bull920smallMy pick tonight is the series premiere of Bull. Michael Weatherly moves from being Tony DiNozzo on NCIS to playing Dr. Jason Bull in this drama inspired by the early career of Dr. Phil McGraw, found of one of the most prolific trial consulting firms of all time. Dr. Bull and his team of experts at TAC (Trial Analysis Corporation) combine psychology, human intuition, and high-tech data to learn what makes jurors, attorneys, witnesses, and the accused tick. His team includes: his brother-in-law Benny Colón (Freddy Rodriguez), who plays a defense attorney in mock trials; Marissa Morgan (Geneva Carr), a cutting-edge neurolinguistics expert from the Department of Homeland Security; former NYPD detective Danny James (Jaime Lee Kirchner), the firm’s tough but relatable investigator; haughty millennial hacker Cable McCrory (Annabelle Attanasio), who is responsible for gathering cyber intelligence; and Chunk Palmer (Chris Jackson), a fashion-conscious stylist and former All-American lineman who fine tunes clients’ appearances for trial.

I’ve seen tonight’s premiere, and it’s a great CBS procedural – just enough of the same to know I’ll love the show yet different enough to give it a bit of a new twist. Michael Weatherly is adorable and cocky, and his team is fun, although we don’t get to see a ton from them in the premiere. I can’t wait to see more of this one.

On tonight’s episode, “The Necklace,” when a wealthy young woman is killed and a young man is charged with her murder, his very wealthy, very well-known father hires Dr. Bull to help convince a jury to find the boy not guilty. Frederick Weller guest stars.

See Dr. Bull at work tonight on CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Chopped Junior, NCIS, Chopped, & NCIS: NOLA.

containment419smallTonight, The CW kicks off the new 13-episode limited series, Containment. After a deadly epidemic breaks out in an urban part of Atlanta, the residents in the area are quarantined in order to try to contain the outbreak while the CDC looks for a cure. The series follows the lives of those both inside the quarantine zone, who are struggling to stay alive, as well as those outside, who have been separated by their loved ones. Police officer Lex Carnahan (David Gyasi, Interstellar) learns that his girlfriend Jana (Christina Marie Moses, Starship: Apocalypse) and best friend Officer Jake Riley (Chris Wood, The Vampire Diaries) are trapped inside, along with 17-year-old Teresa (Hanna Mangan Lawrence, Spartacus: War of the Damned) who is 8-months pregnant and separated from her boyfriend Xander (Demetrius Bridges); elementary school teacher Katie Frank (Kristen Gutoskie, Beaver Falls) and her entire class, including her own son; and CDC researcher Dr. Victor Cannerts (George Young, Casualty), who played a major role in the quarantine effort. The series also stars Claudia Black (The Originals, Farscape) as Dr. Sabine Lommers and Trevor St. John (One Life to Live) as Leo Greene.

Containment is a remake of a 2014 Belgian series named Cordon, and comes from executive producers Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries) and Matt Corman (Covert Affairs). Tonight’s premiere was directed by David Nutter, who also directed the pilots of many other Warner Brothers shows, including Arrow, The Flash, Supernatural, Smallville, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and more. I’m looking forward to checking out tonight’s premiere. I always enjoy a good virus outbreak story, and this one looks like it could be really good. Though, it’ll probably make me paranoid and have me constantly washing my hands all day at work tomorrow and giving coughing and sneezing coworkers nervous looks!

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” a mysterious fatal virus breaks out and leads to part of Atlanta being quarantined in the series premiere of this drama.

To see how the virus gets out, tune in to The CW at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Limitless, The Real O’Neals, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., New Girl, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Grinder, The Flash, and The Night Manager.

tourgroupsmallFor weeks, during the episodes of Top Chef, I’ve been seeing ads for Bravo’s new travel reality series Tour Group, and I’ve been looking forward to checking it out. The series, which premieres tonight, finds three expert tour guides taking a group of eleven strangers on a once-in-a-lifetime trip around the globe. The eclectic mix of travelers include a pair of half brothers who have never been outside of the US, a married couple getting over a near-death experience, an on-air personality who is reevaluating his work/life balance after his own back-to-back near-death experiences, a woman on one last hurrah deciding whether it’s time to settle down with her boyfriend, a guy who recently broke up with his boyfriend, estranged twin sisters, a women who just went through a messy divorce from her billionaire ex-husband, and another divorcée who is engaged for the thirteenth time! It’ll be interesting to see how this odd mix of personalities learn to get along while experiencing new cultures and breathtaking locations. It kind of looks like The Amazing Race but without the challenges or elimination – the participants just get to enjoy the experience.

On tonight’s episode, “Not in Georgia Anymore,” the group lands in Marrakech, Morocco, to begin their journey in the series premiere of this travel-reality show about three tour guides and a group of strangers taking a globe-trotting trip. Also: A playboy sets his sights on estranged twin sisters.

Check out this fun new travel-reality show tonight on Bravo at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Muppets, Marvel’s Agent Carter, New Girl, Grandfathered, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Grinder, American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, Teen Wolf, and The Shannara Chronicles.

outsiderssmallTonight, WGN America kicks off its newest scripted series, Outsiders, with a commercial-free premiere. For the past 200 years, 7 generations of the Farrell family have lived in their mountaintop homestead in Appalachia, keeping themselves cut off from the rest of the world. Now a bunch of developers who own the land want to reclaim it and all of its resources, but the Farrells will fight to protect Shay Mountain and defend their way of life, at all costs. Local sheriff Wade Houghton (Thomas M. Wright, Top of the Lake), whose family has lived in the area for 5 generations, is familiar with the Farrells and is hesitant to get involved as he knows just how violent this battle will get.

Asa Farrell (Joe Anderson, The Divide) left the clan as a teenager to explore the outside world but has now returned like the prodigal son, looking to be welcomed back into the fold, but he is now quite different from the rest of his family. Asa’s cousin Big Foster (David Morse, Concussion) is next in line to be Bren’in, the Farrells’ king, and he’s anxious to take his new position. He suspects his mother, Lady Ray (Phyllis Somerville, The Big C), has delayed handing over power to him due to Asa’s return. G’Winveer (Gillian Alexy, The Americans) is a healer for the clan. She is Asa’s third cousin and former childhood sweetheart. She’s been with Big’s eldest son Lil’ Foster (Ryan Hearst, Sons of Anarchy) ever since Asa left but still holds deep feelings for her former love. The cast also includes Christina Jackson (Boardwalk Empire), who plays Sally-Ann, one of the few African-American folks in town, who falls in love with one of the Farrells.

Since Comcast only carries WGN America in SD in this area, I’m not sure I’ll be sticking with this show, but I’m curious to check out the premiere tonight. From the trailer, it looks fort of like Sons of Anarchy meets Mad Max meets Justified.

On tonight’s episode, “Farrell Wine,” a struggle for power and control set in the mysterious hills of modern-day Appalachia centers on the Farrell family, who, in the series premiere, are faced with new threats to their off-the-grid way of life in rural Kentucky.

Meet the Farrell family tonight on WGN America at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Marvel’s Agent Carter, Hollywood Game Night, New Girl, Grandfathered, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Grinder, The Flash, The Expanse, Pitch Slapped, Teen Wolf, and The Shannara Chronicles.

brooklyn991213smallLast week on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, we basically met the complete opposite of Jake and Rosa – cop partners from Sweden who were there to find stolen diamonds. They were all sorts of touchy-feely, waaaaaaay too far into each other’s personal business (*snicker* The best line of the night was that he already had his sperm in a tooperware container when she and her husband were trying to have a baby.), and were overly cheerful yet…condescending, too. Of course, Jake and Rosa don’t touch, don’t talk, certainly don’t share sperm, and much to Jake’s disappointment, don’t even share things like what he should get Amy for their anniversary or that Rosa and Marcus broke up. In the end, they were able to solve the case and Rosa not only helped Jake out with a gift idea, but she shared that she has a new boyfriend – only admitting his name was…*gasp* Tom *gasp*…after she’d downed a bunch of shots.

I love the show this year. It’s fun seeing the different pairings working together, and I love that we know Jake and Amy are together but it hasn’t affected anything negatively in terms of the show or how they work together, etc. Tonight is the fall finale, and it was a fantastic episode (gotta love the press screening rooms. *grin*). One of my favorites. There’s some great scenes with Jake and Charles, which are always fun, and an awesome story line with Capt. Holt, Rosa, and Amy. Overall, it’s a great way to go into the fall break.

On tonight’s episode, “Yippie Kayak,” Jake, Charles and Gina are involved in a real-life Die Hard situation while off-duty on Christmas Eve, and Terry must leave his family celebration to try to save his squad. Meanwhile, Amy tries to prove she’s just as tough as Holt and Rosa. Dean Winters, Merrin Dungey, and Jamal Duff guest star.

To see what predicament Jake, Charles, and Gina find themselves in, tune in to FOX at 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Guy’s Grocery Games, The Librarians, Jill and Jessa: Counting On, Agent X, Holiday Baking Championship, CSI: Cyber, & Cutthroat Kitchen.
