rookieblue79smallIt’s been a great season of Rookie Blue so far. I have to admit that I had my doubts, given the way they ended last season with Marlo’s pregnancy and how the writers have treated Andy & Sam in the past. But they both seem to be committed to making it work, and Marlo (so far) doesn’t seem to want to get in the middle of them. How it will continue to play out, I don’t know, but I have my fingers crossed. Meanwhile, last week’s story line with the ultra-conservative/strict/abusive father was crazy. It got even crazier when the little boy tried to poison his sister. I was glad they were able to convince the mom to get her and the kids out of their home situation.

On tonight’s episode, “Uprising,” as tensions are running high in an over-capacity women’s correctional facility, a riot breaks out while Andy, Juliet, Nick, and Gail are there to transfer two inmates. The officers are separated, and a lock-down situation leads to Andy and Juliet being trapped with a dangerous prisoner who is desperate to prove her innocence. Meanwhile, Sam shows up at Marlo’s ultrasound and stays by her side while they anxiously wait to hear if something’s wrong with the baby. Episode was directed by series star Gregory Smith.

See if the officers get out of the prison riot safely tonight on ABC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Boom!, Food Fighters, Complications, Beat Bobby Flay, & Lip Sync Battle.

dominion79smallTonight, all hell breaks loose again as Dominion returns to Syfy for the start of its 13-episode second season. At the end of the first season, Alex confronted Claire about the baby, but her new husband William overheard this and said he would raise the baby as his own. Meanwhile, Gabriel was freed from prison by some of his acolytes, found Alex, and threatened to burn Vega to the ground and kill his loved ones unless Alex joined him. Meanwhile, David Whele found Gabriel’s remaining acolytes and burned them alive as they were praying. He grabbed his son, tied him up, and drove him out of Vega. While William was expecting his father to kill him, he instead handed him a gun and some supplies and told William to never return to Vega again. At the end of the episode, we saw Alex climbing the mountain into Gabriel’s Aerie and Claire reading a good-bye note from Alex to his unborn child.

What does the future hold for Alex at the Aerie? Will he fulfill his destiny by helping Gabriel bring his father back? Will he return to Vega? And what about Claire and the others back in Vega — are they safe now, or is it just a matter of time before they are attacked again? Did David really get rid of all of the acolytes, or does Gabriel still have followers hidden throughout the city? And where has Michael gone off to, and will he once again be able to amass an army of angels to back him in battle?

On tonight’s episode, “Heirs of Salvation,” an unexpected attack on Gabriel’s Aerie puts a newly freed Alex and Noma on the road to New Delphi, a dangerous and mysterious city. Meanwhile, Claire begins to understand the breadth of her responsibility; and Michael stumbles upon a quaint southern town whose residents have inexplicably managed to insulate themselves from the fallout of the Extermination War.

Find out what Alex and Noma come across on the road to New Delphi tonight on Syfy at 10/9c.

I’ll also be recording Big Brother, Under the Dome, The Astronaut Wives Club, Rookie Blue, Hannibal, Wayward Pines, and Complications.

foodfighters2015small It’s no secret that I adore cooking competition shows, so it’s not a surprise that I’m recommending Food Fighters tonight. This is one of those shows where I’m not sure if I want the professional or the home cook to win, because some of the top chefs that I love are coming to compete against these home cooks — chefs such as Anne Burrell and Antonia Lofaso. Last week, the home cook, Jackie, fought a valiant effort but ended up losing the last round, so she walked away with $50,000, which is a pretty big reward for coming to cook. I knew the minute she was up against Antonia she was a goner, because Antonia is fierce and works super hard to achieve the best. I’m looking forward to the episodes where it’s child home cooks going against the celebrity chefs. Can the chef’s ego survive being beaten by a child? It’s okay… I’m not sure either.

On tonight’s episode, “You’re in the Big Leagues Now,” a single web design manager from San Diego, CA, tries to win $100,000 going up against culinary experts specializing in everything from Latin cuisine to seafood before facing off against celebrity chef Eric Greenspan, executive chef and owner of three popular Los Angeles restaurants.

To see if the home cook can beat the odds and win $100,000, tune in to NBC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching Rookie Blue, Dominion, Beat Bobby Flay, and Mistresses.
