Tonight is the series premiere of Call Me Kat on FOX at 8/7c. Based on the BBC UK original series Miranda and executive produced by Mayim Bialik and Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) , this new comedy stars Bialik as a woman who struggles every day against society and her mother to prove that she can still live a happy and fulfilling life despite still being single at 39. Which is why she recently spent her entire savings to open a cat café in Louisville, Kentucky. It was expected of Kat to be married with kids by now, but for many reasons, she’s still single — and totally fine with it. Of course, Kat’s mother, Sheila (Swoosie Kurtz, Mike & Molly, Sisters), views her daughter’s single-hood as her own personal failure, but Kat remains determined to live a fulfilling life, and charts her own course to happiness. Working alongside Kat at the café are Randi (Kyla Pratt, One on One), a confident millennial and self-proclaimed “non” cat person; and Phil (Leslie Jordan, The Cool Kids, Will & Grace), who recently broke up with his longtime partner. Although Kat celebrates her independence, her single-forever plans may begin to veer off-course, when her former crush and good friend, Max (Cheyenne Jackson, American Horror Story, 30 Rock), returns to town and takes a job as a bartender at the piano bar across the street, working with his friend, Carter (Julian Gant, Good Girls).

Tonight is also a 2-hour series premiere of The Watch on BBC America at 8/7c. The premiere aired last week early on AMC+, but the show will start tonight and continue on BBC America. The show follows an unlikely group of misfits, The City Watch, who are forced to find the guts to save the world, surprising even themselves in the process. The comedic yet thrilling series pits trolls, werewolves, wizards, and other improbable heroes against an evil plot to resurrect a great dragon which would lead to the destruction of life as they know it. The modern and inclusive series is inspired by the characters created by Sir Terry Pratchett’s famous “Discworld” novels, including the captain of The City Watch Sam Vimes (Richard Dormer, Game of Thrones), the last scion of nobility Lady Sybil Ramkin (Lara Rossi, I May Destroy You), the naïve but heroic Carrot (Adam Hugill, 1917), the mysterious Angua (Marama Corlett, Blood Drive), and the ingenious forensics expert Cheery (Jo Eaton-Kent, Don’t Forget the Driver) together with The Watch’s own idiosyncratic depiction of Death (Wendell Pierce, The Wire).

Tonight is the series premiere of Cal Fire on Discovery Channel at 10/9c. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) is dedicated to fire prevention and protection of California’s privately and publicly-owned wildlands and is the lead agency battling the historic wildfires that burned across California this past year — the worst in the state’s history. The men and women fighting on the frontlines are true heroes, and now, Discovery Channel, in partnership with Cal Fire, is bringing their battle against life-threatening blazes to viewers at home in the brand-new series. The 2020 fire season in California is catastrophic, with more than 4.1 million acres burned, 9,400 homes and structures destroyed, and 33 lives lost to date. The men and women of Cal Fire sacrifice their own lives to protect others. Many firefighters are unable to go home to their families for weeks as they constantly put the public’s needs above their own. In the series, multiple camera crews were embedded with Cal Fire’s frontline firefighters across the state — from Shasta in the North to San Diego in the South for the past three months, deploying cutting edge technology including fire-resistant helmet cameras to bring viewers an ultra-immersive perspective on the blazes. Crews had to undergo “Red Flag” training and were equipped with special protective gear in order to accompany the firefighters on the fire lines. Cal Fire gives viewers a first-hand look at some of California’s most destructive fires including the Apple Fire near the Cherry Valley neighborhood in Southern California, the Creek Fire in the Sierra National Forest and the El Dorado Fire near San Bernardino County. From Napa to San Diego, several fires ravaged California this year — and the worst is likely yet to come as they are in the midst of an unpredictable Santa Ana wind season.

Tonight is the series premiere of Secrets of the Viking Stone on Science Channel at 10/9c. Were Norsemen the first Europeans to explore the Minnesota-Great Lakes and surrounding area more than a century before Christopher Columbus? Some scholars and fervent theorists believe so and are ready to fortify their beliefs with proof. Actor Peter Stormare, known for his role in Fargo, and history enthusiast Elroy Balgaard set out to solve the mystery of the famed Kensington Runestone — an artifact that, if proven authentic, could rewrite the history of North America. In addition to watching on Science Channel, viewers can join the conversation on social media by using the hashtag #SecretsoftheVikingStone and following @ScienceChannel on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Tonight is the series premiere of Worst Cooks in America: Dirty Dishes on Food Network at 10:30/9:30c. Companion series to Worst Cooks in America begins its first-ever run. Each week, memorable boot camp alumni, celebrity recruits including Carson Kressley and Sonja Morgan, and comedians watch along and dish the dirt on the funniest episodes of Worst Cooks in America.

Overnight was the premiere of the Discovery+ streaming service. There were…over 50 premieres and specials. Unless I want to do nothing for the next two days, I will not be listing them separately. So here is a list of the premieres. Some are from other networks and just premiering on the new network, not true series premieres. Others are “spinoffs” or such of other shows. If you want more information about any of them, you can find it at DiscoveryPlus.com. Shows and specials include: 90 Day Bares All, 90 Day Diaries, 90 Day Journey, American Detective with Lt. Joe Kenda, Amityville Horror House, Amy Schumer Learns to Cook: Uncensored, Battlebots: the Bounty Hunters, Bobby and Giada in Italy, Cakealikes, Chopped Challenge, Dr. Pimple Popper: This is Zit, Elephant Hospital, Family Dinner, The Fieldhouse, First Time Fixer, Frozen in Time, Ghost Adventures: Top 10, Gold Rush: Freddy Dodge’s Mine Rescue, Growing Floret, HGTV’s House Party, Home on the Road with Johnnyswim, Home Town: Ben’s Workshop, House Hunters: Comedians on Couches Unfiltered, The Lost Kitchen, Lovely Bites with Chef Lovely, Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines, Mysterious Planet, Onision: In Real Life, The Other Way Strikes Back!, The Perfect Planet, Point of View, Race Across the World, Restoration Road with Clint Harp, Road to Launch, Say Yes to the Dress: In Sickness and in Health, Self Employed, Six Degrees with Mike Rowe, Super Dad, Tarek’s Flip Side, & Tregaye’s Way in the Kitchen.

Tonight is also the series premiere of 30 Coins on HBO at 9/8c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 10:20/9:20c. The show follows Father Vergara (Eduard Fernández), an exorcist, sent away by the church, to become the local priest of Pedraza, a remote town in Spain. When inexplicable terror begins to plague the idyllic community, the local vet Elena (Megan Montaner) and the town’s mayor, Paco (Miguel Ángel Silvestre), form an unlikely alliance to understand the source of the strange and demonic events. The series also stars Macarena Gómez, Pepón Nieto, and Manolo Solo. This eight-episode horror series, produced by HBO Europe in Spain, was shot in Rome, Paris, New York, Jerusalem, Geneva, & throughout Spain.

Tonight is the series premiere of The Hustler on ABC at 10/9c. Hosted by Emmy Award-winning host, actor, writer, and comedian Craig Ferguson, The Hustler breaks the game show mold by featuring one player who secretly already knows the answers. Don’t be fooled. Just because they have a leg up doesn’t mean they’ll be taking home the prize. Each episode follows five contestants as they collaborate to answer a series of trivia questions worth $10,000 each, with the goal of building a collective prize pot that increases with each correct answer. The catch? One of the five contestants, the Hustler, already knows the answers but must keep their identity a secret in order to have a shot at winning the grand prize. Throughout each episode, two contestants are anonymously eliminated by the Hustler, leaving three remaining contestants — the Hustler and two others — who must collectively decide who they think the Hustler is. If they are right, they share the prize pot that could be worth over $100,000. If the two contestants are wrong, the Hustler goes home with the full cash reward.

Each one-hour episode is comprised of two stand-alone half-hour contests, each pitting two players against each other as they race against the clock to test their knowledge of songs, performed by the live band. Each contest features a rotating variety of games from the original format, before the iconic Bid-a-Note round. The player with the most money at the end of Bid-a-Note wins the game and takes his or her bank into the Golden Medley bonus round, for a chance to win additional cash and potentially the $100,000 grand prize.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Kitchen Crash on Food Network at 10/9c. Host Jeff Mauro brings all the pressure and heat of culinary competitions to the suburban streets. With only 10 minutes on the clock, each chef must convince a local homeowner on the cul-de-sac to hand over ingredients from their kitchens and pantries, with the caveat that the competing chefs can only use the items that the homeowners can fit into one bin. With no additional pantry items and no option to restock, the chefs must ration what they are given for the entire competition. The chef that can make the most delicious dishes using only the ingredients in the average American kitchen will earn a cash prize to split with the family who provided the ingredients.
