nathanforyou2015smallI am really enjoying this latest season of Nathan For You. The series continues to deliver lots of laugh-out-loud moments with each crazy new business scheme. Last week, Nathan helped the owner of a moving company cut down his operating costs by utilizing free labor. Nathan’s plan involved starting a new exercise craze called The Movement, getting people to work for free in the name of fitness. Nathan found a fit spokesmodel who was willing to say that he lost 100 pounds just by moving boxes, and then he hired a ghostwriter to pen a 150-page autobiography about him. The book – which you can actually purchase on Amazon – includes some crazy facts about this man’s past, such as the fact that his childhood friend was Steve Jobs and that he mentored a jungle child. But this ludicrous backstory didn’t stop the morning shows and other news programs from believing in The Movement and interviewing its spokesman on air about his dramatic weight loss and unique workout routine!

I love how ridiculous and strange Nathan’s business plans are and how the show is able to blur reality and fiction such that you never quite know what is real and what is scripted. If you have never seen the show before, you should definitely check it out! Earlier this week, I reviewed (and highly recommended) the upcoming Seasons One & Two DVD, which hits store shelves next Tuesday. My review can be found at NoReruns.net.

On tonight’s episode, “Sporting Goods Store; Antique Shop,” an endorsement deal is sought for a sporting-goods store; an antique shop amends a policy regarding accidents.

See what crazy fun Nathan gets up to tonight on Comedy Central at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, Life in Pieces, Grey’s Anatomy, Heroes Reborn, The Blacklist, The Player, Bones, and Sleepy Hollow.

theplayer1015smallThe Player has quickly become a must-watch show for my fiancé and me. He loves the action, and I’m drawn in by the story lines, so it’s a win-win. The plight that Alex is on to find out who killed his wife is a dangerous one, but what’s even more dangerous is the number of crimes he’s been working to stop in the meantime. Working with Mr. Johnson and Cassandra is a very intimidating job for most, but Alex seems to have taken to it well, although I wouldn’t trust Mr. Johnson very much if I were Alex. Mr. Johnson offered to help Alex find out what happened to his wife, but I don’t believe he’s in it to help but to cover up everything Alex finds – for example, last episode when he broke into Alex’s and knocked out Alex’s hacker buddy, who he’d left to look into an SD card that Ginny hid in a picture.

Meanwhile last episode, Alex was also brought in to try to stop a sniper from killing anymore people, with a total count at 3 so far. The investigation led them to a group of men who had taken some money while on vacation in Mexico. Turns out the dead men they took the money from were cartel, and now the cartel was seeking revenge. Alex managed to save Bob and his son Jake, as well as kill the sniper, but Mr. Johnson had to step in and offer the cartel money to keep them away from Alex. The FBI is also running an off-the-books investigation because Alex’s behavior matches a few others who have mysteriously disappeared after their change in activity. They’ve asked Alex’s detective friend to look into it. I hope Mr. Johnson doesn’t catch wind of this, because I would hate to see someone else close to Alex murdered.

On tonight’s episode, “The Big Blind,” Det. Brown uncovers the truth about a hit man and in turn arrests Alex’s client. Alex continues to look for clues regarding Ginny’s murder with the help of Mr. Johnson, but Cassandra is one step ahead of them with her own agenda.

Want to see more of this addictive new drama? Tune in to NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching Bones, Grey’s Anatomy, Sleepy Hollow, Chopped, Scandal, and How to Get Away with Murder.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/1/14

I kind of hate Tuesdays even more than Mondays. On Mondays, I’m typically ready for my family to go back to work or whatever they’re doing. 😉 On Tuesday, though, I can see that it’s still a long ways off from the next weekend, which I hate. *laugh* So yeah. I’m a bit of a mess today. But something that does make me happy are all the great new episodes tonight, so check out our recommendations.

sullivan2012smallLast season on Sullivan & Son, we learned that Steve’s sister, Susan, was married. For the whole first season, I swear we thought she was single, which was why her mom kept harping on her because she’d never find a husband. Either I’m remembering wrong or they changed it up during the second season. Regardless, last week’s premiere definitely pushed the fact that she is definitely married. They were celebrating their anniversary, but she let it slip that he’d never given her an orgasm, so he set out to first kill himself, but then decided to learn how to pleasure her. In the end, Owen let it slip that he’d slept with Susan during high school and had given her many of them. Both Steve and Jason wanted to kill him, but in the end, Steve got to junk-punch Owen and Jason gave Susan a new mini-van AND the big O, so everyone was happy.

Then in the second episode, the gang felt bad when a woman came into the bar and said her husband, Frank, had died and he’d been a fixture in the bar for years and he loved everyone. The guys at the bar tried to scam money from her by pretending to be her husband’s friends and saying he would have wanted them to go to Atlantic City. Ok Cha tried to take her money when she offered to pay for her husband’s bar tab and then tried to charge her for holding a memorial there at the bar. In the end, it turned out Frank hadn’t actually been a regular, that it was the story he’d told his wife while he’d had a 10-year affair. When Steve couldn’t keep the secret anymore, the wife thanked the mistress for making her husband happy, and the gang got nothing. It was a fun two episodes, and I’m looking forward to tonight’s new one.

On tonight’s episode, “About a Boy, His Mother, and the Man They’re Dating,” when Carol reconnects with the handsome Daryl (guest star Charles Shaughnessy), she is suddenly into the idea of having a boyfriend. However, her son Owen also wants a lot of time with Daryl, and now Carol and Owen find themselves fighting over time with the same man. Meanwhile, Ok Cha battles Roy in a spicy food eating contest that captivates the entire bar.

See who wins (both the man and the eating contest) tonight on TBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Got Talent, Next Great Baker, Rizzoli & Isles, Royal Pains, Buddy’s Bakery Rescue, & Chopped.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 3/21/13

Tonight kicks off my weekend of video game-related activities. Taking over Boston this weekend is the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX East) Gaming convention, and tonight is Microsoft’s pre-con kick-off party. While I won’t be watching much TV for the next few days, I’ll be recording a bunch of stuff to catch up on on Sunday. So we’ve got some suggestions on what you should set your DVRs to record tonight.

Kyle’s Choice

nathanforyousmallA couple weeks ago, Comedy Central introduced a new faux-documentary comedy called Nathan for You. In the opening credits for the series, Nathan proudly announces that he has a degree from one of Canada’s top business schools, and he wants to put that knowledge to work for you. Each week, Nathan gives marketing advice to small business owners to help them turn their business around, and we see these schemes put it into practice.

The catch is that his marketing campaigns are some of the most unusual (and horrible) advice you could imagine. For example, last week, Nathan saw that all of the restaurants in the area only allowed customers to use their restrooms. So he had one diner advertise themselves as “Your Local Toilet,” allowing everyone to use their bathrooms. His marketing campaign also included video screens in the bathroom stalls that asked “Can you smell that delicious food?” and showed footage of chili being slowly dropped into bowls. Comedian Nathan Fielder is hilarious in his dead-pan delivery of these terrible marketing schemes.

On tonight’s episode, “Gas Station/Caricature Artist,” Nathan Fielder puts his degree in business and life experiences to use to help small businesses, devising the world’s greatest rebate program to help an independent gas station and trying to bring fame and fortune to a fledgling caricature artist.

See the outrageous funny tonight on Comedy Central at 10:30/9:30c. Learn where to find episodes online of Nathan for You @ TV.com.

I’ll also be recording Grey’s Anatomy, Community, 1600 Penn, Glee, Archer, and Legit.
