John C. McGinley, Deborah Baker Jr.Tonight, the new horror-comedy series Stan Against Evil premieres on IFC. Sheriff Stan Miller (John C. McGinley, Scrubs, Ground Floor) is forced into retirement after an uncontrolled outburst. However, a plague of angry demons falls upon the small New Hampshire town, which was built on a 17th century witch-burning site. So he begrudgingly teams up with his young replacement, Evie Barret (Janet Varney, You’re the Worst) to keep the evil forces at bay. The series is written by comedian Dana Gould and also stars Nate Mooney (American Odyssey) and Deborah Baker Jr.

I haven’t seen this series yet, but I really like John C. McGinley, who is perfect for this kind of gruff, bitter-guy role. And based on the promos, it looks like this series will contain that same fun mix of horror and comedy that makes shows like Ash vs Evil Dead so entertaining. I can’t wait to check out tonight’s special one-hour premiere.

On tonight’s premiere, “Dig Me Up Dig Me Down; Know, Know, Know Your Goat,” a disgraced small-town sheriff teams with his replacement to battle demons. Then Stan’s daughter brings home a goat that is really an ancient hircine demon.

Catch the one-hour series premiere tonight on IFC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Survivor, Criminal Minds, Blindspot, Lethal Weapon, Empire, Arrow, Frequency, Worst Cooks in America, You’re the Worst, Younger, and Impastor.

chicagopd1026smallI missed having a new episode of Chicago PD on last week because of the debate. On the episode a couple of weeks ago, people were shot and driven into with a car outside the concert of a young (teenage) rapper – including the rapper himself – and it was thought to be gang-related. It was, but not in the way they first thought. Turned out one gang was trying to turn two other gangs against each other, and it looked like it was working. They started attacking each other, until Voight took the leaders from both out to one of his spots and explained that neither were behind the original attack and to let this one go. That was a fun scene! Meanwhile, while trying to talk to some of the people on the “watch list” (a list of who they thought was most likely to be the next victim), Burgess saw Atwater’s younger brother at the house of one of the “watch list” kids. She cornered him, took him home, and stayed until Atwater got home. I don’t know if Atwater should have come down harder on the kid or not. It seemed like he kind of just brushed it under the rug. Huh…

On tonight’s episode, “A War Zone,” Intelligence is tasked with tracking down the dealers of fentanyl – a drug that has been linked to multiple overdoses around the city. As they investigate possible sources, the team uncovers a series of dealers in a college smuggling ring. Meanwhile, Tay and Burgess come across a bloodied child who exposes a dark and twisted secret about his home life with his parents. Additionally, Mouse causes tension as he looks to reenlist in the army, and Platt tells Tay that she has been reassigned to her original post.

See if they can find the dealers and why Tay has to go tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Blindspot, The Goldbergs, Speechless, Criminal Minds, Frequency, Law & Order: SVU, Modern Family, Worst Cooks in America, black-ish, & That Awkward Game Show.

chicagopd105smallLast week’s Chicago PD got a little bit more back to normal after the first episode dealt primarily with the fallout from Voight’s actions after his son’s death. And last week was very timely, given what’s going on in the country right now. When a young white couple was beaten up and the woman went missing in a primarily (all?) black neighborhood basically run by one of the city’s gangs, Intelligence and the rest of CPD had to work to make sure it wasn’t about race but simply about finding the missing woman. Of course, I had to feel for the woman when we figured out her fiancé had gone there to buy drugs and she was collateral damage. Thankfully, they were able to find her, but not before she was horrifically attacked by a guy who had been in prison before for rape. It was a very sad case.

The other big thing was Platt going up against Tay’s former boss, Commander Fogel. In the premiere, he ran into Tay at the hospital and learned she’d been moved to the 21st. So last week, he confronted Platt about going around him (to which she snarked she didn’t… She went above him. Hah!) to get Tay transferred. Then he basically threatened her and told her to move Tay back to his district immediately. When Tay asked her later if things were okay between her and Fogel, Platt said everything was fine…but it isn’t, and I have to wonder if that is part of what is up with tonight scary exciting episode…

On tonight’s episode, “All Cylinders Firing,” when Platt goes to her father Robert’s (guest star Chelcie Ross) house for dinner, she warns him to be careful with his new girlfriend Natalie (guest star Lilia Vassileva). Following dinner, Platt is physically assaulted as she’s getting into her car and is rushed to Chicago Med. Christian Stolte (Mouch from Chicago Fire, and Platt’s husband) also guest stars.

Find out if Platt is going to be okay tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

This season of Criminal Minds is going to look a little different than the past eleven. For one, Derek (Shemar Moore) retired from the FBI last season after his wife had a baby and he was held hostage by a bad guy. And second, after an altercation on set with a writer, Thomas Gibson was put on leave and then quickly fired, which means Hotch will only be in a couple (or few, I don’t know…) episodes. On a great note, though, the show rehired Paget Brewster as a series regular, which means Prentiss is back full-time! Also on board full-time as a series regular is Aisha Tyler (playing Dr. Tara Lewis) and new agent Luke Alvez, played by CSI: Miami vet Adam Rodriguez, who I loved on that show.

So who is taking over Hotch’s job as team leader? Some fans are suggesting Prentiss…and while that might work, I don’t see why Rossi isn’t the perfect person for the job – unless he doesn’t want it. Regardless, this season should be exciting as the team learns to work together and try to re-capture the serial killers who escaped from prison in the finale last season.

On tonight’s episode, “The Crimson King,” Agent Luke Alvez joins the BAU team, which is tasked with capturing a killer who escaped prison with 13 other convicts.

See how well the team works together tonight on CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Blindspot, The Goldbergs, Lethal Weapon, Speechless, Law & Order: SVU, Modern Family, Whose Line is It Anyway?, Worst Cooks in America, black-ish, Chicago PD, & Cutthroat Kitchen.

chicagopd54smallIt’s been just over a month since we last saw Chicago PD, and I’ve missed it! It’s my favorite of the “Chicago” shows, although I love all three. On the last episode, police got calls about a woman who’d stabbed a man, and it turned out the woman was a kidnapping victim who escaped when he was moving her to a new location. The guy was a total sociopath. He was a realtor and he had kept this woman chained in the basement of one of the houses. It turned out his wife was a previous victim he’d kidnapped who adamantly refused to believe the police when they tried to tell her who she really was. It finally sunk in at the end, and they were able to arrest the guy. But he was really creepy!

I’m not a big fan of the Burgess/Roman pairing they seem to be shoving down our throats. Burgess & Roman were great as partners, and Burgess is still not over Ruzek, so why are they forcing that on us? Argh. Frustrating! But I do love seeing Lindsay and Halstead! They should definitely keep giving us more of them. LOL

On tonight’s episode, “In a Duffel Bag,” responding to a call about a suspicious duffel bag at the Chicago Lakefront, Voight is horrified to discover that the bag contains the frigid and unmoving body of a newborn baby. Determined to find the culprit who abandoned the infant, Intelligence receives a promising lead based on information provided by Chicago Med, and Ruzek helps zero in on a potential suspect. Meanwhile, Voight is surprised to hear that his son is in town, and Burgess and Roman grow closer.

See if Intelligence can track down whoever left the baby in the duffel bag tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Heartbeat, Rosewood, The Goldbergs, Criminal Minds, Law & Order: SVU, Modern Family, black-ish, & Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders.
