angietribecasmallTonight, TBS kicks off a 25-hour commercial-free marathon of the first season of its new police procedural spoof, Angie Tribeca. LAPD detective Angie Tribeca (Rashida Jones, The Office, Parks and Recreation) has always been a bit of a lone wolf and has trouble keeping a partner. Her latest, number 237, is Jay Geils (Hayes MacArthur, Life as We Know It, Go On). Each episode of the series finds angry boss Lieutentant Chet Atkins (Jere Burns, Justified, Breaking Bad) assigning the cops to investigate some new bizarre case. Assisting Tribeca and GIles on their cases are Detective Danny Tanner (Deon Cole, black-ish) and his talking K-9 partner Hoffman, and medical examiner Dr. Monica Scholls (Andrée Vermeulen, Upright Citizen’s Brigade).

The overall tone of the series is very much like a Police Squad!/Naked Gun. There are lots of fun sight gags and word play, parodies, and totally ridiculous things happening both in the foreground as well as in the background, but the characters remain completely deadpan and serious in their delivery. I’ve watched the first 2 episodes, and I found myself laughing out loud several times. I can already see some of the running jokes that will likely show up in every episode. The humor can be hit or miss, but the jokes are done rapid-fire, so there are bound to be some that resonate. There are also some pretty great guest stars in the first 2 episodes – Alfred Molina, Lisa Kudrow, Gary Cole, Lauren Holly, and James Franco – and I can’t wait to see who pops up in the next 8!

Starting tonight, TBS will be airing the entire 10-episode first season five times in a row (though for some reason they seem to be skipping a few of the episodes in the third cycle). The pilot uses a fun running gag of Ford product placement to make up for the lack of ads, but I didn’t notice any similar product placement in the second episode. After the marathon, the episodes will re-air once a week at the show’s regular time on Monday nights.

Don’t miss the entire first season tonight on TBS starting at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Madam Secretary, The Good Wife, Galavant, Bob’s Burgers, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Bordertown, Mercy Street, Worst Cooks in America, Shameless, and Billions.

clipped818smallTonight, the first season of Clipped comes to an end on TBS. Last week, the gang’s former math teacher came to the shop, which upset Ben, who still held a grudge for how Mr. Painter had embarrassed him when he split his pants during class. However, at the funeral, Ben split his pants again while trying to gloat to the dead body. Meanwhile, Joy was looking for a sign as to whether or not she should try to fix her marriage. Mo was hopeful this meant he finally had a chance with her, but when Joy discovered she was pregnant, she decided it meant she should try to fix her marriage. However, after some reflection, she ultimately decided the pregnancy was a sign to end her marriage, which she did, but Mo was too scared to make his move.

When this series first started, I was afraid the Boston accents were going to grate on me, but I’ve really enjoyed this first season (save for the four sisters who live in the apartment across the street). How will this first season come to a close? Will Mo finally make his move and tell Joy how he feels about her? And what does the future hold for the rest of the gang? Will tonight’s season finale end in some kind of cliffhanger, and will the show be back for a second season?

On tonight’s episode, “Reunion,” the gang revisit their adolescence at a high school reunion. Elsewhere, Joy is stuck at the barbershop with Lonnie as he waits for his date.

See how the reunion goes tonight on TBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Zoo, Hollywood Game Night, Playing House, Face Off, Scream, and Another Period.

rizzoliisles616smallI’m so happy that Rizzoli & Isles is back tonight with its season premiere! Last season was an emotional one. Jane was pregnant but lost the baby when she was hurt protecting a teenage girl during a case. Frost was killed in a car crash (Sadly, Lee Thompson Young committed suicide about midway through season 4 airings.), leaving the team and especially Jane to grieve. Maura dealt with a lot of family issues, including once again seeing her father, Paddy. Korsak bought the bar the group always went to, and then Angela got a job as manager – and was a natural at it. Hopefully this season will be just as exciting but a little less heartbreaking!

On tonight’s episode, “The Platform,” when it appears one of their own shot an unarmed man on a busy Boston subway platform, the team must fight to find the real killer while clearing the detective’s name. But with Internal Affairs breathing down their necks, it becomes clear that the circumstances surrounding this shooting are anything but clear.

To see who’s under scrutiny, tune in to TNT at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Got Talent, Chrisley Knows Best, Junk Food Flip, The Little Couple, Stitchers, Chopped, Clipped, Royal Pains, & I Can Do That.

izombie69smallTonight, the first season of iZombie comes to a close. Last week, Liv entered her apartment to discover that Sebastian, the guy she infected, was inside and trying to attack Peyton. She went into full zombie mode and killed Sebastian. Afterwards, she explained the truth of her condition to Peyton, who fled the apartment as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, Major continued to pursue his zombie theory — he purchased some black-market weapons and brushed up on zombie-killing techniques via YouTube. He pretended to be a health inspector in order to get a closer look at Meat Cute, but Blaine soon discovered who he really was and tied him up in the back. Soon afterwards, Major heard Liv’s teenage brother in the front of the shop being offered a job by Blaine.

What are Blaine’s plans for Liv’s brother and Major? Will he turn them, kill them, or will they manage to escape? And will either of them learn the truth about Liv’s condition? It was great to finally see Peyton and Liv bonding so well this week — I really hope Peyton isn’t gone for good, although I don’t really blame her for not wanting to live with a zombie! I’m looking forward to seeing what tonight’s fun and exciting finale has in store!

On tonight’s episode, “Blaine’s World,” season 1 ends with Liv and Clive discovering new evidence in the Max Rager case. They then pay a visit to Vaughn Du Clark at Max Rager headquarters. Meanwhile, Ravi continues his search for a cure; Blaine makes Liv an offer she can’t refuse; and Major gets involved in an unbelievable situation.

See what offer Blaine makes and what Major gets involved in tonight on The CW at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording I Can Do That, Stitchers, Younger, Your Family or Mine, Chrisley Knows Best, and Royal Pains.

yourfamilyormine47smallWith another of their comedies just ending, it’s time for TBS to put out a new one, and tonight, that happens with Your Family or Mine, starring Kyle Howard (Royal Pains), Kat Foster (‘Til Death), Richard Dreyfuss, & JoBeth Williams. Kelli (Foster) and Oliver (Howard) are a young couple at the center of this new show, which alternates between them and other members of their family each week, including his parents, played by Dreyfuss & Williams. We see them dealing with complexities and eccentricities of both their families while trying to maintain their own marriage and sanity. It’s based on a very popular Israeli comedy of the same name.

There have been a lot of comedies similar to this one, all about the different people and couples within a family, so I don’t know how American audiences will take to this one. But I love both Kyle Howard and Kat Foster, and Richard Dreyfuss and JoBeth Williams are big names. Plus, the previews on TBS have looked really funny, so I’m crossing my fingers it’ll be good!

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” happily married couple, Kelli and Oliver Weston are living the old adage “marry your spouse, marry their family” as they spend their weekends visiting their respective in-laws and learning to maneuver through the idiosyncrasies that make up every family. Kelli’s and Oliver’s two very different backgrounds are clear as they each find their own way of making it work.

Meet the families tonight on TBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Hell’s Kitchen, NCIS, 19 Kids & Counting, iZombie, Married at First Sight, NCIS: NOLA, Weird Loners, 7 Little Johnstons, Chicago Fire, Chopped, & Younger.
