Jenny’s Choice
If you were a big fan of the original Charmed like I was, you’re either really excited about or really dreading tonight’s premiere of the “reboot†or whatever they’re calling it. It’s a little confusing because it’s not the same characters, but it is the same premise, yet one trailer does mention one of the characters from the original…so who knows!
Sisters Mel (Melonie Diaz, Laughs Unlimited) and Maggie (Sarah Jeffery, Shades of Blue) are dealing with the tragic death of their mother when they suddenly learn they have an older sister named Macy (Madeleine Mantock, Into the Badlands, The Tomorrow People). Then comes an even bigger shock: they find out they’re witches and each suddenly exhibit impossible new abilities. They speak to Harry Greenwood (Rupert Evans, Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond, The Man in the High Castle), who explains about their mother and now the three of them being powerful witches and that he’s their “Whitelighter,†or advisor/guide. Together, the three of them must decide to accept their new destiny as the Charmed Ones and their new duty to hunt down the demons that walk among humans – including the one who killed their mother. Charlie Gillespie, Ellen Tamaki, and Ser’Darius Blain also star.
I can’t go into this show prepared to compare it to the original. That version (along with Prue, Piper, Phoebe, & Paige, not to mention Leo, Chris, & Darryl) will always hold a special place in my heart. So I have to watch and think of it as something new or else I know I won’t return for a second ep. What about you? Are you planning to watch?
