NCIS: Hawai’i Season 1 DVD Review

Like SEAL Team, I’m a big fan of the NCIS franchise, and I was pleased when the newest, NCIS: Hawai’i premiered last season. Vanessa Lachey stars as Jane Tennant, the first female Special Agent in charge of NCIS Pearl Harbor, who has thrived and risen through the ranks by equal parts confidence and strategy in a system that has pushed back on her every step of the way. Her team is a skilled mix of mainland transplants and includes field agents Kai Holman (Alex Tarrant), Jesse Boone (Noah Mills), and Lucy Tara (Yasmine Al-Bustami), as well as tech specialist Ernie Malik (Jason Antoon). Together, they balance duty to family and country, while investigating high-stakes crimes involving military personnel, national security, and the mysteries of the sun-drenched island paradise itself. FBI Agent Kate Whistler (Tori Anderson) and Jane’s son Alex (Kian Talan) also play prominently throughout the season.

The DVD includes both parts of a special crossover, beginning with “Starting Over” in NCIS and concluding with “T’N’T” in NCIS: Hawai’i, where guest stars Wilmer Valderrama and Katrina Law pay a visit to Hawai’i.

The action-packed DVD includes all 22 episodes, a gag reel (yay!), deleted/extended scenes, and 4 featurettes:

Ohana: Celebrating Season 1
A fascinating peek into the world of making a television series in paradise, alongside front-row access as the traditional Hawaiian blessing is given to the series, the featurette provides an insider’s look at the show. The cast and producers talk about how the series came together, searching for the cast, and how it stands out from other shows in the NCIS franchise.

Island Wear
Costume Designer Luke Reichle provides a remarkable tour of the costume department, filled with a variety of styles, from traditional Hawaiian clothing to police and military wear and modern wardrobe. The behind-the-curtain view also follows Reichle as he explains how each actors’ outfits establish their on-screen personalities.

Creating Paradise
Join Production Designer Andrew Bernard and Set Decorator Carrie Stewart as they discuss creating the memorable sets for the show with the help of their staff and producers.

Torres and Tennant
Everyone loves a good story, especially when it brings together the characters from two hit series, like NCIS & NCIS: Hawai’i. Further explore the major crossover event where Nick Torres and Jessica Knight find themselves in Hawai’i helping Jane Tennent and her team solve an unsolved crime.

Season 2 recently started, so you don’t have any time to waste in catching up on season 1 now on Amazon.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/3/22

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Jenny’s Choice

I’m really enjoying the new season of NCIS: Hawai’i. Granted, it’s only been one episode aside from the premiere, but last week’s ep was pretty good. The team had to learn more about illegal street racing when a Marine staff sergeant’s body was found in a car being crushed in a junkyard. The killer turned out to be what felt like (to me, at least) the least likely suspect. On a personal note, Tennant knew her son was hiding something, and it turned out he was—a new girlfriend. It was the first time he hadn’t come to her with that kind of news, and she realized she would just have to be patient. Also, Whistler was ready to introduce Lucy to her coworkers, but when her boss assumed that Whistler’s partner was a male, she worried how they’d take the news that he was a she. Turned out she didn’t need to worry. Lucy and their relationship were welcomed with open arms at the company picnic.

On tonight’s episode, “Stolen Valor,” Tennant and the NCIS team suspect foul play when they investigate a fatal car crash involving a Navy officer who turns out to be an imposter. Also, Whistler finds herself in danger when she goes undercover to learn the truth behind the accident.

To see if Whistler comes out unscathed, tune in to CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching Dancing with the Stars, Bob Hearts Abishola, Halloween Baking Championship, NCIS, Halloween Cookie Challenge, & Quantum Leap.
