Tonight is the 85-minute series premiere of The Gilded Age on HBO at 9/8c. Against the backdrop of this transformation, HBO’s The Gilded Age begins in 1882 with young Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson) moving from rural Pennsylvania to New York City after the death of her father to live with her thoroughly old money aunts Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski) and Ada Brook (Cynthia Nixon). Accompanied by Peggy Scott (Denée Benton), an aspiring writer seeking a fresh start, Marian inadvertently becomes enmeshed in a social war between one of her aunts, a scion of the old money set, and her stupendously rich neighbors, a ruthless railroad tycoon and his ambitious wife, George (Morgan Spector) and Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon). Exposed to a world on the brink of the modern age, will Marian follow the established rules of society, or forge her own path? In addition, the series stars Taissa Farmiga, Blake Ritson, Simon Jones, Harry Richardson, Thomas Cocquerel, & Jack Gilpin. Overnight was the complete first season premiere of Take Out with Lisa Ling on HBO Max. When it comes to choosing where to eat out, Chinese, Indian, or Japanese food is as ubiquitous as pizza and burgers. These days, there are Asian restaurants in practically every mall food court and Main Street across the United States. Yet, little is known about the diverse communities behind them. Asian Americans have long been lumped together, misunderstood, exoticized, and even purposefully cut out of our history books. In this new series, award-winning journalist Lisa Ling – who’s own family story began in a Chinese restaurant – travels from the bayous of Louisiana to Orange County’s Little Saigon, exploring the foods we love while shining a long overdue spotlight on the contributions Asian Americans have been making to the United States since before the United States was even the United States.

Tonight is the series premiere of The Afterparty on Apple TV+ at 12:01AM/11:01PMc, along with two more episodes. This is a genre-defying series centered on a murder mystery at a high school reunion. Each episode explores a different character’s account of the fateful evening in question, all through the lens of popular film genres and unique visuals to match the storyteller’s perspective. It features a stellar ensemble cast including Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip, Like a Boss), Sam Richardson (The Tomorrow War, Veep), Zoë Chao (Love Life, Downhill), Ben Schwartz (Space Force, House of Lies), Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project, Neighbors), Ilana Glazer (Broad City), Jamie Demetriou (Fleabag, Stath Lets Flats), and Dave Franco (The Rental, The Disaster Artist).

Tonight is the series premiere of The Legend of Vox Machina on Amazon at 12:01AM/11:01PMc, along with two more episodes. Based on the beloved characters and adventures of Critical Role’s first livestreamed tabletop role-playing game (RPG) campaign, The Legend of Vox Machina is an animated fantasy-adventure series for adults that follows Vox Machina, a band of misfits with a fondness for boozing and brawling. In a desperate attempt to pay off their mounting bar tab, these unlikely heroes end up on a quest to save the realm of Exandria from dark magical forces. From a sinister necromancer to a powerful curse, the group confronts a variety of obstacles that not only test their skills, but also the strength of their bond. It stars Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Liam O’Brien, Marisha Ray, Matthew Mercer, Sam Riegel, Taliesin Jaffe, & Travis Willingham.

Overnight was the premiere of the feature film The Fallout on HBO Max. Bolstered by new friendships forged under sudden and tragic circumstances, high schooler Vada begins to reinvent herself, while re-evaluating her relationships with her family, friends and her view of the world. Moving away from her comfortable family routine, she starts taking chances with a series of quicksilver decisions that test her own boundaries and push her in new directions. As she spends more time with Mia, they grow closer, and Vada slowly redefines herself through their shared experiences, leading her further away from that day and closer to living her life in the now. It stars Jenna Ortega, Maddie Ziegler, Niles Finch, Will Ropp, Lumi Pollack, John Ortiz, Julie Bowen, Shailene Woodley, Christine Horn, Austin Zajur, & Yindra Zayas.

Tonight is the documentary film special Boris Karloff: The Man Behind the Monster on Shudder. Beginning just before debut as Frankenstein’s creation, Boris Karloff: The Man Behind The Monster compellingly explores the life and legacy of a cinema legend, presenting a perceptive history of the genre he personified. His films were long derided as hokum and attacked by censors. But his phenomenal popularity and pervasive influence endures, inspiring some of our greatest actors and directors into the 21st Century – among them Guillermo Del Toro, Ron Perlman, Roger Corman & John Landis all of whom and many more contribute their personal insights and anecdotes.

Tonight is a 2-hour ABC special, Truth and Lies: The Last Gangster, on 8/7c. The special focuses on the infamous Gambino mob family and features a new interview with one of the most notorious hitmen in mafia history, Sammy “The Bull” Gravano. In a blockbuster interview, Gravano reveals secret rites and practices of the mafia and speaks candidly about the use of murder as an instrument of power and control. Gravano, a man who murdered 19 people, including his closest friend and his brother-in-law, was part of a violent brotherhood known as “Cosa Nostra.” For years he and John Gotti, the head of the Gambino family, controlled tremendous portions of New York City’s economy under a rule of fear and intimidation, and his loyalty to “The Family” came at a devastating cost. Ultimately, Gravano became a witness for the FBI, and his testimony brought down the mafia. Together with Gravano’s 1997 Diane Sawyer interview, the special features new interviews with Gravano’s son Gerard and daughter Karen; Curtis Sliwa; former mobsters John Gotti Jr., Larry Mazza, Michael Francese and Anthony Ruggiano; Ruggiano’s daughter Toni Lee; companions of both Gravano and Gotti; daughters of Gravano’s victims; Sopranos producer and writer Terence Winter; and former FBI and NYPD officers who led the Gambino investigation.
