ncisla330smallLast week on NCIS: LA, sure, there was a case, but the bigger revelation was that Deeks is being investigated by Internal Affairs at the LAPD. Now, I have a huge complaint about that, given how little he’s actually worked with them the last six years. Why, all of a sudden, are they investigating him? What in the world could they suddenly have that needs investigating? On the actual case front, it was actually really interesting. FBI agents had set up a sting on a terrorist group that was buying explosives, but after they stopped them from driving away, their van blew up with three FBI agents inside it. NCIS was supposed to find out if the explosives were bad, but after learning more, they were tasked with figuring out who was behind the attack. It turned out to be a man whose nephew had been sent to prison for trying to blow up his school, but he blamed the FBI for recruiting the kid in the first place. In the end, the team was, of course, able to save the day. Kensi and Deeks spent the episode apart, with Deeks paired with Callen and Kensi paired with Sam. They thought it was because Hetty had found out about their relationship, but really it had more to do with the woman following them — the IA detective from LAPD. Hopefully the show isn’t setting it up so Deeks is somehow dirty. That would REALLY piss me off…

On tonight’s episode, “Blaze of Glory,” when a missile test is hijacked and sent off course, the team searches for the hacking group responsible for the attack with the help of a young computer specialist Hetty brings in to assist the team. Also, Nell sees the bond between the tech guru and Eric and she becomes jealous. (Maybe we’ll finally learn more about the vacation Eric went on with Nell to her family’s house at Christmas, huh??)

See if the team can find the hacking hijackers tonight on CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing 2 Broke Girls, Mike & Molly, Scorpion, Food Fortunes, & Castle.

ncisla39smallIt’s been a couple of weeks since the last NCIS: LA, and it was kind of a sad one. Thapa — the Nepali soldier they’d worked with before who’d given Deeks advice that led to him back away from Kensi slightly — returned, intent on grabbing a woman contracted by the CIA, but when someone shot at them as they were facing off — nearly killing Sam — Thapa said it wasn’t his man, so suddenly they had to work together to figure out who wanted the woman dead…and if not her, then find who it was they’d been aiming for. The team figured out the woman the CIA was bringing into the US was spying for her country, rather than coming to the US for safety and to give them all the info they needed on the nukes her country had. There was a great ninja fight at the hospital, and in the end, Thapa was killed as he saved Sam. It turned out the gunman from the beginning of the episode had been aiming for him. I felt horrible for Deeks especially, because he honestly considered the man a friend (or as close to a friend as their positions would allow). On a good note, Thapa had given Deeks advice again about Kensi, and because of that, Kensi & Deeks ended the episode a little bit calmer than they’d started. (Although they started together in bed, and that’s never a bad thing! LOL) But things were touch-and-go with Sam for a while. Thankfully he was going to be okay.

On tonight’s episode, “Savoir Faire,” while the team investigates the death of one of three Afghanistan soldiers who are training in the U.S., they discover two other soldiers are missing and must find them before they’re forced to reveal classified military operations to their captors. Also, Sam is back to work but his team worries it may be too soon, and Callen realizes he has very little in common with his partner.

See more funny banter between Sam and Callen tonight on CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing 2 Broke Girls, Mike & Molly, Scorpion, & Food Fortunes.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/12/13

Christmas is less than two weeks away, and many shows are airing their fall finales tonight! While I have these visions of me finally catching up on my ever-growing TiVo backlog over the holidays, I somehow doubt that will ever happen. As you count down the shopping days until Christmas, let us count up some shows we suggest you check out tonight…

thereturned1212smallTonight, we are down to the penultimate episode of The Returned’s first season. Last week, Pierre told the other crash victims’ parents about Camille, and they had loads of questions for her about their own children and why they hadn’t reappeared. Simon had been brought to the morgue after Thomas shot him as an “intruder,” but Simon soon found himself reawakening once again—in a morgue drawer. Thomas was afraid this might happen after he heard the news about Camille. Meanwhile, Victor had a scar growing on his arm like the one on Lena’s back. And at the end of the episode, we saw Lucy walk out of her hospital room to meet up with Simon, who was wandering up from the morgue—these returned folks seem destined to find one another!

What do these scars mean? Why are these people back, and can they even die?! What is the big secret about the dam? I have so many questions, but this show is so good that I don’t care if they answer them all right away because I’m enjoying the ride, and I know there’s already a second season on the way. If you’re not watching this show, you should be—Sundance has been airing the new episodes every Thursday, but also a marathon of all of the previously aired episodes every Sunday, so there are lots of opportunities to catch up!

On tonight’s episode, “Adèle,” various clans begin to emerge in the town’s ever-more-chaotic environment.

See if your curiosity is piqued tonight on Sundance Channel at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, The Millers, The Crazy Ones, Elementary, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, Grey’s Anatomy, Sean Saves the World, The Michael J. Fox Show, and Parenthood.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/21/13

This week has been flying by. I can’t believe it’s already Thursday! As I was trying to choose what to write up for my pick, I realized that I am behind on almost every Thursday night drama! And with tonight’s midnight launch of the Xbox One, I fear that I am only going to get further behind on my TV shows! In case you’re all caught up and looking for ideas on what to check out tonight, we’ve got some suggestions.

thereturned1121smallThe Returned has been so good—it just keeps getting creepier every week! I’m so glad Sundance chose to air this series and didn’t shy away because of it’s non-English soundtrack! In last week’s episode, we learned more about Julie, who had survived an attack several years earlier by the same (now returned) man who attacked and tried to eat a young woman in the tunnel. While Julie was out searching for Victor’s real parents, he took the opportunity to “take care of” her nosy next-door neighbor. Meanwhile, Camille went out in public, telling folks she was her “cousin Alice,” while her sister Léna noticed a strange, rapidly-spreading scar forming on her back. And Simon finally accepted his situation and decided to make a move on Adéle, but her stalkery finace watched the kiss via CCTV cameras.

What’s up with Victor and how/why is he drawing pictures of the other returned folks? What does Léna’s scar mean? How is Thomas going to react to seeing Simon kiss his finacee? And what is this situation with the rapidly dropping water line—what is causing it and what is the danger it poses? And the biggest question of all is why have these people returned and how are they all interconnected?!

On tonight’s episode “Victor,” though Camille’s new identity is going well, a strange occurrence leads Lena to publicly denounce her sister. Those surrounded by the returned are becoming uncertain of their safety, while Adele uncovers truths buried long ago.

See if we get answers tonight on Sundance Channel at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, The Millers, The Crazy Ones, Elementary, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, Grey’s Anatomy, Parks and Recreation, Sean Saves the World, The Michael J. Fox Show, Parenthood, Glee, White Collar, and Covert Affairs.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/7/13

I’m still not used to this hour change from Daylight Savings—it’s pitch black by 5pm now! As the days get shorter, at least we have Thanksgiving and Christmas to look forward to. I can’t believe I already started my Christmas shopping earlier this week. At this rate, I’ll be all done before Black Friday! Now that it’s November, that means Sweeps month, with a packed primetime lineup every night, so we’ve got some suggestions to help you decide what to watch.

Kyle’s Choice

thereturned117smallLast week, Sundance Channel premiered the new zombie import, The Returned, which originally aired as Les Revenants in France (and is an adaptation of a 2004 film of the same name). In a small mountain town, people who died are suddenly returning as though nothing happened. In last week’s premiere, teenager Camille shocked her mother when she suddenly showed up at the door four years after the bus she was on drove off a winding mountain road. Camille’s parents had separated after the accident but are now forced back under the same roof, and Camille’s twin Léna, with whom Camille seems to share some sort of psychic connection, is also shocked to see her sister, who hasn’t aged in 4 years. Other returnees include Simon (dead 10 years), who’s looking for his fiancee Adèle, and Madame Costa (dead 30 years), who returns to her overwhelmed husband who ties her up, sets the house ablaze, and then jumps to his own death. Finally, there’s the creepy young boy Victor, who doesn’t speak, seemingly has no family, and was the cause of Camille’s bus crash 4 years earlier.

The series is creepy (in a good way) and has a nice blend of drama and mystery. It’s not your typical zombie story with mindless brain-eating creatures rising from the dead. These “zombies” seem perfectly normal, like they just froze and thawed out in the present. All of these character’s lives seem inter-twined, and I’m looking forward to seeing how this whole mystery plays out. How and why have these people returned? How are they connected? And what’s up with creepy Victor—who is he, how long has he been dead, and why was he standing in the middle of the road?!

If you missed the first episode of The Returned, it had been available for free on iTunes and other digital platforms (not sure if it still is), so check for it online and On Demand.

On tonight’s episode, “Simon,” Simon approaches Adèle, but Thomas finds out about his “return”; Camille is unable to fit back in to her family.

Find out what happens tonight on Sundance Channel at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, The Millers, The Crazy Ones, Elementary, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, Grey’s Anatomy, Sean Saves the World, The Michael J. Fox Show, Parenthood, Glee, Inside the Actors Studio, White Collar, Covert Affairs, and The Greatest Event in Television History.
