If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/18/22

Hey hey! Welcome back to the If We Controlled Your Remote… posts! I know it’s been a minute. The last couple of seasons have been crazy weird, but I have high hopes that this season is going to be back to normal. To keep that hope alive, I thought bringing the Remote posts back today to celebrate the start of the new season. Kyle & Megan will be back to join me later this week, so strap in, because here we go!

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

I have been waiting on pins and needles for the SEAL Team season premiere since last season’s finale, and I know I’m not alone. The finale was the most stressful season ender we’ve seen the entire series. It started off great. Jason and Mandy got things back on track, and he even made up with his daughter over her living with her boyfriend. Clay finally got to hold his baby, and he & Stella even got to take Brian home – and with Stella’s help, Clay & Sonny, who had been on the outs, finally made up. Davis learned that the paper she’d written that could have tanked her career actually ended up being a good thing. The only bad thing was Ray learned that the homeless vet he and his family had been helping had died of an overdose, and bad news for fans, Clay told Jason that he was stepping back from Bravo for a while, transferring to the Green Team so he could spend more time with Stella and his son.

The team was then sent back to Mali, and while riding in two vehicles, they were ambushed – and that’s putting it mildly. Jason was shot in the shoulder, and Clay got shrapnel to his eye. QRF was too far away to be any help, and Bravo was getting their butts kicked, having to hide behind the vehicles, and that was most definitely not working.

The kicker? The camera kept panning back and forth between the chaotic battle with Bravo and the baby shower back at home for Stella. The difference between the two scenes was insane. Given that the series hadn’t been picked up at that point, it would have made a horrid series finale! Luckily, it WAS picked up, and tonight we finally get a resolution to the questions surrounding Bravo. Will they all survive? Will all of the explosions and gunfire do more harm to Jason, who is already having the memory issues and everything from his years of combat? I can’t wait to find out!

Don’t miss the season premiere, “Low Impact,” streaming now on Paramount+!

I’m still not feeling great, but I did want to highlight the premiere of
68 Whiskey
tonight on Paramount. This comes from Ron Howard’s Imagine Television Studios and follows a multicultural band of Army medics stationed in Afghanistan on a base nicknamed “The Orphanage.” Together, the medics navigate a dangerous and sometimes absurd world, relying on comradery, various vices and, occasionally, a profound sense of purpose to carry them through. I really like the cast – most especially Beth Riesgraf (Leverage, Lovestruck, Insatiable, Complications) & Derek Theler (Baby Daddy, Marvel’s New Warriors).

It also stars Sam Keeley, Jeremy Tardy (Dear White People, Marvel’s New Warriors), Gage Golightly (Red Oaks, Heartland, The End of the World As We Know It), Cristina Rodlo (Too Old to Die Young), Lamont Thompson (Hell on Earth), Nicholas Coombe (Imaginary Mary), Aaron Glenane (Snowpiercer), Artur Benson, Jade Albany (The Naked Director, The Right Stuff), Linc Hand, & Usman Ally (Lovestruck, On Becoming a God in Central Florida).

This should be a mix of intense drama and irreverent humor, which usually makes for good TV. And I like the premise of the Army medics stationed overseas. I wonder if this will be a bit like a more dramatic version of M.A.S.H. from the 70s, which was set during the Korean War. I didn’t watch that one – I was only born in 1976, and I never did watch reruns – but it was hugely popular. We’ll see if that similar premise goes over well now.

On tonight’s episode, “Buckley’s Goat,” Roback convinces Davis to join him in a get-rich-quick scheme, which lands them in serious trouble; Alvarez gets some upsetting news; Roback and Durkin continue their secret affair; Petrocelli finds a new friend in a lost goat.

Meet these new Army medics and see their temporary home of the Orphanage tonight on Paramount at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching Chicago Med, The Goldbergs, Schooled, Chicago Fire, Criminal Minds, Guy’s Grocery Games, Modern Family, Single Parents, Chicago PD, S.W.A.T., & Stumptown.
