Jenny’s Choice

I’m enjoying the new season of S.W.A.T.. Last week was a good one… The new Lt. Lynch really fumbled the ball when she spoke signed SWAT up for an undercover operation and went to the team with it first before even speaking with Hicks. Not only that, but she talked with and gave the mayor all the details as well, which is a no-no for Hicks. Fortunately, when Chris and Street went undercover in a counterfeit money op to take down (again) a local gang, things went as good as can be expected. No one was hurt, although it looked shaky for a minute, and they were able to nab all the bad guys and get all the counterfeit money before it could be distributed. But the whole thing left a bad taste in Hicks’s and Hondo’s mouths about Lt. Lynch.

On the personal side of things, Hondo’s parents were still at odds (no surprise, really), but Hondo convinced his mom to come out to the car show for both Daryl and Hondo himself, not for his dad. She did, and I could tell it meant a lot to Daryl to have her there, since he’d worked hard helping Hondo’s dad with his car. We’re still wondering what Senior’s health issue is, since he coughed up blood a couple of episodes ago. When will we (and more importantly, Hondo) find out? Gotta be something serious, I’m guessing… As for the not-so-serious, Chris helped smooth the way for Street and Molly Hicks, even though she didn’t look entirely happy about it. She’s trying so hard to be happy with Kira and Ty, but obviously she has some feelings for Street. I want her to be happy with them. I love that odd relationship. I don’t want her with Street, simply because on this show, they won’t keep them together (I mean, look at how it went with Hondo & Jessica…). Guess we’ll see…

On tonight’s episode, “Immunity,” Deacon’s family gets caught in the crosshairs of a drug cartel when he and the SWAT team aim to bring down its leader, a former foreign rebel force leader running drugs in plain sight via a local flower market. Also, Hondo receives troubling news regarding his father, and Tan is forced to go before an internal review board due to his girlfriend’s indiscretion.

See if Deacon can protect his family tonight on CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching Limetown, Chicago Med, The Goldbergs, Schooled, Chicago Fire, Guy’s Grocery Games, Nancy Drew, SEAL Team, Single Parents, & Chicago PD.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/16/19

Jenny’s Choice

It’s time for another big #OneChicago crossover event, and I couldn’t be more excited. There’s no need to do much of a recap, since I doubt any of the continuing story lines for each show will follow up this week, but there were some highlights. On Chicago Med, by the end of the episode, Maggie had given up the pretense of being okay. Looks like she’s going to move her treatments there to Med instead of across town, and she’s going to train April to do her job. She still isn’t telling anyone, but it’s a step in the right direction. Speaking of April… She & Dr. Marcel kind of got into it about a patient, but April found out at the end that Marcel hadn’t exactly done what she’d thought, so now she’s okay working with him – I hope he doesn’t come between her & Ethan, not when they’re in such a good place finally. And finally, Will & Natalie…& unfortunately Phillip. Natalie makes a mistake about a patient, and the parents ask for a new doctor for their son. Will takes over and tells her he’ll be overseeing all her cases until he’s sure she’s back to 100%. She thinks he’s punishing her for Phillip, and he kinda is. Not punishing, really, just not trusting either of them – Phillip because he’s a psychopath and Natalie because she’s suffering from the TBI and crazypants Phillips.

On Chicago Fire, the biggest story line was Brett and Foster treating a boy at a juvenile detention center who they believed to have been set up by a guard. And they were right. In the process of that, they met a cute young social worker, and he & Brett hit it off. The other big story lines were: 1) Mouch & Trudy going in together to buy in to Molly’s with Hermann. It was pretty heartwarming; 2) Boden chose Kidd to represent the district at a leadership conference, which shocked the heck out of her. She’ll kick ass, though, as she always does; And 3) Casey kind of hit it off with one of the reps who installed some new tech at the firehouse, but she was pretty wackadoodle. LOL

Finally, on Chicago PD, a botched carjacking turned out to be much more, involving a female drug kingpin who only worked with young women. Unfortunately for those young women, when one of them displeased her, she killed them (or had them killed). Newbie Vanessa Rojas struggled to fit in with Intelligence but eventually helped take the woman down.

And that brings us to this week. Crossovers can be hit or miss, but I think this one’s going to be a hit. From everything I’ve read, it seems like it’s truly going to be a crossover, with many characters from each show appearing in all the episodes, not just one or two in one of the other episodes. And they’re switch things up so that Chicago Fire is up first, followed by Med and then PD to bring up the rear as always.

On tonight’s episode of Chicago Fire, “Infection Part I,” a rare but deadly bacteria takes its toll on numerous victims around the city, leaving Chicago’s finest first responders to work together alongside the CDC to resolve the dangerous situation. Following a fire at a local university that ties into the outbreak, Severide has suspicions that something bigger is happening.

Then on tonight’s episode of Chicago Med, “Infection Part II,” an entire apartment complex is forced into quarantine when cases of the deadly virus turns into an epidemic. P.D. chases a lead that could point to a case of bioterrorism and Will gets dangerously close to the suspect.

And finally on tonight’s episode of Chicago PD, “Infection Part III,” a fter zeroing in on the suspect responsible for the bioterrorism that’s gripping Chicago, the PD prepares to undertake their biggest manhunt yet. Upton is torn between helping track down the perp and providing emotional support to the scared young girl that needs her. Voight fears his team is being sent on a wild goose chase.

Don’t miss the exciting “zombie apocalypse” crossover event tonight on NBC starting at 8/7c.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/15/19

I’m so freaking excited about this premiere – one of the shows I’ve been most excited about this new season. Based on the Jason Bourne books by Robert Ludlum and the movie franchise, Treadstone is an action-packed thriller set amidst the CIA black ops program Operation Treadstone. For those who’ve seen the movies, Treadstone is the program that turned Jason Bourne into…well, Jason Bourne. The show explores the origin story and present-day actions of the infamous covert program that uses behavior modification protocol to turn recruits into nearly superhuman assassins. It follows sleeper agents across the globe as they’re mysteriously “awakened” to resume their deadly missions.

The show stars Brian J. Smith (Sense8, Stargate Universe), Michael Gaston (Blind Justice, The Leftovers, Strange Angel, Unforgettable), Michelle Forbes (Wonderland, Snitch, The Killing, Berlin Station), Omar Metwally (Line of Sight, Virtuality), Patrick Fugit (Outcast, Reckless), Tracy Ifeachor (Quantico, The Originals, Crossbones), Tess Haubrich (Pine Gap), Emilia Schule (Berlin Station), Gabrielle Scharnitzky, Hyo Joo Han, Jeremy Irvine, & Shruti Haasan. Treadstone was developed by and executive produced by Tim Kring (Heroes, Touch, Crossing Jordan).

The show should be completely full of action and intrigue, I’m hoping like a 1-hour movie each week. Woohoo! So can’t wait for this one!

On tonight’s episode, “The Cicada Protocol,” superhuman assassins created during a covert operation are reactivated to resume their deadly missions.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/10/19

Kyle’s Choice

On last week’s episode of Superstore, Mateo’s lawyer was at Cloud 9 collecting testimonials for Mateo’s bond hearing, but most of the statements about how wild and fun he could be would probably do him more harm than good. So Amy tried to get the co-workers to embellish, making Mateo sound more kind and generous, but this also backfired. Eventually, she and Cheyenne tracked down Jeff and used an old photo to manipulate his emotions and get him to agree to making a statement about how he heard the company execs illegally ordering the ICE raid. Meanwhile, Sandra was convinced that Dina was throwing her a bachelorette party, despite the fact that she kept adamantly denying it, since it wasn’t part of her official Maid of Honor job responsibilities as defined on the internet. Jonah felt bad and enlisted Garrett’s help in throwing a party. However, once Dina found out, she was upset, accused them of trying to make her look bad, and reluctantly agreed to throw the party…but having Sandra be responsible for most of her own party. At the same time, Jerry awkwardly asked Garrett to be his Best Man, even though the two hardly knew one another. When it came time for the party, Sandra was once again overshadowed – her party had been re-purposed into a celebration of the fact that Mateo had been released on bond.

Last week, there were once again stirrings of unionization, and with Jeff preparing a statement about the ICE raid, it looks like we are gearing up for an employee mutiny this season. The show does a great job of mixing in these more serious topics while also keeping things funny. I have my doubts that Sandra will ever actually get her wedding day, but I’m hoping that something finally works out for her!

On tonight’s episode, “Forced Hire,” when Amy hires Dina’s nemesis Colleen, Dina blackmails Garrett into making Colleen’s life a living hell; Jonah is forced to befriend Marcus to unionize the warehouse guys.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/2/19

Kyle’s Choice

Tonight, FOX kicks off the new drama Almost Family, the latest series from executive producer Jason Katims (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood) and writer Annie Weisman (About A Boy, Desperate Housewives). Julia Bechley (Brittany Snow, Pitch Perfect) has grown up as the only child of renowned fertility doctor Leon Benchley (Timothy Hutton, American Crime, Leverage)…at least that’s what she believed. Julia’s world is about to come crashing down when it’s discovered that her father used his own sperm to help over 100 women become pregnant. Being his partner in the clinic, Julia now has to deal with the fallout, both emotionally and legally.

As Julia deals with her father’s betrayal and starts to explore the breadth of the incident, she is upset to discover that one of her potential siblings is former best friend, now lawyer, Edie Palmer (Megalyn Echikunwoke, The Following, 90210) – the two had a falling out when Edie stole and married the guy Julia loved. Another one of the potential “Benchley Babies” is former Olympic athlete Roxy Doyle (Emily Osment, The Kominsky Method, Young & Hungry), who wouldn’t be that upset to discover that the parents who are still trying to make money off of her former glory might not be her real parents. For better or for worse, this unusual situation has brought these sisters together. They’ve started to form a bond and will be the ones to help one another weather the storm of their forever-changed lives. And this nontraditional family will likely grow as additional siblings come out of the woodwork.

I quite enjoyed tonight’s premiere – this series has a really great cast. In addition to establishing the main premise of the series, the first episode also sets up some other interesting storylines and character dynamics to explore. It doesn’t make light of this serious situation – it seems like Leon isn’t going to just get a slap on the wrist – but the episode does have some really fun moments. I look forward to seeing more of the fallout of this scandal and how the characters deal with it.

On tonight’s premiere, “Pilot,” only child Julia finds her life turned upside-down when her father makes a startling revelation.
