Tonight, after 7 seasons, the FOX comedy New Girl finally comes to an end. Last week, Winston was anxious about becoming a father, so Jess tracked down his long-lost dad. However, after Winston bonded with this stranger, it turned out that Jess had found the wrong person. Meanwhile, Schmidt tried to go back to work, but being away from Ruth was not easy, and Cece realized just how much of a help Schmidt was at home. And Nick had his proposal all set, but his plans got messed up when he and Jess got a new dog. However, in the end, Nick realized that the situation was never going to be perfect and just went for it, proposing to Jess during an outdoor showing of an 80s rom-com in the park.

The series comes to a close with a really satisfying 1-hour finale. The first half of the finale gives us the wedding that’s been seven seasons in the making, but of course, things don’t quite go as planned, and madness and hilarity ensues. And in the final episode, the series takes a fun trip down memory lane, making lots of callbacks that longtime viewers will really appreciate. Many familiar faces also pop up for cameos during tonight’s two episodes. While I initially thought last year’s season finale did a decent job of wrapping up the show, I’m really happy that we got these extra eight episodes to give the series a proper ending. Tonight’s finale is a gift to the longtime fans, giving a fun and satisfying conclusion to the series as well as a glimpse into what lies ahead for Jess and her former loft-mates.

On tonight’s episode, “The Curse of the Pirate Bride; Engram Pattersky,” Jess and Nick make life-changing decisions; Winston and Aly’s big day arrives; the gang takes a trip down memory lane.

Find out how the series ends tonight on FOX at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Middle, black-ish, Rise, MasterChef: Junior, The Flash, The 100, Legion, and Chrisley Knows Best.

Tonight, New Girl returns to FOX to kick off its final season. I was surprised when the series was picked up for this final season, because I thought the sixth season did a nice job of providing a season finale that worked well as a series finale. As the sixth season came to a close, we finally learned that Schmidt’s real name is Winston. Also, Schmidt and Cece discovered that they were going to have a baby. Nick found a publisher for his book, “The Pepperwood Chronicles.” And after a few more near-misses, Jess and Nick finally proclaimed their love for one another, kissing in the elevator of their apartment building.

The new season picks up about three years later, on the day of Schmidt and Cece’s daughter’s third birthday. Jess and Nick have been away on a European book tour and haven’t seen their friends for the past six months. Meanwhile, Aly is seven months pregnant with her and Winston’s first child. I really enjoyed tonight’s premiere – it was great to get to spend more time with these characters and get a glimpse into their future. The show feels the same in many ways but also gets a bit of a reboot with the time jump (and with a coupe of the characters’ appearances). I look forward to seeing how the show comes to an end, what lies ahead for these characters, and what characters from the past will pop in for a final guest appearance.

On tonight’s episode, “About Three Years Later,” Jess and Nick return from a European book tour; Schmidt and Cece celebrate their daughter’s birthday with a party, where Jess runs into her ex; Winston and Aly try to pick a pregnancy photo.

Catch up with this group of friends tonight on FOX at 9:30/8:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Middle, black-ish, For the People, Rise, LA to Vegas, The Flash, Black Lightning, Legion, and The Last O.G..

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/16/14

Can I just say that I LOVE shopping with other people’s money? *laugh* A group I belong to on Facebook has adopted a troop and a platoon of Army soldiers overseas, and I’ve been collecting donations and letters from them to buy things to put in a care package for each group of soldiers. It’s been a lot of fun. 🙂 But moving on to TV, tonight’s another great night, so we have some recommendations for what you should watch. Check them out!

americasgottalent2013smallMy pick tonight is the last performances episode this season of America’s Got Talent. Last week, the group was narrowed down to the final 6, and while it’s not my perfect six, I’m a big fan of several of the remaining acts. My top pick is Mat Franco, the cutey patootie magician. He’s really amazing, and his personality just shines every time he gets on stage (or off stage, as the case may be, since most of—if not all of—his acts take place down at the judges’ table and in the audience. I love watching him every time and could watch him all day. I also love AcroArmy. They’re crazy good at what they do, which is kind of dance combined with gymnastics combined with cheerleading. I love watching them because they have that danger element that doesn’t make me cringe and look away. Sons of Serendip are an amazing musical group, and I’m glad they made it through. I’m not a huge fan of Miguel Dakota, Quintavious Johnson, and Emily West, the remaining three acts, all of whom are singers. They’re all good, yeah, but…something about all of them puts me off. I’d much rather have had the other magic acts & musicians Emil & Dariel. So my fingers are crossed for Mat, and if not him, then AcroArmy or Sons of Serendip!

On tonight’s episode, “Finale Performance,” the Final 6 acts compete one last time live at the legendary Radio City Music Hall for the chance to win one million dollars and be named the most talented act in America.

Check out the last performances of the season on tonight’s two-hour new episode on NBC at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Dancing with the Stars, 19 Kids & Counting, The Jennie Garth Project, Married at First Sight, MasterChef Canada, & Chopped.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/5/13

The weather has been absolutely gorgeous here—even when it’s raining. I love fall. The cool weather is just fantastic. It makes cuddling up and watching TV a lot of fun. Check out our recommendations for tonight!

thegoldbergs115smallLast week’s The Goldbergs was cute, as every episode has been. I really love this show. Barry dressed as the Hulk to go to a Halloween party so he could ask out his crush—a girl who had modeled in a magazine… Needless to say, it didn’t go well. It wouldn’t have gone well even if his overbearing but loving mother hadn’t shown up, posing as a ghost under a sheet, to “sell” her son to the girl. When Barry realized it was her and that she was calling him delicious over and over, he freaked and ran out of the party. His sister, who’d been looking forward to watching him get laughed at, felt bad when it wasn’t nearly as fun as she’d expected. She went after him and they made a pact that they would stick together against their mother. Meanwhile, Adam dressed up as a Rubik’s cube, which was adorable, but when he chose to go out with his new “friends,” he expected to be trick-or-treating. Instead, they went egging, including Adam’s own house, which is when he got caught. He ended up going out as a Ghostbuster with his grandpa. It was cute. 🙂

On tonight’s episode, “Call Me When You Get There,” when Barry receives his first driver’s license, Beverly lays out the rules about using the car, including the most important: “Call me when you get there!” After Barry disobeys his mother and gets in trouble, he takes Erica’s advice to not tell the truth about his whereabouts—no matter where he is—the next time he calls home… but it backfires.

Find out how much trouble Barry’s in tonight on ABC at 9:01/8:01c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., NCIS, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Little People, Big World, NCIS: LA, Trophy Wife, Chopped, & Person of Interest.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/1/13

Welcome to October! Let’s hope this month is filled with beautiful fall days and lots of mini chocolate bars. I’m also looking forward to even more series and season premieres this month as well. Let’s see what’s on tonight to start this month off right.

Megan’s Choice

ncisla101smallNCIS: LA is by far my favorite of the franchise, and what a season premiere it had last week. I was on the edge of my seat watching to see if Deeks was going to be okay and if Sam could save his wife. In the end, everyone except the bad guys lived, but whether they’re okay is another story. Deeks has lasting effects from the torture, and I’m not sure he’ll ever be the same. I was really sad to see him be so distant from Kensi, but I hope it all works out soon.

On tonight’s episode, “Impact,” Hetty calls in psychologist Nate Getz (guest star Peter Cambor) to help Sam and Deeks deal with the effects of their traumatic experience.

To see if the boys can get back on track, tune in to CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching The Voice, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, NCIS, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., New Girl, The Goldbergs, The Mindy Project, Trophy Wife, Lucky 7, and Person of Interest.
