Last week, The Resident returned for its third season on FOX. In the opening moments, we learned that it was Nic’s sister Jessie who didn’t survive the surgery, while her father did. Nic was taking the loss hard, and even though it had been a month, Nic was still not ready to scatter to her sister’s ashes and say goodbye. Mina tried to convince Nic to come back to work, letting her know that Red Rock Mountain Medical had cut the funding for her free clinic – this conglomerate that purchased Chastain Park only cares about the bottom line and profits over patients.

Back at the hospital, a young patient had run away at the sight of a needle, and Conrad tracked him to the basement. However, there was a gas leak and the proton beam accelerator exploded, sending shrapnel into Conrad and particle physicist Annie. While treating their injuries, the doctors discovered that Annie had Stage 4 cancer, which she was determined to fight. There was some suspicion that the explosion might not have been an accident and that someone at Red Rock may have wanted to eliminate the costly machinery that was hardly being utilized, in favor of the insurance payout.

Meanwhile, Kit got wind that Red Rock was thinking of not renewing her contract due to her low billing rate of just $2M per year. However, they were excited to bring in rock star neurosurgeon Barrett Cain, with his $80M per year in billings. Plus, last season’s miracle triple transplant patient, Eloise, was now an intern at the hospital but must take extreme precautions when seeing sick patients due to her cystic fibrosis.

The series is back in full form, and the new staff shake-ups at the hospital should make for some interesting new dynamics this season. It seems so long ago that we were holding our breath every time that Dr. Bell entered the operating room. Now it seems like he should be the least of the patients’ concerns – they should be more worried about the hospital administrators who see them as a number and whose sole goal is to maximize profits, even at the expense of their needs.

On tonight’s episode, “Flesh of My Flesh,” intending to garner publicity for the hospital, Cain tries to recruit Bell and Kit on a dangerous surgery; the Raptor develops an emotional attachment to a patient; Mina’s friend arrives with shocking news.

Find out what Bell and Kit decide about the surgery tonight on FOX at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Bless This Mess, mixed-ish, black-ish, Emergence, and This Is Us.

Last week, FOX’s 9-1-1 kicked off its third season and left viewers with a big cliffhanger. In last week’s premiere, Buck has recovered from last season’s near-fatal accident and was anxious to return to work. He had been cleared to go back to work but suffered a pulmonary embolism at a party that Bobby and Athena had thrown for him to celebrate his passing of the LAFD re-entrance exam. After this, Bobby informed Buck that he was going to be relegated to desk duty. All Buck has ever wanted to do is be a firefighter, and now he’s wondering what he’s going to do with his life. Meanwhile, Eddie asked Buck to babysit Christopher while he was at work, so Buck took him to the boardwalk. But as the episode ended, they were out on the pier and a huge tsunami was about to come crashing ashore. Everyone started running and panicking, but it seemed unlikely that they were going to be able to completely outrun the wall of water and destruction coming their way.

I can always count on this show for big, over-the-top craziness. Last week we had a teen stuck in a speeding, out-of-control sports car and a missing woman whose baby was stolen from her womb. And you don’t really get bigger than a tsunami, so I am looking forward to seeing the continuation of that in tonight’s episode!

On tonight’s episode, “Sink or Swim,” a massive tsunami hits the Santa Monica Pier, jeopardizing the lives of both Buck and Christopher.

Get swept away by the scary excitement tonight on FOX at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Good Doctor, Bob Hearts Abishola, All Rise, Bluff City Law, and Prodigal Son.

It’s an exciting Sunday for me because two of my favorites are back! First up is the season premiere of NCIS: LA, which ended last season with the fate of two members of the team in extreme jeopardy. The team was kind of all spread out in last season’s finale, all fighting the same fight – except for Nell and Eric, who were in San Francisco fighting the fight against Nell’s mom’s health problems. But Callen and Sam were aboard the USS Allegiance with Navy Captain Harmon Robb Jr (David James Elliott), Hetty was stateside, working with Marine Lt. Col. Sarah “Mac” Mackenzie (Catherine Bell) to learn more about the bad guys the rest of the team was fighting to stop, and Kensi and Deeks were over in Iran with Sabatino…and were trapped in the mobile CIA unit with him and a few others when they came under attack by ISIS fighters. They were literally trapped inside this metal box with no way out and not a lot of options. Obviously they won’t be going anywhere, so somehow, someone has to stop the ISIS guys, but who will it be?? The others are all thousands of miles away, trying to stop a missile attack that could potentially start WWIII.

We get more of Harm and Mac tonight, which is super exciting for JAG fans, but what I would also love to see more of is Sabatino. I think there’s an awesome chance here for another spinoff. I love him and his portrayer, Erik Palladino.

On tonight’s episode, “Let Fate Decide,” Callen and Sam work with Navy Capt. Harmon Rabb, Jr. to apprehend spies aboard the USS Allegiance. Also, Hetty partners with Marine Lt. Col. Sarah “Mac” Mackenzie to neutralize a missile attack in the Middle East, and Kensi and Deeks are trapped in a mobile CIA unit in Iraq while under attack by ISIS.

Don’t miss the exciting conclusion to last season’s finale episode on CBS (starting late because of football) at 9:30/8:30c.

Hawaii Five-0 is back tonight, and I’m so anxious to see what happened after last season’s finale, when Steve was supposedly shot. Most of the finale was all about hunting down Aaron Wright, which involved him hacking the emergency alert system to cause panic that there was an incoming missile in order for him to get away. But they figured out where he was headed – a private airfield – and though they didn’t get there in time to stop him, Jerry brilliantly hacked the plane’s systems and caused it to start losing fuel. Rather than crash and burn, Wright turned the plane around and landed…right into police custody. That leads us back to the gunshot at Five-0 headquarters.

Omar Hassan’s wife wanted to come by with her young son to make “amends” for her husband’s reign of terror and end the cycle of violence. The visit seemed to go well, but on the way out, she shoved her kid off to the side, pulled out a white plastic gun, and fired it in Steve’s direction off-camera.

So was Steve shot? Did someone else jump in front of the bullet? From the description of tonight’s episode, it sure seems like someone maybe died, but I haven’t heard of anyone leaving…so who knows! Also, Katrina Law joins the cast as Quinn Liu.

On tonight’s episode, “Ua ’eha ka ’ili i ka maka o ka ihe (Hawaiian for ‘The skin has been hurt by the point of the spear’),” a new ally helps McGarrett and Five-0 when mob bosses on the island are being targeted by an assassin. Also, Five-0 says goodbye to one of their own. Rob Morrow guest stars.

Don’t miss it tonight on CBS at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching The Great British Baking Show, American Housewife, & Blue Bloods.

My first pick tonight is the series premiere of Evil. If you know me, you know I’m not at all into dramas or even most supernatural shows, but this is different. It’s a bit of a cop drama mixed with the supernatural, and I couldn’t help but watch when they made the screeners available.

From Michelle & Robert King (The Good Wife/The Good Fight & BrainDead), this is a psychological mystery that examines the origins of evil along the dividing line between science and religion. Kristen Bouchard (Katja Herbers) is a skeptical psychologist basically single mother of four (her husband is off supervising climbing tours of some big mountain overseas, so he’s rarely home). She starts off the show as an expert witness for the District Attorney, but after being pushed to lie on the stand, she quits and a little reluctantly joins forces with David Acosta (Mike Colter), a former adventure-seeking journalist now studying to be a priest and tasked by the Church to assess unexplained phenomena – possessions, miracles, etc. Their job is to figure out if it’s supernatural or if there’s a logical explanation. Along with Kristen and David is Ben Shakir, another skeptic who uses his computer and carpentry skills to figure out/prove that what seems to be supernatural is, in reality, something done by humans or naturally in the environment.

Kristen begins having night terrors, which are SUPER freaky, and one of the more scary characters is Leland Townsend, a man who (CBS’s words but oh so appropriate) “oozes menace” and threatens Kristen and her daughters. David tries to tell Kristen that Townsend is in reality evil, but she doesn’t believe it…until she does. The road to that is spooky and creepy and…everything good that is this show.

I’ve seen the first few episodes already, and it’s scared the pants off me. I loved it way more than I thought I was going to, so I highly recommend at least checking out the first couple of episodes! Also starring are Christine Lahti, Kurt Fuller, Brooklyn Shuck, Dalya Knapp, Maddy Crocco, & Skylar Gray.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” forensic psychologist Kristen Bouchard is hired by the Catholic Church to work with David Acosta, a priest-in-training, and contractor Ben Shakir, to determine whether a serial killer is possessed by a demon or merely a psychopath. Kristen finds that she has a taste for the work and is invited to join the team on a permanent basis.

Don’t miss the premiere tonight on CBS at 10/9c.
