archer18smallTonight, Archer returns for another season on FX. Last year, things took quite a drastic turn for our favorite, politically incorrect spies. ISIS was disbanded by the government, and Archer and the gang had to find a new way to make a living. So they took the huge stockpile of cocaine that was leftover from their previous missions, formed their own drug cartel, and soon found themselves the targets of other rival drug outfits. Meanwhile, Cheryl reinvented herself, becoming the hit country singer Cherlene, and Lana had a baby girl and revealed to Archer that he is the father.

In the end, we found out that the entire “Archer Vice” mission was really a deep-cover mission to assist the CIA. So where does that leave our favorite spies this season? Are they now working for the CIA? Will they form a new agency? (I can’t really see Archer working for the government.) And how will Archer and Lana having a baby together affect their relationship/work? I’m looking forward to another season of craziness!

On tonight’s season premiere, “The Holdout,” Archer must salvage a crashed plane.

See how the season starts tonight on FX at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, Elementary, A to Z, Parenthood, and Babylon.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/18/14

It’s a week until Christmas Day, and I am definitely looking forward to the two weeks the kids are home because it means we all get to sleep in! While I relax and think about catching up on sleep, let’s see what you should be watching tonight.

thetastesmallThe Taste has been great so far this season, and it would appear that some things never change—such as Ludo having a bad temper and Nigella’s team being full of female attitude problems. I really enjoyed last week’s episode that was centered around seafood. I love all kinds of seafood but especially scallops—they are just so darn good! In the first part of the episode, Nigella’s team was a hot mess with the know-it-all chef Lindsay, causing quite the kerfuffle after Nigella’s team was voted worst again in the team challenge. Ultimately Lindsay was sent home because of her inability to take directions from her mentor. Moving on to the solo round, the writing was on the wall from the beginning when Marcus’s team had the expert advice of the guest chef in their kitchen, but Jake was still lost. The kid is nice, but ultimately his age and inexperience were his undoing and he was sent to the taste-off to compete against Jen (from Ludo’s team). I have to say that Jake was definitely working hard with Marcus’s coaching, but Ludo yelling at Jen was making me nervous for her. In the end, Jen came through and Jake was sent home because his halibut was overcooked. Sacrilege. I’m loving this season so far and look forward to seeing more of the intense mentors.

On tonight’s episode, “Happy Holidays,” ’tis the season for all things delicious with 13 remaining cooks competing in holiday-themed challenges. Tasked with creating dishes based on fowl, duck, and spiced chocolate desserts, the cooks take to the kitchen to see who will make the best bite. In the end, two more competitors will be sent home. Chef Naomi Pomeroy of Beast Restaurant in Portland, OR, is the guest judge during this episode.

To see which two chefs go home tonight, tune in to ABC starting at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching White Collar, Food Truck Face Off, Mom, People Magazine Awards, The McCarthys, Beat Bobby Flay, and Elementary.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/13/14

Thanksgiving is just 2 weeks away, and I’m already plotting my Black Friday shopping strategy, noting which stores have great deals on TV-on-Blu-ray releases I want to add to my collection. However, before I add more things to my To-Watch list, I should probably concentrate on clearing my TiVo backlog—I have at least 10 shows with 3 or more episodes piled up, and the free space is dwindling! I look forward to the long Thanksgiving weekend in a couple of weeks, when I’ll have extra time to catch up (or make those tough cuts). But in the meantime, here are some suggestions to help you fill your own DVRs…

parenthood1113smallParenthood is coming down the final stretch—there are just 6 episodes left! Last week was about people realizing they may not be better off splitting from their spouse. Joel had given up hope of reconciling with Julia—he agreed to give her the house and be done with it all. He was ready to sign his divorce papers when Zeek told him to fight for his daughter, so Joel went back to Julia and declared his intentions. Meanwhile, Hank apologized to his ex-wife, telling her about his Asperger’s and admitting that their marital problems were all his fault. This seemed to spark some old feelings in Sandy, who now wanted to spend more time reconciling and reconnecting with her ex and their daughter as a family, leaving Sarah feeling like the odd woman out. And elsewhere, Amber decided to test her skills as a future parent by babysitting Max and Nora, which was a big wake-up call as to what she was in for.

Will Joel and Julia get back together, or is she ready to move on with her relationship with her boyfriend? While I think that Joel and Julia should fix their marriage, the show has made her boyfriend such a nice guy that it’s a very difficult situation! And speaking of people getting back together, does Sarah have to worry about Sandy stealing Hank from her? And last week, it almost seemed like Zeek recognized his impending mortality when he was trying to bond with Drew—will he survive the next 6 episodes?!

On tonight’s episode, “Aaron Brownstein Must Be Stopped,” Max experiences heartache, which leads him to wage a propaganda campaign against a classmate. Meanwhile, financial troubles leave Crosby with a sense of defeat and propel Jasmine to get a new job; and Ruby exploits her father’s trust.

Check out the familial drama tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching (but mostly just recording) The Big Bang Theory, The McCarthys, Elementary, Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away with Murder, Bad Judge, A to Z, Bones, Gracepoint, White Collar, and Covert Affairs.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/30/14

My TiVo had been so overworked lately that I just assumed all of the fall TV shows had already started. However, I was wrong—tonight there are at least 7 new/returning shows starting up, including the entire CBS primetime lineup (well, The Big Bang Theory is just returning to its old night, but still)! We’ve got some suggestions to help you decide what to watch on this Hallows Eve eve.

elementary1030smallI’m looking forward to tonight’s return of Elementary. When we last saw our super-sleuths, Sherlock and Joan were trying to clear Mycroft after he had been framed to look like a mole within MI6. Sherlock agreed to work for MI6 (though only temporarily) in order to discover the identity of the real mole. However, in the process, some details of Mycroft’s involvement with the NSA came to light, forcing him to go into hiding. Afterwards, Joan realized that she needed some space from Sherlock and decided to move out of the apartment. Meanwhile, British Intelligence offered Sherlock a more permanent position, which he accepted.

So what does this mean for Joan and Sherlock’s partnership? I’m sure the show will find a way to resolve this rather quickly and bring these two back together, solving cases again in no time. I really enjoy the relationship between Joan and Sherlock, and I’m looking forward to seeing what interesting and entertaining cases we have to look forward to this season.

On tonight’s premiere, “Enough Nemesis to Go Around,” Holmes returns to New York City with a new apprentice and a renewed interest in working with the NYPD after being fired by London’s MI6. Unfortunately, Joan, the NYPD’s new go-to private investigator, must give her approval first before Sherlock can resume consulting for the department.

Catch the season premiere tonight on CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, The McCarthys, How to Get Away with Murder, Bad Judge, A to Z, Parenthood, Bones, Gracepoint, and Newsreaders.
