Bring the FunnyI loved Last Comic Standing, so when I heard about the new comedy competition, Bring the Funny, I was thrilled, especially when I learned that Jeff Foxworthy, Kenan Thompson, & Chrissy Teigen are involved as judges. Hosted by comedian Amanda Seales, the show is search for the funniest comedy act. Throughout the competition, the best of the best stand-ups, sketch troupes, and comedic variety acts, from solo comics to musicians, magicians, podcasters, puppeteers, YouTubers, and more…anyone who can make audiences laugh will have the chance to receive the career-changing $250,000 prize package and see their name in lights in the “Bring the Funny” showcase.

On tonight’s episode, “The Open Mic 1,” sketch, variety, and stand-up comedy acts from all over the world give it their all to impress the judges and make it to the next round of the competition in hopes of ultimately winning the $250,000 grand prize.

See if the acts make you laugh tonight on NBC at 10:01/9:01c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Got Talent, Chopped Junior, Chopped, & Sweet Home Sextuplets.

Tonight, one of my favorite comedies, The Detour, returns for its fourth season on TBS. Last season, the Parker family headed to Alaska and assumed fake identities to hide from the authorities, but as usual, they managed to mess things up and went back on the run. Meanwhile, the somewhat crazy Edie had been stalking Nate after she secretly impregnated herself with his sperm. It turns out that Edie also happened to be a long-lost sister of Robin’s. (How is she going to react when she finds out that her husband is the father of her niece/nephew?!) In the season finale, the family ended up in an abandoned ghost town filled with LARPers. Delilah used this distraction to exact a plan she had apparently been laying the groundwork for all season. She ran away, stealing her family’s money and a car from an admirer, leaving a message for the rest of her family, requesting that they not look for her.

The new season picks up several months later, with Nate, Robin, and Jared amidst their world-wide search for Delilah. What I love about this show is its blend of physical comedy and deliciously inappropriate humor. This show doesn’t worry about being PC and goes places that many comedies would shy away from. The Parkers are constantly getting into ridiculously awkward situations, and as they try to get out of them, they only succeed in making things ten times worse. Even if they are trying to do the right thing, there is always some sort of misunderstanding or unintended consequences to their actions. I can’t wait to see where the search for Delilah leads the Parkers this season and what kind of craziness they cause in the process. I checked out the first two episodes, and the show is just as wild and insane as ever. Just when you think they can’t top the previous season, they somehow manage to do so!

On tonight’s premiere, “The Search,” the Parkers embark on a world-wide search to find their runaway daughter, Delilah.

Find out how the season starts tonight on TBS at 10:30/9:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Blood & Treasure, The 100, Animal Kingdom, and Chrisley Knows Best.

I’m super excited because another favorite game show that I used to watch reruns of all the time, Press Your Luck, is premiering tonight! If you don’t know this one, this game show’s contestants answer questions to earn spins and then use those spins on the “Big Board,” to win cash and other prizes. Unfortunately, the “WHAMMY” can get them. I don’t know how they’ll handle it now, but at least back in the day, the whammies were these cute little…elf-like creatures dressed in various costumes that walked across the TV screen and stole all the money if a contestant landed on them.

Elizabeth Banks is the new host. She’s been in a lot of things, but for me she’s most notably from Scrubs. I hope she’ll be a fun host and that they kept all the fun Whammies in their silly costumes and actions. I’ll definitely be tuning in!

Don’t miss tonight’s premiere on ABC at 10/9c**.

**Unless you’re like me in the Kansas City area, which won’t get to see it until midnight, due to the KC mayoral debate. Boo! LOL

I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Got Talent, Chopped, Blood & Treasure, Sweet Home Sextuplets, & Songland.

My pick tonight is NBC’s newest drama, The Inbetween. Relative newcomer Harriet Dyer plays Cassie Bedford, a young woman who was born with the rare ability of visions, events that have already occurred or ones that will happen in the future. She also can see and communicate with ghosts. Her father is Detective Tom Hackett, played by the sexy and talented Paul Blackthorne (Arrow & The Dresden Files to name a couple of his latest and most famous roles). When he and his new partner, former FBI Agent Damien Asante (Justin Cornwell, I am the Night on TNT and CBS’s Training Day), need help solving a dark and twisty murder, Cassie agrees (albeit reluctantly) to help. Unfortunately, once she opens that door, the dead don’t want to let her rest.

I’ve seen the first couple of episodes and really enjoyed it. Cassie’s ability is nothing earth-shatteringly new, but it’s still creepy and spooky and all things ghostly. This show has been in the works for quite a while, and I don’t know that NBC has been advertising it much (although I don’t watch a lot of stuff on NBC right now, so maybe they have?), but I’d suggest giving it a shot because at least the first two episodes are really great.

On tonight’s premiere, “Pilot,” Cassie helps her father and his partner solve a young woman’s murder using her unique psychic powers. She also encounters a supernatural spirit, Ed Roven (recurring guest star, Sean Bolger), whose evil transcends time.

See how Cassie’s visions help solve the murder tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Amazing Race, American Ninja Warrior, MasterChef, Dinner Takes All, Guy’s Grocery Games, The Hot Zone, Best Room Wins, & The Butcher.

My pick tonight is a twist on the songster reality competition show, Songland. Instead of singers, this time the contestants will be competing to be the top song writer. Each week, one guest artist (including Charlie Puth, Meghan Trainor, Kelsea Ballerini, Macklemore, will.i.am, & more!) will visit “Songland” to hear unknown songwriters pitch their original material. Four songwriters will perform their original tracks in front of the guest artist and three big-time producers in music: Ryan Tedder, the lead singer of OneRepublic and a four-time Grammy Award-winning songwriter and producer for Adele, Taylor Swift, and Beyoncé; Ester Dean, a Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer for Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Nicki Minaj, as well as an actress who starred in the Pitch Perfect film franchise; and Shane McAnally, a Grammy-winning songwriter and producer for Kacey Musgraves, Kelly Clarkson, and Sam Hunt, who has 38 #1 country records and was named the 2019 ACM Songwriter of the Year.

Each song’s lyrics, arrangements, beats, melody, and story will be considered by the panel as the producers and guest artist engage in a lively discussion about ways to creatively adapt them to better fit the style and sensibility of the recording artist of the week. After the performances, the guest artist will choose three songwriters to move forward to the studio and pair each songwriter with the producer best suited to perfecting their songs. In the studio, the songs will take shape in unexpected ways as the songwriter and producer duos work together to win over the recording artist. In the end, a winner will be chosen and their song will be recorded and released for a global audience. What a fun twist to the other music competition shows, yeah?

On tonight’s episode, “John Legend,” undiscovered songwriters are put center stage as they pitch their original material to mega-star John Legend and a panel of chart-topping music producers.

Check out this fun new show tonight on NBC at 10:01/9:01c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Jeff Dunham: Talking Heads, America’s Got Talent, MasterChef Junior, Chopped, The Hot Zone, Jeff Foxworthy: Stand-up Guy, Blood & Treasure, & Sweet Home Sextuplets.
