complications618smallI’m always leery of new dramas if they aren’t procedurals, because I have such strict guidelines on what I like and dislike. So when I first heard about USA Network’s latest, Complications, I figured I’d give it a shot, especially since I was such a huge fan of Burn Notice (which was created by Matt Nix, who created this as well), but I honestly wasn’t expecting to enjoy it enough to continue. I’ve watched the first two episodes (the two that are airing tonight), and I loved it so far. There’s lots of exciting drama and tension and a ton of emotion that made my heart clench. Jason O’Mara stars as John Ellison, an ER doctor, who intervenes in a drive-by shooting and saves a little boy’s life. But things escalate quickly when he learns that the boy is a gang leader’s son and now he’s expected to keep the boy alive as the rival gang tries yet again to kill him. The series also stars Jessica Szohr as ER nurse Gretchen Polk (whose character has great chemistry with Ellison, who is – unfortunately, in my opinion. LOL – married), Beth Riesfraf (loved her in Leverage) as Samantha Ellison (John’s wife), and Lauren Stamile (a stick-in-the-mud, rigid ER doctor).

On tonight’s double episodes, “Pilot/Infection,” disillusioned ER doctor John Ellison finds his existence transformed when he intervenes in a drive-by shooting, saving a young boy’s life. When he learns the boy is still marked for death, John is compelled to keep him alive. In part 2, when Antoine disappears from his hospital bed, John must find him quickly or face the consequences of losing a gang leader’s son. ER nurse Gretchen Polk tries to convince a combative patient to lie about her medical condition in order to keep John clear of their supervisor’s suspicions.

Don’t miss the exciting new drama tonight on USA Network at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Beat Bobby Flay.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/2/14

What a difference a couple of weeks makes in TV land! A couple of weeks ago, we were bombarded by tons of season finales, and now we are a little less busy with a few new episodes each night—it’s bittersweet. On one hand, it’s a nice break, but still, I miss all my shows. While I ponder my need to fulfill my TV addiction, let’s see what we’re recommending to help ease the withdrawal.

mistresses62smallTonight is the second season premiere of Mistresses, and what a mess we’re going to get into after last season. This show is pure drama that has great writing along with a fabulous cast. I have to be honest that at first, I wasn’t sure I was going to like this show because it was too much like a soap opera, but after a few episodes, I was hooked. Whether it’s an illicit affair or a secret pregnancy, this show is one to keep you on the edge of your seat constantly with eagerness to see where they’ll go next. If you haven’t watched this show in the past, now is the time to start for sure.

On tonight’s episode, “Rebuild,” eight months later, Savi, having cheated death, makes the most of her second chance. Karen struggles to rebound from loss, both personal and professional. April’s life gets interesting when old friend, Mickey (guest star Joseph May), returns and pushes her to make some changes, and Joss tries her hand at a new job: party planner to wealthy Angelenos.

To see what our crazy ladies get up to this season, tune in to ABC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching MasterChef, 24: Live Another Day, Whose Line is it Anyway?, and Rewrapped.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/2/13

Normally, this is where I’d say it was time to get back to work, but luckily, today is Labor Day, which means one extra day—or if you’re my husband, one extra day of three because he took two days of vacation, too. That means we get to catch up on TV, including the great new episodes on tonight. So check out what we’re recommending for you.

amninjasmallI’m so mad about my pick for last week. Jim was shot by a mystery person (Ray? Ray’s mother?) before he could get to the church, leaving Callie alone at the alter, so to speak. The season ended with that…and it turned out, the series ended with that, as well, since it was canceled. Bah!

Now that I’ve grouched about that, don’t let it keep you from enjoying this week’s choice. 😉 My husband & I are really enjoying American Ninja Warrior, that’s been airing on G4 and NBC. We’re smack dab in the middle of Stage 1 of Mount Midoriyama, and let tell me…it’s been a bear! Insanely fun and hard challenges—I think the Giant Cycle looks REALLY fun, but the Jumping Spider has taken out the most contestants so far in the finals. And the last episode was heartbreaking, with one of the athletes hitting the buzzer .03 seconds too late to move on. The worst part was that they broke the news to him—after he’d already thought he’d made it through—on camera. He was devastated.

On tonight’s episode, “Vegas Finals,” the show continues the competition from Las Vegas, Nevada, where the top finishers from the regional finals tackle the ultimate challenge: a four-stage course modeled after “Mount Midoriyama” in Japan. Competitors will attempt Stage 1, which includes three brand new obstacles: the Giant Cycle, Rope Glider, and the Timbers. The finalists will vie to win a cash prize of $500,000 and the title of “American Ninja Warrior.”

To see who makes it through Stage 1, tune in to the two-hour episode on NBC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Diners, Drive-ins & Dives & The Shed.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/29/13

We had a pretty good family camping trip, with only a couple of injuries and only one trip to the emergency room. My 13-year-old stepson got a fish hook through his finger—yes, it was as nasty as it sounds, but he’s doing fine and is back to normal. Now, we’re all back to civilization and catching up on TV. Let’s see what you should be watching tonight.

mistresses729smallMistresses is still heating up our televisions every week, and I can’t think of a better way to spend the summer. These women are breaking boundaries and making TV racy again—people compare it to Desperate Housewives, but in my opinion, this show is far more entertaining, and the cast is incredibly hot. Last episode, we watched as Henry gave Savi an ultimatum about the baby: if it’s not his, then she has to choose between him or the child. In that moment, I hated Henry—choose to not have a baby because it’s not his? Well, too bad for him. The baby didn’t ask to be conceived. Don’t get me wrong… I get how Henry could feel so betrayed, but if he ever loved Savi, then he wouldn’t ask her to choose.

On tonight’s episode, “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?” when Savi and Joss’s free-spirited, open-minded and often absent mother comes for an unexpected visit, she brings big news, but also stirs up some long-simmering family tensions.

To see how the reunion goes, tune in to ABC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching The Bachelorette, Teen Wolf, Siberia, American Ninja Warrior, and Breaking Pointe.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/15/13

I know we have all been bombarded with a lot of sad news this weekend, but I would like to take this moment to send out condolences to Cory Monteith’s family, friends, and fans. He was a talented young man who’s life ended far too soon. The choirs will sound even sweeter with his beautiful voice joining them. Now on to some distracting television.

Megan’s Choice

thebachelorette2013smallI don’t usually choose those silly dating shows, but I have fallen into the trap of The Bachelorette this season. (Kyle, not a word.) To be honest, I couldn’t help myself, because Desiree is quite amusing, but the men this season are also intriguing (and yes, hot). Last week, we saw Michael go home, which I wasn’t surprised at all by because the relationship between them seemed very forced. He also kind of creeped me out—sorry, just saying. I’m rooting for Drew or Chris. I can’t decide which yet.

On tonight’s episode, Brooks, Chris, Drew, and Zak bring Desiree to their hometowns, where she meets their families.

To see how the family interactions go, tune in to ABC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching Teen Wolf, American Ninja Warrior, Mistresses, and Under the Dome.
