CSI: Vegas Season 1 DVD Review

Official Synopsis: A new threat has enshrouded the neon streets of Sin City, and it’s going to take some familiar faces to stare it down. William Petersen and Jorja Fox return to the roles they made famous – and to the crime drama that made CBS history – in CSI: Vegas. Can they prevent the perpetrator from bringing down the whole CSI crime lab? Old friends meet new enemies – and the latest forensic techniques – in CSI: Vegas.

I was a huge fan of the original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation when it began airing in 2000. So when I learned they were going to air a revival, even with an almost all new cast, I was super excited. So when the new CSI: Vegas started in October 2021, I watched each episode religiously. And for the most part, it didn’t disappoint. It even features an updated version of the original opening, which was fantastic to hear and see! Check it out below.

The return of Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) and Gil Grissom (William Petersen), along with David Hodges (Wallace Langham) & Jim Brass (Paul Guilfoyle), was incredibly welcome. I especially enjoyed series newcomers Paula Newsome as head of the lab Maxine Roby, as well as Matt Lauria & Mandeep Dhillon as CSIs Joshua Folsom & Allie Rajan. When Brass is attacked and Hodges is accused of manipulating evidence during his years as a CSI, Sara & Grissom decide to come back to find Brass’s attacker and help clear Hodges’ name so the crime lab itself can be cleared of any wrongdoing. The season focuses on those things, and for the most part, I thought they handled it well. We still got the “case of the week” while also dealing with the season arc of those story lines.

Season 1 of CSI: Vegas was released on DVD on April 5, 2022. It contains 3 discs featuring all 10 episodes, along with some great Special Features:

Deleted Scenes:
“Legacy” (Disc 1), “Honeymoon in Vegas” (Disc 1), “Under the Skin” (Disc 1), “Long Pig” (Disc 1), “Let the Chips Fall” (Disc 1), “Funhouse” (Disc 2)

Featurettes:
Everything Old Is New Again – Learn how the revival was brought to our TV screens and the challenges it faced with the possibility of being compared to the original. Both the new and returning cast members chat about their thoughts on the revival and their characters.
A Brand New Look – Associate Producer Alex Berry gives viewers a tour of the newly created state-of-the-art laboratory sets — very much an updated to the 21st Centurty. (Note: It really is amazing. I went back to look at some of the original series, and it seems so dark and…old now! When it first aired, it all felt so high tech! LOL)
Seeing Is Believing – Visual Effects Supervisor Brad Tannenbaum goes into great detail about some of the amazing footage and shots in the revival. You’ll be awed by the incredible effects as they’re deconstructed to give you an inside look at how they’re done.

Overall, this is a fun addition to the original series and well worth owning on DVD (or Blu-ray!).

quantico927smallJoining ABC’s Sunday lineup tonight is the new drama Quantico. There has been a major terrorist attack on New York City, and the FBI suspect that it may have been initiated by a sleeper agent within the organization. As the investigation happens in the present, the show jumps back nine months earlier as a diverse crop of new trainees enters the FBI academy in Quantico, VA. Could one of these new recruits be the terrorist who masterminded the attack?

In the opener, we meet all the trainees, learn some of their secrets, and see some shifty behavior that makes all of them look like potential suspects. At the heart of the series is Alex Parrish (Priyanka Chopra), a tough, independent young woman who has a knack for reading people and noticing small details. The other agents include former Marine Ryan Booth (Jake McLaughlin, Believe), Mormon Eric Packer (Brian Jacob Smith, Stargate Universe), devout Muslim Nimah Amin (Yasmine Al Massri, Crossbones), girl-next-door Shelby Wyatt (Johanna Braddy, UnREAL), former CPA Simon Asher (Tate Ellington, The Mindy Project), golden boy Caleb Haas (Graham Rogers, Revolution), and instructors Liam O’Connor (Josh Hopkins, Cougar Town) and Miranda Shaw (Aunjanue Ellis, The Book of Negroes).

When I first saw the ads for the series, I had written it off as Grey’s Anatomy meets How To Get Away With Murder. However, I was pleasantly surprised by tonight’s premiere – it introduces some interesting characters, premise, and central mystery. It mixes some humor in with the drama and gives viewers some very unexpected and exciting twists. I look forward to seeing how it all plays out in the coming weeks as I try to figure out which of the recruits is hiding the biggest secret of them all!

On tonight’s premiere, “Run,” the new recruits arrive at the FBI Academy, where they are tasked with discovering a redacted secret about one of their classmates.

Meet the new recruits tonight on ABC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording CSI, Once Upon a Time, Blood & Oil, Bob’s Burgers, The Simpsons, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Family Guy, The Last Man on Earth, The Strain, The Great Food Truck Race, Fear the Walking Dead, Project Greenlight, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.

snl40thspecialsmallLive from New York, it’s…err…Sunday Night! Tonight, NBC celebrates four decades of Saturday Night Live with a huge, live SNL 40th Anniversary Special. There have been so many great sketches and characters over the years, and the series has launched the film and TV careers of so many hilarious men and women. Dozens of former cast members and guests will return for tonight’s special—thirty or so have already been confirmed, with likely even more celebs making surprise appearances. The confirmed former guests include Justin Timberlake, Emma Stone, Derek Jeter, Paul McCartney, Kanye West, Melissa McCarthy, Robert De Niro, Paul Simon, Jerry Seinfeld, Jack Nicholson, Peyton Manning, Jim Carrey, Alec Baldwin, Taylor Swift, Christopher Walken, Tom Hanks, and Betty White. And the confirmed former cast members include Jimmy Fallon, Chevy Chase, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Molly Shannon, Steve Martin, Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Amy Poehler, Dana Carvey, Kristen Wiig, Dan Akroyd, Chris Rock, Garrett Morris, Andy Samberg, Maya Rudolph, Martin Short, Bill Murray, and Sara Silverman.

With so many talented folks involved, it should be one amazing show! Will the special feature the returning folks doing the same characters and routines that made them famous? Or will they just take advantage of this amazing cast and come up with all new material? Or will they find a way to mash up the SNL world, bringing old and new characters together into fun new scenarios? And will there be some sort of tribute to cast members who are no longer with us, like John Belushi, Phil Hartman, Chris Farley, and Gilda Radner?

The night kicks off at 7/6c with a 1-hour red carpet special, followed by a three-and-a-half-hour show! I feel bad for the West Coast, who will need to try to avoid the live tweets and spoilers!

While I’m watching 4.5 hours of SNL, I’ll also be recording CSI, The Simpsons, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers, Worst Cooks in America, The Walking Dead, Togetherness, Looking, Shameless, and Episodes.

galavant125smallTonight, ABC’s hilarious four-week musical comedy event Galavant comes to a close. When we last left off, Galavant and his crew had made their way to the castle but were captured and thrown in the dungeon. Galavant’s big reunion with Madalena didn’t go as he had hoped—he professed his love, but she returned the favor by ordering Gareth to kill Isabella and torture the rest of them. However, Galavant seemed to have finally realized his feelings for Isabella, which gave him to the revived spirit to storm out of the dungeon, declaring he would save the day. Meanwhile, we learned that Richard was actually the second choice for king, as his brother didn’t want the job when they were young children. However, Kingsley has now returned to reclaim his throne.

How will it all end? What is Galavant’s big plan? Will Richard keep his kingdom, or will Madalena move on and marry Kingsley to maintain her lifestyle? Will Galavant save the day and live happily ever after with Isabella? With just 2 episodes and 4 songs left, I’m really excited for tonight’s big conclusion but also sad that tonight’s episode is the (hopefully just “season”) finale!

On tonight’s first episode, “My Cousin Izzy,” Galavant finally gets his chance to be a hero when King Richard challenges his brother to a duel and requires someone to fight for him. Then, in “It’s All in the Executions,” a plot to kill Kingsley is hatched before his duel with Richard.

See who takes (or keeps) the crown and if Galavant gets his woman tonight on ABC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording CSI, The Simpsons, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers, Downton Abbey, Worst Cooks in America, Sons of Liberty, Togetherness, Looking, Shameless, Episodes, and Mike Tyson Mysteries.
