintegrate himself in the division after his suspension over a questionable use of force, while Captain Raydor makes a fateful choice in the life of her adopted son, Rusty.

Catch the drama and fun tonight on TNT at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing American Ninja Warrior, So You Think You Can Dance, Guilty Pleasures, & Murder in the First.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/18/14

It was a super busy weekend around my house, including a soccer tournament that ended with a shoot-out in the finals! What an insane amount of running around and sports that drowned my schedule, so I am beyond ready to watch some great television and relax tonight. Let’s see what we’re recommending to help us all unwind after the weekend.

masterchef2014smallMasterChef has been making me sit on the edge of my seat lately in the pressure tests, especially last week. Watching Leslie go through his fifth pressure test (a MasterChef first), was intense because he was going up against Ahran and Victoria in a challenge that involved cooking Santa Barbara Spot Prawns three ways. As if one way wasn’t difficult enough, but three ways? That is definitely a big hurdle when two were being sent home — Leslie’s lucky he has multiple lives… He made it through yet another test. Victoria left with a smile and was very proud of herself, but Ahran had everyone in tears — even Leslie, now that the two have gained some mutual respect for each other. I don’t believe it’s the end of Ahran’s career at all, seeing as she’s so young. That girl is going places for sure.

On tonight’s episode, “Top 8 Compete,” the remaining home cooks will split into four teams of two and prepare a poultry dish, each using different parts of the chicken. The two pairs who most successfully complete their dishes will be safe from elimination, while the two losing pairs will have to face a series of pressure tests with eggs. In each of the three pressure tests, one competing home cook will move on in the competition.

To see which home cook cracks under the pressure, tune in to FOX at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching American Ninja Warrior, King of Cones, Hotel Hell, Running Wild with Bear Grylls, Teen Wolf, and Whose Line Is It Anyway?.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/21/14

I had a really wonderful birthday weekend that included a barbeque with some of my friends and family. There was great food, drinks, laughs and even more exciting…fireworks! Now that my celebration is over, let’s see what’s we’re recommending tonight to keep the party going.

amninjasmallThis season of American Ninja Warrior has been very exciting so far, and I have been enjoying it a lot. One of my favorite moments was watching Kacy Catanzaro finish the qualifying course in Dallas, making her the first woman to ever finish this course. She was so fierce and strong, giving little girls (and adults too) a role model to look up to. The courses are intense and the athletes even more so. Love it! If you haven’t been watching, you definitely should.

On tonight’s episode, “St. Louis Finals,” the top 30 competitors travel to St. Louis, where they take on the St. Louis Finals course.

To see these athletes demonstrate their amazing abilities, tune in to NBC at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching Hotel Hell, MasterChef, Teen Wolf, and Mistresses.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/7/14

Ahh, Monday, my old friend. To celebrate the start of the work week, there’s some great stuff on tonight. Kyle had some issues with his water heater, so he didn’t have time to write up anything, but never fear…Megan and I are here. 😉 Check out what we’re recommending.

majorcrimes77smallLast week’s Major Crimes was a great one. To start off with, the case was excellent. A convicted rapist and killer who got paroled turned up at the station and said that even though he admitted in court to being the killer, he wasn’t actually the guy who’d killed the teenage girl years before. The cops weren’t taking him very seriously…until he himself got murdered. When they started looking into it further, things started falling apart and then falling into place. It turned out the killer was actually the witness against him during his trial—the guy who had a crush on the victim and was upset because she was with the other guy. All around, it was horribly sad. Then on the personal front, poor Rusty learned that his mom lied to him about the prescription she asked him to fill for her before she got out of rehab to go to the halfway house. He had Sharon find out info on it, and it was a medicine that drug addicts used to help get high. When he confronted her, his mother screamed at him, blaming her drug use on him being a bad kid, and said she’d accepted the fact that he was gay, so he should be able to accept her faults. It was heartbreaking to watch. 🙁

On tonight’s episode, “Do Not Disturb,” when a foreigner is found murdered inside his hotel room, the squad must work quickly to find the killer while avoiding any international repercussions when a U.S. diplomat becomes involved in the case. While everyone is busy with the case, Rusty tries to figure out how to share a big secret with the squad.

Find out what secret Rusty wants to share tonight on TNT at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing MasterChef, Rewrapped, FYI, A First Look, Longmire, & Murder in the First.
