Tonight, NBC kicks off the new series The Enemy Within. CIA Director of Operations Erica Shepherd (Jennifer Carpenter, Dexter) was a brilliant operative who seemed to be at the top of her career when she was arrested for espionage and treason and sentenced to life in prison. Three years later, a coordinated terror attack occurs on U.S. soil, killing 14 government agents. It appears that the man responsible for the attack is the same person Erica had been working for, and he may have a mole in FBI helping him out. The FBI director thinks that to catch a spy they can use a spy and wants to enlist Shepherd, who was one of the government’s best code-breakers before she turned on them. However, FBI Agent Will Keaton (Morris Chestnut, Goliath, Rosewood) is very much against this plan since it was Shepherd’s actions that led to the death of his fiancee. Now the two are forced to work together to stop the terrorists before they can strike again.

The cast also includes Raza Jaffrey (Homeland, Lost in Space), Kelli Garner (The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe, Pan Am), Cassandra Freeman (Luke Cage), and Noah Mills (The Brave).

From the pilot, it seems like this show will be The Blacklist (con recruited to help the FBI) meets 24/Homeland (terrorism and moles). It doesn’t appear that the series will take on a case-of-the-week but rather be more character-based and explore a longer story arc, with twists and turns, slowly revealing details of why and how Shepherd was turned, as the FBI works to stop the terrorists and uncover the mole within their department.

On tonight’s premiere, “Pilot,” former CIA Agent Erica Shepherd, one of the most notorious traitors in recent American history, is brought out of a federal Supermax prison by FBI agent Will Keaton to help track down the criminal who is behind a coordinated attack on three cities.

See how Keaton gets Shepherd out of prison tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Good Doctor, The Passage, and The Other Two.

The Voice returns tonight for its 16th season, and it is going to be a good one! This season’s judges are Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, and for the first time…John Legend. My favorite judge lately has been Kelly because she is incredibly down to earth and funny, but I am going to enjoy having John Legend around to see what he brings to the table. Despite Adam having a few rocky moments last season, I am also looking forward to the usual Adam/Blake moments.

On tonight’s season premiere, the talent is exceptional and the competition is fierce as new coach John Legend joins returning coaches Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton as they vie to discover and coach the next singing phenomenon in the “Blind Auditions.”

Find out how John Legend does on his first episode tonight on NBC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching The Good Doctor, The Neighborhood, Man With a Plan, Magnum P.I., Bull, and The Enemy Within.
