Late tonight (early Friday morning), Amazon is putting up the entire first season of Absentia, starring Stana Katic (Castle). Katic plays FBI Agent Emily Byrne, who disappeared while hunting one of Boston’s most notorious serial killers and was later declared dead. Six years later, she’s found in a cabin in the woods, barely alive, and with no memory of her missing years. In the meantime, her husband has remarried. Not only that, but she finds herself implicated in a new series of murders. Patrick Heusinger (Jack Reacher: Never Go Back) plays her husband Nick, another FBI agent who struggles with guilt that he stopped looking for Emily. And now he’s supposed to bring her in for the new murders. Wanting to prove her innocence, Emily goes on the run, but she ends up putting herself and her family in even more danger. The show also stars Cara Theobold (Downton Abbey), Neil Jackson (Sleepy Hollow), Angel Bonanni (False Flag), Richard Brake (Game of Thrones), Ralph Ineson (Game of Thrones), Paul Freeman (The Dogs of War), Bruno Bichir (Narcos), and Patrick McAuley (The Conjuring 2).

This may be too much of a drama for me, but I want to support Stana Katic in her first big project after Castle, especially after the way ABC treated her by firing her at the end of (what turned out to be) the final season. And the fact that Patrick Heusinger is quite good-looking doesn’t hurt! LOL

Check out the entire first season on Amazon late tonight/early Friday morning.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Big Bang Theory, Top Chef, Will & Grace, A.P. Bio, Beat Bobby Flay, Chicago Fire, Impractical Jokers, & S.W.A.T..

Last Wednesday, Pop premiered the new comedy Let’s Get Physical. Joe Force (Matt Jones, Breaking Bad, Mom) wasn’t always an overweight slacker, barely making a living as the lead singer of a Guns and Roses cover band. Decades earlier, Joe was the favorite to win the Fifth Annual Aerobics Competition, where his overbearing coach/father Colonel Force – a fitness mogul known as the “Godfather of Aerobics” – told him to win or don’t bother coming home. Joe messed up his routine, losing both the competition and his high school girlfriend Claudia (AnnaLynne McCord, Secrets & Lies, 90210) to rival Barry Cross (Chris Diamantopoulos, Silicon Valley). Joe never did go home after that, until the present day, when his father unexpectedly passes away. In his video will, the Colonel tells Joe that he wants him to man up. He leaves Joe his gym, with the stipulation that his $8 million inheritance will be awarded to the winning gym in the next competitive aerobics championship. Joe contemplates selling the gym and moving on, but after reuniting with the obnoxious Barry & Claudia Cross, he decides to enter the competition. So, with help from his mother, former pageant queen Janet (Jane Seymour, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman), Joe starts recruiting a ragtag group of “athletes” to join his team.

I really enjoyed last week’s premiere. The series feels very reminiscent of those films that were prevalent in the 80s, where an underdog team of out-of-shape misfits train to take on the physically fit current champions, who work like a well-oiled machine. I have always loved those movies and look forward to seeing how that kind of story can be told across a longer season of television. Matt Jones and Jane Seymour are hilarious and play well off one another, and Chris Diamantopoulos is also great as the villain you love to hate and look forward to seeing get taken down a peg. This show is an excellent companion for Schitt’s Creek for a solid hour of laughs on Pop. If you missed last week’s premiere, you can find it on On Demand or on Pop’s website.

On tonight’s episode, “The Dancing Criminals,” Joe and Janet craft a plan to win the championship; Joe continues to hang out with his loser band mates; Joe and Janet audition dancers for the Fitness by Force team, while Barry and Claudia begin recruiting dancers for their team.

Learn the plan Joe and Janet come up with tonight on Pop at 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Match Game, The Amazing Race, The Blacklist, The X-Files, 9-1-1, Riverdale, American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace, Schitt’s Creek, Waco, The Magicians, and Happy!.

A couple months ago, HBO and director Stephen Soderbergh teamed up to produce the Mosaic app, which provides a unique interactive story experience on iOS and Android devices. The mobile app allows users to interact with the cinematic murder mystery by selecting which character’s perspective to follow at various points in the story. Soderbergh has now taken the footage that was shot for this joint venture and has edited it into a more traditional, linear TV format. The 6-part Mosaic limited series will air on HBO across the next five nights.

The psychological thriller tells a story of love and murder in a small town, where each character has his or her own version of the events to tell. As the series opens, popular children’s book author/illustrator Olivia Lake (Sharon Stone, Agent X, Basic Instinct) crosses paths with potential suitor Eric (Frederick Weller, Banshee, In Plain Sight) and handyman/aspiring artist Joel (Garrett Hedlund, TRON: Legacy). The series also stars Jennifer Ferrin (Time After Time, Falling Water), Beau Bridges (Bloodline), Paul Reubens (aka Pee-wee Herman), Devin Ratray (The Tick), James Ransone (Bosch), Jeremy Bobb (Godless, The Knick), Michael Cerveris (Gotham, Fringe), and Maya Kazan (Sleepy Hollow, The Knick).

I was a huge fan of Soderbergh’s previous cable series, The Knick, and so I’m really looking forward to seeing his latest work. Mosaic has a stellar cast, and I’m always down for a good murder mystery! I have already set my season pass to check out this limited series.

On tonight’s premiere, “Meet Olivia Lake,” children’s author Olivia Lake attends a lavish party, during which she notices handsome bartender Joel and offers him a place to live; wealthy financier Michael O’Connor enlists a con man to convince Olivia to sell her picturesque property.

Catch the series premiere tonight on HBO at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Good Doctor, Better Late Than Never, The Resident, Supergirl, and The Alienist.

Last week, we finally saw the resolution to the winter finale on The Brave, when Jaz was captured by the bad guys at the hotel in Tehran. Of course the team didn’t abandon her. They figured out where she was being held, but because there was no way to get in to get her, they decided to have Patricia leak the fact that Jaz was indeed a US spy. Then when the bad guys moved her to where they would publicly execute her, the team stopped the van, killed the bad guys, and rescued Jaz. Unfortunately, when the border crossing they thought would be empty was actually heavily guarded, Hossein sacrificed himself, thereby letting the team cross safely.

Patricia is in big trouble… It’s quite illegal to give out the names of US operatives, and even though she did it to save Jaz, and it did exactly what they’d hoped, she’s still in trouble. I haven’t heard about Anne Heche leaving the show, though, so she can’t be out that long… Of course, the show has only been given 13 episodes, meaning tonight’s plus two more, so there isn’t much left for her to be in or out of unless they renew it for season two, which we’re still waiting to hear. This is such a great, fun show, and it needs all the eyeballs it can get, so please, please tune in tonight, and share the word!

On tonight’s episode, “Grounded,” with Patricia out of commission, Noah is at the helm of the D.I.A. when FARC revolutionaries take control of a flight in Colombia. When negotiations mean life or death for the passengers on board, Hannah must make her return to the field.

See how it goes with Noah in charge and Hannah back in the field tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Man With a Plan, Kids Baking Championship, Superior Donuts, 9JKL, & Scorpion.

Tonight, Superstore kicks off a fun 2-hour comedy block on NBC. On last week’s episode, the Cloud 9 employees became obsessed with Kelly’s viral video, but Amy couldn’t understand why. However, once she discovered that Kelly and Jonah were dating, she set out to make her own video and prove she was just as likable as Kelly. While she ultimately did manage to create a viral video, it was only because of what was accidentally revealed in the background: a rat infestation in the kitchen. Meanwhile, Mateo learned that there was a referral bonus for signing up new customers for a Cloud 9 card and started to create fake accounts. Glenn caught on and confronted Mateo, but he kept denying it, digging the hole deeper and deeper as he desperately tried to prove one of his fake customers was real. Ultimately, Mateo confessed and agreed to let Glenn baptize him. Finally, Dina enlisted Cheyenne to help her dig into the other employees’ social media accounts, looking for inappropriate material.

This show always finds fun new ways to use this talented ensemble cast by pairing up different characters and exploring different dynamics each week. I always have a great time and laugh out loud while watching this show! That said, while Jonah and Kelly make a pretty fun couple, I’m starting to tire of the will they or won’t they between Jonah and Amy. Now that her divorce is complete, it’s time to get those two together!

On tonight’s episode, “Golden Globes Party,” when Amy throws a party to prove how great she’s doing post-divorce, she’s forced to enlist Dina and Jonah’s help, and Dina ends up making the ultimate sacrifice. Meanwhile, Glenn and his wife Jerusha are forced to conduct some personal business at Amy’s home.

To see what sacrifice Dina makes, tune in to NBC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching Truth and Lies: The Tonya Harding Story, The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, Life in Pieces, The Good Place, and Will & Grace.
