modernfamily1021smallI am a huge fan of ABC’s Wednesday comedy block, and one of my favorites is still Modern Family. Last week, Cameron was having a bit of a midlife crisis, trying to be “bros” with the frat guys renting the apartment upstairs. Mitch was getting annoyed with his “bromosexual” husband and hatched a plan with Luke to end it. Meanwhile, Phil was obsessed with his duck eggs, building them an insanely detailed habitat while waiting for them to hatch; Claire was failing miserably at coming up with new closet ideas; and Manny was having troubling asking out a barista, until he saw his always-confident mother get tongue-tied in front of her favorite telenovela star, which gave him the push he needed,

This series continues to feel fresh and fun in its seventh season. The writers do a great job of mixing things up each week so that you get entertaining stories involving different pairings of the members of this extended family. The writing is always witty, and the stories always seem to converge in some unexpected but endearing way in the end.

On tonight’s episode, “The Verdict,” Gloria’s picked for jury duty and can’t wait to practice her U.S. citizenship, but Jay isn’t too happy to be helping out at Joe’s preschool by himself. Meanwhile, Claire’s plans for “Bring Your Daughter to Work Day” hit a snag; Phil participates in community service with Luke and Manny’s class; and Mitchell and Cameron can’t agree on a guest list for their party.

Don’t miss Gloria on jury duty tonight on ABC at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Survivor, Criminal Minds, Code Black, The Middle, The Goldbergs, black-ish, Empire, Arrow, Supernatural, American Horror Story: Hotel, The League, You’re the Worst, Worst Cooks in America, and Moonbeam City.

ncisla1019smallTwo of my favorites are going to collide tonight on NCIS: LA. Deeks and Tony. Tony and Deeks. Ahhhh! What’s a woman to do but watch and drool?! On last week’s episode, we got the sweetest scene with Deeks and Kensi. They finished a case where Kensi had been undercover, cozying up to the bad guy, so they were all tired. Kensi and Deeks went to her (His? Their? I don’t know…) house, and while she changed out of the super fancy, expensive dress into an Iron Maiden T-shirt and jeans, he cooked the perfect breakfast for the two of them. But Deeks acted uncharacteristically nervous and unsure of himself when he basically apologized for not being able to give Kensi anything money could buy. She responded perfectly by saying she had what she’d always dreamed of – a relationship like they had with a man like him. It was so heartwarmingly good. Of course, then they were interrupted by a case. LOL It turned out a man was threatening to blow people up and cut Sam and Callen off from the rest of their team to make them jump through his hoops. He was out for revenge since they’d killed his brother years before. In the end, the team was able to not only take him and his team down but also stop the bomb from going off before it could reach the intended target.

On tonight’s episode, “Blame It On Rio,” NCIS Special Agent DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly)
partners with the LA team to search the city after his prisoner escapes custody on a flight from Singapore to Los Angeles.

To see how Tony gets along with the team, tune in to CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Big Bang Theory, Life in Pieces, Halloween Baking Championship, Scorpion, & Blindspot.

truthbetold1016smallMy pick tonight is the series premiere of Truth Be Told (fka People are Talking), NBC’s latest comedy about two diverse couples who are both neighbors and best friends. As they go through life side-by-side, they can’t help but analyze and obsess about everything. From topics like sex and race, to the fact that the trusted new babysitter might just be a porn star, nothing is out of bounds for this wildly outspoken foursome. The cast includes Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Tone Bell, Vanessa Lachey, and Bresha Webb.

I’ve seen the pilot (although, it might have been an old version of it…) and really enjoyed it. Of course, Mark-Paul Gosselaar is one of my favorites – he has been since Saved By the Bell – but I love Tone Bell in this as well. I have to say the “babysitter might just be a porn star” was my favorite story line of the pilot, but I liked it all.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” Angie’s ex-boyfriend hooks her up with four tickets to the Jay-Z concert. Her husband, Russell, is wary, but her best friends Mitch and Tracy are thrilled with the opportunity to have a fun night out. But first, Tracy and Mitch have to scramble to find a babysitter for their daughter. Mitch fears Kimberly (guest star Antonimar Murphy), the leading candidate, is too attractive. Meanwhile, Russell voices an even bigger concern about the babysitter.

See if this new comedy makes you laugh tonight on NBC at 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Amazing Race, Last Man Standing, Undateable, Dr. Ken, Hawaii Five-0, Blue Bloods, & BBQ Blitz.

thegoldbergs1014smallThis season of The Goldbergs is off to a great start. It always amazes me how many of the crazy events we see on the show happened in real life to series creator Adam Goldberg – and that he’s willing to show us the awkward video proof at the end of the episode! Last week, Adam wanted a robot, but his father refused to buy one. So he and Murray tried building one from junk they found around the house, but this led to a big fight between them, and in the end Murray gave in and bought Adam the robot. Meanwhile, Barry accidentally taped over the video of his 5th birthday but made his mother believe she was one who did it. Beverly was crushed and devastated and was constantly blaming herself for the mistake. The guilt (and pressure from his siblings) ultimately got to be too much for Barry and he confessed the truth.

The Goldbergs are just a really fun family to hang out with every week, and watching their exploits each Wednesday night always gives me a great sense of nostalgia for my own childhood. I love the 80s throwback setting and pop culture references, the ridiculous situations, and the heartfelt family moments. I’m so glad this show (and the rest of my ABC Wednesday comedy lineup) are back!

On tonight’s episode, “I Caddyshacked the Pool,” Adam, who’s embarrassed by his changing body, is desperate to get out of swimming in gym class; and Erica tries to create her identity at school by starting a club that, to her dismay, Barry joins.

Find out if Adam can get out of swimming tonight on ABC at 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Survivor, Criminal Minds, Code Black, The Middle, Modern Family, black-ish, Empire, Arrow, Supernatural, Young & Hungry, American Horror Story: Hotel, The League, You’re the Worst, Worst Cooks in America, and Moonbeam City.
