If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/5/20

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Jenny’s Choice

I’m so excited for tonight’s (US) series premiere of Coroner, which is based off the book series by @MatthewH_books and originally aired in Canada and is set in Toronto. Serinda Swan (Ballers and what I know her from, Breakout Kings & Graceland) stars as Dr. Jenny Cooper, a recently widowed and newly appointed coroner who investigates any suspicious, unnatural, or sudden deaths. She uses her intuition as much as her intellect and heart to solve cases alongside Homicide Detective Donovan “Mac” McAvoy (Roger Cross, Arrow, The X-Files), who isn’t afraid of challenging the status quo. Also working with Jenny is pathologist Dr. Dwayne Allen (Lovell Adams-Gray, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), his assistant River Baitz (Kiley May, It: Chapter Two), and Jenny’s assistant Alison Trent (Tamara Podemski, Run), who keeps it real. And while Jenny solves mysterious deaths, she also deals with clinical anxiety, a teenage son, Ross (Ehren Kassam, Degrassi: Next Class, Degrassi: The Next Generation), who is still grieving the death of his father, and the prospect of starting a new relationship with the enigmatic (& in my opinion cutie) Liam (Eric Bruneau, Trop).

I’ve seen the entire first season (they had screeners available a LONG time ago, and I’ve been dying for it to finally air here so I could share!), and I loved it. Jenny’s mental health is shaky, at best, but she’s great at her job and you really find yourself rooting for her. Mac is great too, and I really enjoyed the story lines that wind throughout the season.

On tonight’s premiere, “Black Dog,” when Dr. Jenny Cooper’s (Serinda Swan) life is upended by the untimely death of her husband, she changes her professional focus, becoming the newly appointed coroner in Toronto. As she learns to navigate raising a teenage son on her own, Jenny’s first case affects her personally when she is called to investigate the death of a teen in a youth detention center.

To see how Jenny handles everything life suddenly throws her way, tune in to The CW at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching Guy’s Grocery Games & United We Fall.
