Olivier Rabourdin as RomanTonight, Sundance Channel kicks off the six-part crime series The Last Panthers, which is inspired by the real-life events of the notorious Balkans jewel thieves. The series is set in modern-day Europe, where a group of thieves pulls off a daring diamond heist that bears all the hallmarks of the Pink Panthers, a group that was thought to no longer exist. In the course of the robbery and investigation, a tragedy occurs, which causes the worlds of several folks to unexpectedly collide. The series explores the interplay between the thieves, traffickers, government officials, war criminals, and bankers who are all affected by this heist. Among these folks are insurance adjuster Naomi Franckom (Samantha Morton, Minority Report), who’s haunted by her past service for the UN; Naomi’s boss Tom Kendle (John Hurt, Doctor Who), who specializes in diamond recovery; thief Milan Celik (Goran Bogdan), who’s trying to get money for his brother’s heart surgery; and French police officer Khalil Rachedi (Tahar Rahim), a man whose troubled past resurfaces.

The series is based on an idea by French journalist Jérôme Pierrat, was co-created and written by Jack Thorne (Skins), and directed by Johan Renck (Breaking Bad). I always love a good heist story, I like the pedigree of the folks behind the show, and from the trailer this series looks really interesting! I’m looking forward to checking out tonight’s premiere, and since it’s only 6 episodes, it’s not a huge time commitment for my already-full DVR!

On tonight’s premiere, “The Animal,” a heist in Marseilles bears the earmarks of a notorious gang thought to be out of the business.

Check out how the thieves pull off the diamond heist tonight on Sundance Channel at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Survivor, Criminal Minds, The Middle, The Goldbergs, Modern Family, black-ish, Empire, and The Americans.

empire330smallTonight, Empire finally returns to FOX after almost four months away. When we last left off, Cookie was busy setting up a concert for Family Day at her old prison. Meanwhile, Lucious was about to make his big announcement about SwiftStream and invited Mimi to the stage to do so, but in an unexpected twist, she called for a vote to remove Lucious as the head of the company. Afterwards, Camilla paid a visit to Hakeem, suggestively fondling him while promising to take his career to the next level. That seemed to be all the convincing he needed, because at the vote Hakeem voted to oust his father from his own company. At the end of the midseason finale, a very pregnant Rhonda was pushed down the stairs by an unknown assailant as the nominees for the American Sound Awards were announced on a TV in the background – both Jamal and Lucious were nominated for Song of the Year.

Is Rhonda dead? If not, did she lose the baby? Who attacked her, and what was their reason for doing so? What is Lucious going to do now that he has been ousted from his company – what kind of play will he make to regain control? How will Hakeem’s betrayal factor into all of this? And what kind of fallout will occur from Jamal and Lucious competing for the same award? It should be a fun, soapy second half to the season. I’m glad I was finally able to catch up over the winter break, because I’m looking forward to a lot more unexpected twists and turns.

On tonight’s episode, “Death Will Have His Day,” Lucious announces he will stop at nothing to be at the top of his company again, but he’ll have to make his way past Cookie first. Meanwhile, Rhonda, Andre, and the rest of the Lyon family struggle to come to terms with a horrific tragedy that will change their lives forever.

See what happened with Rhonda and the baby tonight on FOX at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Survivor, Criminal Minds, Heartbeat, Arrow, Supernatural, Baby Daddy, Lopez, and The Americans.

"Younger" (Ep. 212 - Airs March 23, 2016)Tonight, the second season of Younger comes to a close. Last week, Liza threatened Thad that if he didn’t tell Kelsey he was cheating on her, she would do it for him. Meanwhile, Empirical was busy trying to prepare for the launch of the latest fantasy novel from their biggest author – an obvious nod to George R. R. Martin and his “A Song of Ice and Fire.” They were auditioning actresses to portray the heroine at the launch party when Liza walked in, and the lecherous author immediately wanted her to be the one to wear the Slave Leia-like costume. Meanwhile, Thad showed up to Liza’s apartment to try to convince her not to talk to Kelsey, when he ran into Liza’s daughter – and knew he now had a bargaining chip. He met with Liza in the city and threatened to go public about her age, but Liza told Thad that she was going to tell Kelsey the truth and that she didn’t care what he did. However, she soon didn’t have to worry about any of that, because as she walked away, a steel girder came falling from the sky and landed right on top of Thad!

What a shocking, unexpected, but totally effective turn of events! It looks like Liza’s secret is safe for a little longer, but how is Kelsey going to take the news of her fiance’s untimely death? And what about Liza – how will this brush with death affect her? Will she finally just come clean on her own? And what about her love life – will she get back with Josh, will she finally make a move on Charles, or will she find love somewhere else?

On tonight’s episode, “No Weddings & a Funeral,” tragedy strikes, and Liza wonders if she should end her 26-year-old life forever.

Learn what decisions Liza makes tonight on TV Land at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Survivor, Criminal Minds, The Middle, The Goldbergs, Modern Family, black-ish, Heartbeat, Arrow, Supernatural, Young & Hungry, Baby Daddy, and The Americans.

beyondborderssmallTonight is the series premiere of the newest Criminal Minds spinoff, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. This specialized International Division of the FBI is responsible for solving crimes and rescuing Americans who find themselves in danger while overseas. Heading the International Response Team is Unit Chief Jack Garrett (Gary Sinise, CSI: NY), a 20-year veteran of the Bureau. His team includes Clara Seger (Alana De La Garza, Forever, Law & Order), a smart, well-traveled, and multi-lingual cultural anthropologist; Matthew Simmons (Daniel Henney, Three Rivers), a former military hero with split-second profiling skills he honed on the battlefield; Russ “Monty” Montgomery (Tyler James Williams, Everybody Hates Chris), the unit’s compassionate, brilliant tech analyst who additionally liaises stateside with the families of those in trouble while his group is far from home; and Mae Jarvis (Annie Funke), the team’s fearless and fun medical examiner.

I’ve seen the first two episodes, and I think if you’re a fan of the original, you’ll really enjoy the spinoff. Even if you aren’t, I think you should give it a shot. The team has a lot of the same type of chemistry as the original, with a lot of fun personalities. And come on! It’s Gary Sinise! He’s great, of course, but I also REALLY loved the others. Henney’s Simmons and Funke’s Jarvis have a fun relationship, with hints of Morgan and Garcia, but not a romance, because Simmons is happily married with kids. And Monty is a great counterpart for Garcia, although not quite as eccentric. But there’s the difference of being in really cool locations overseas, and the cases are a bit different, as well.

On tonight’s episode, “The Harmful One,” Unit Chief Jack Garrett and his International Response Team (IRT) travel to Thailand when three American volunteers go missing during a trek to Bangkok. They reconnect with former colleague Clara Seger, who helps them rush to gather evidence leading to the UnSub before a storm threatens to wash it away.

Meet the new team tonight on CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Rosewood, The Goldbergs, Hell’s Kitchen, Modern Family, Property Brothers, Wahlburgers, black-ish, & Donnie Loves Jenny.

rosewood32smallRosewood has been off our TVs for three months, but it’s back tonight, picking up from where they left off in December – in search of a serial killer. The first victim had been drained of blood and his blood used to write a message on a fortune cookie. Then the second victim was also drained of blood, but his heart had been removed from his body without an incision. After that, the PD computers were hacked into and a clue left for the police, which led them to a museum where victim #3’s brain had been left as an art installation. The clues led them to a man named Roger, who they first thought was another almost-victim, but then they figured out that his description of the bad guy was a mask they found at his place, so they arrested him as the murderer. At the end of the episode, Villa and Rosie were at the lab, having a moment, when they saw a message the killer had left, saying they had the wrong guy. Oops!

I’ve seen tonight’s episode, and it’s a fun way to wrap up that story line. Villa’s new…boyfriend/fling/whatever, Mike, is back, as is Rosie’s (ex-)girlfriend/Villa’s therapist Kat. Plus, we get to meet TMI’s family. Fun stuff!

On tonight’s episode, “Paralytics and Priorities,” picking up where the series left off after the fall finale, Rosewood and Villa must decipher a trail of clues before the killer claims another victim. Pippy wants to confront TMI’s mother. Hornstock is faced with a decision. And things heat up between Mike and Villa.

See if Rosie and Villa can solve the case before there’s another murder tonight on FOX at 8/7c.
