After a 15-month hiatus, Switched at Birth finally returns tonight to kick of the show’s fifth and final season on Freeform. When we last left off, Regina’s love Eric was wanted for a felony, so he fled with his son, leaving Regina once again lonely and alone. Bay was upset to learn that Travis secretly paid an art gallery to give her an art show but was left speechless when Travis kissed her and declared his feelings for her. Daphne and Mingo decided to take a break from one another for the summer as Daphne contemplated a summer internship assisting deaf children in China. John and Kathryn found a buyer for the car wash, but John was upset to learn that Kathryn had resorted to flirtation in order to knock down the price. And Lily went into labor, giving birth to Carlton Summers Kennish. The season finale then jumped ahead ten months to find Bay working as a tattoo artist in China when she receives an urgent call from Daphne, who is working in a nearby clinic, and Bay exclaims that they have to go home.

I’m looking forward to seeing how this final chapter plays out. What were Bay and Daphne doing in China, and what was said on that phone call that has them rushing back home? What is the status of John and Kathryn’s rocky marriage? Will Regina ever find love again? And what about Travis and Mingo? Have they moved on, or are they awaiting the girls’ return?

On tonight’s premiere, “The Call,” Daphne and Bay receive an emergency phone call while in China and return home, where Daphne readjusts to campus life and Bay feels conflicted about her feelings for Emmett. Meanwhile, Kathryn and John argue about her job; and Regina feels guilty about a secret romance.

Find out what sends Daphne and Bay home tonight on Freeform at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Wall, The Mick, Bones, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Face Off, and Teachers.

rizzoliisles310smallI’m really enjoying this second half of season 5 of Rizzoli & Isles. Last week, on the personal side of things, Jane was worried about her mom’s spending habits being out of control now that she had a new job. And with Angela getting three new credit cards and spending quite a bit like she was, I could see why Jane was worried. After Maura (at Jane’s behest) stepped in and tried to talk to Angela about it, Angela busted Maura on her own binge spending. The difference, to me, is that Maura can clearly afford it. She isn’t living beyond her means, even if she does spend way too much shopping for things that do nothing but sit in a closet. Still, in the end, Angela cut up two of the cards, promised that she would be responsible while still splurging every so often, and helped Maura pare down her closeted things. On the case side, Jane and Korsak investigated when a “green” clothing designer was killed. During their investigation, they thought at first that the victim was into something shady, then thought his wife was, but in the end, both of them were innocent. Then they thought they’d found the murderer when they came across the van that had been seen speeding away from the crime scene and a smell was coming from it, but it turned out to be filled with trash a PI had gathered as part of his cases. And that PI turned out to be innocent and actually a big help with not only finding the victim’s killer but getting him to confess. (And of course it turned out to be all about drugs…) I adored the PI because the chemistry between him & Jane was phenomenal. I do hope he comes back!

Next week is the 2-hour season finale, which makes me very sad. 🙁 But it’s already been renewed for season 6, so I’m happy about that! I just wish we didn’t have to wait several months at least for it to come back!

On tonight’s episode, “In Plain View,” after a man is found bludgeoned to death on the side of the road, Jane and the squad team up with another detective who believes he is hunting the same roadside killer. Meanwhile, Maura discovers she has had her identity stolen and recruits Angela to help track down the culprit.

See if Angela can find the identity thief and if the squad can catch the killer tonight on TNT at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Hell’s Kitchen, NCIS, Repeat After Me, 19 Kids & Counting, Married at First Sight: the First Year, NCIS: NOLA, Chicago Fire, Chopped, Restaurant Startup, & Cougar Town.

switchedatbirth2015smallSomehow, Switched at Birth has done the seemingly-impossible—they have made me care about Daphne again! At the end of last season, she had gone off the rails and gotten into drugs. Bay (stupidly) took the fall for her vandalizing so that Daphne wouldn’t have to go jail, and now Bay is stuck wearing an ankle bracelet, doing community service, and had to cancel plans to join Emmett in California. Meanwhile, Daphne is having a hard time at school due to her deafness. Even though she hired a translator, she couldn’t keep up with her study group’s fast-talking, so they bailed on her. However, they had a sudden change of heart after they found out she received advanced notes for the class due to her disability—but since they would both using each other for something, I guess that makes it all okay now.

I find the relationship between Daphne and her translator really interesting, and I hope they explore this more. Why doesn’t this guy just take the chemistry class himself since he’s already there? Why doesn’t he just finish his degree?! Why did he have a breakdown the first time he attended this school, and can he overcome whatever issues he had? And what’s up with this musical Katheryn wants to do? Will she somehow pull Toby into helping her with this project? He’s hardly been in any episodes since the show returned.

On tonight’s episode, “I Lock the Door Upon Myself,” Daphne deals with a prankster in her dorm. Elsewhere, Bay interviews with the Kansas City Artist Showcase; Regina takes a liking to an Easter Riverside coffee house—and its owner; and John ponders his future as he celebrates a big birthday.

To see what the prankster pulls, tune in to ABC Family at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Parks and Recreation, MasterChef: Junior, The Flash, Supernatural, Justified, Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, Cougar Town, Face Off, and Kroll Show.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/8/14

How good was the premiere of The Librarians last night? My family & I really loved watching it together and can’t wait for more. There’s some more great shows on tonight, but since Megan’s modem broke and she’s out until they send her a replacement, it’s just Kyle & me here to give you our opinion on what you should be watching.

mikemolly128smallI was hard on Mike & Molly last season because to me, once Molly quit teaching, she became a whole different person. One of the things that drew me to the show at the beginning was how…solid she was, how responsible and down to earth, especially given how outrageous her family is, as well as Carl. Mike and Molly both helped temper that and even out the craziness. Last season, Molly became like…well, like most (if not all?) of Melissa McCarthy’s movie characters. Don’t get me wrong… I love MM in the movies. But to me, she because as bad or worse than her family in terms of silliness, and it became more about the physical comedy than anything else.

I’ve seen the first couple of episodes to this season, and so far, I think they’ve found a good balance between the physical comedy and the solid, responsible Molly of the earlier seasons. She’s still a little looser, a little zany, but I don’t see every movie character she’s ever done in every second of the show, either. I’m happy so far with the new season, so I’m excited for the season premiere tonight.

On tonight’s episode, “The Book of Molly,” Molly returns home after eight weeks at a writing workshop with great news: she’s getting published and scored a big book advance.

To learn about Molly’s new book, tune in to CBS at 8:31/7:31c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing 2 Broke Girls, The Great Christmas Light Fight, Major Crimes, Scorpion, Mystery Diners, Castle, & NCIS: LA.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/18/14

It was a super busy weekend around my house, including a soccer tournament that ended with a shoot-out in the finals! What an insane amount of running around and sports that drowned my schedule, so I am beyond ready to watch some great television and relax tonight. Let’s see what we’re recommending to help us all unwind after the weekend.

masterchef2014smallMasterChef has been making me sit on the edge of my seat lately in the pressure tests, especially last week. Watching Leslie go through his fifth pressure test (a MasterChef first), was intense because he was going up against Ahran and Victoria in a challenge that involved cooking Santa Barbara Spot Prawns three ways. As if one way wasn’t difficult enough, but three ways? That is definitely a big hurdle when two were being sent home — Leslie’s lucky he has multiple lives… He made it through yet another test. Victoria left with a smile and was very proud of herself, but Ahran had everyone in tears — even Leslie, now that the two have gained some mutual respect for each other. I don’t believe it’s the end of Ahran’s career at all, seeing as she’s so young. That girl is going places for sure.

On tonight’s episode, “Top 8 Compete,” the remaining home cooks will split into four teams of two and prepare a poultry dish, each using different parts of the chicken. The two pairs who most successfully complete their dishes will be safe from elimination, while the two losing pairs will have to face a series of pressure tests with eggs. In each of the three pressure tests, one competing home cook will move on in the competition.

To see which home cook cracks under the pressure, tune in to FOX at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching American Ninja Warrior, King of Cones, Hotel Hell, Running Wild with Bear Grylls, Teen Wolf, and Whose Line Is It Anyway?.
