12monkeys418smallLast year, Syfy’s new time-bending sci-fi drama 12 Monkeys was a pleasant surprise and ended up being one of my favorite shows of the year. Tonight the series returns for its second season. The show centers around James Cole, who was sent back from 2043 to 2015 in order to prevent a virus from being spread that would wipe out the world. When we last left off, Cole had confronted his former best friend Ramse, who had traveled back decades earlier and was just waiting out his time until 2015 so he could use the splinter machine when it was first created, to save his son. However, Cole and Cassie caught up with him, and Cassie pulled a gun and shot Ramse, but she was also shot in the crossfire. With both of them bleeding out, Ramse gave Cassie his needle of time-travel serum and told her to inject herself and go to the future, where Jones would save her. However, in 2043, Jones was having her own issues – Deacon had joined forces with the group of 12 to storm the facility and seize control of the machine. However, they were shocked to see Cassie arrive. And back in 2015, new Markridge CEO Jennifer Goines was seen setting out for a 12-city trip around the globe and was loading 12 mysterious boxes onto her plane.

The Striking Woman said that it was Ramse’s fate to die in 2015 and that couldn’t be changed, but Cole decided to save his friend – how is that possible, and what affect will this have? If Ramse isn’t The Witness, then who is? With no time-travel injection, how will Cole and Ramse get back to the future, or will they just wait out the next 28 years?! What does the group of 12 have planned in the future, and how will Cassie’s arrival affect that? And speaking of Cassie, how will she survive in the future – isn’t she in danger of catching the virus? And what is Jennifer planning with her 12-city globetrotting adventure?! I’m really excited to see what happens next and can’t wait to check out tonight’s season premiere!

On tonight’s episode, “Year of the Monkey,” Cole and Ramse mend their broken friendship while on the run from the Army of the 12 Monkeys in the Season 2 premiere. And in the year 2043, Railly and Jones navigate an uncertain future as Deacon and the Twelve command the Temporal Facility.

Catch up with Cole, Ramse, and the others tonight on Syfy at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Supergirl, Castle, Blindspot, Gotham, Lucifer, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Jane the Virgin, The Detour, Bates Motel, Hunters, Better Call Saul, and Talking Saul.

thunderbirdssmallToday, Amazon is giving viewers a sneak peek at the 1-hour premiere of its latest original animated series, Thunderbirds Are Go, which is a reboot of Gerry Anderson’s classic 1965 sci-fi series Thunderbirds, except there are no puppets this time around. The show is set in 2060 and follows the adventures of the five Tracy brothers (Scott, John, Virgil, Gordon, and Alan), who run the life-saving International Rescue organization from their hidden headquarters on Tracy Island in the Pacific Ocean. Each brother is in charge of a different high-tech “Thunderbird” rescue vehicle – Thunderbird 1 is a first-response rocket plane; Thunderbird 2 is a supersonic-carrier aircraft with detachable pods to carry people or equipment; Thunderbird 3 is a space-rescue rocket; Thunderbird 4 is an underwater-search-and-rescue mini-submarine; and Thunderbird 5 is a space-communications satellite. Helping the Tracys out on their missions are the boys’ grandmother, covert ops specialist/head of security Kayo, engineer Brains and his robot pal MAX, and London socialite/secret agent Lady Penelope (Rosamund Pike, Gone Girl) and her chauffeur Parker, who drives a pink limo called FAB 1 that has been suped-up with all kinds of gadgets and gizmos.

While this new series is animated, it does pay homage its predecessor by mixing CGI animation with live-action model sets, which gives the series a fun, unique look. While Amazon says the series is aimed at children aged 6 through 11, I think people of all ages can enjoy this action-packed series. Today Amazon is giving viewers a sneak peek of the 1-hour premiere, “Ring of Fire Parts 1 & 2,” and next Friday they will release all 13 episodes of what they are calling the first season. (Abroad, the series has already aired one season of 26 episodes, is in production on a second, and a third has already been greenlighted. Amazon will be airing at least the first 2 26-episode seasons, likely released in 4 batches of 13-episodes.)

I have seen tonight’s 1-hour premiere, and it has the tough duty of setting up this entire world and introducing all of the characters as well as the show’s big villain. While it moves quite quickly, I found it very enjoyable to watch. It has a nice blend of action and humor with a touch of mystery. The animation looks really cool, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of the episodic missions and catastrophes the group must deal with in future installments.

On today’s sneak peek, “Ring Of Fire, Parts 1 and 2,” it’s a typical busy day for International Rescue, but a powerful underwater seaquake turns it into a perilous one.

Today’s preview started on Amazon at 3:01AM/2:01AMc earlier this morning.

I’ll also be watching/recording Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, The Amazing Race, Grimm, Wynonna Earp, Childrens Hospital, and Banshee.

Sarah Manning (TATIANA MASLANY)Tonight, Orphan Black returns for a fourth season on BBC America, on a brand new night. Last season we were introduced to the male Castor clones, who were bred more as soldiers. As the third season came to a close, Dr. Coady had sent Rudy to find Alison, but he ran into Helena and the two had a prison yard-style brawl that ended with Rudy’s death. Mark tried to impersonate Rudy, but Sarah found him and got him to reveal Dr. Coady’s plan. Meanwhile, Krystal was impersonating Rachel, and this led Delphine to uncover the Neolutionist conspiracy – which in turn led to her bleeding out in a parking garage at the end of the season. The real Rachel once again had two eyes and now a sort-of-adopted child in the young Leda clone, Charlotte. Elsewhere, Sarah was reunited with daughter Kira; a pregnant Helena had been helping out with the Hendrixes’ not-so-legal soap business, and as a thanks, Donnie and Alison reunited her with boyfriend Jesse; Cosmina contemplated telling Shay everything; and Alison won the election.

There are so many different clones and conspiracies to keep track of with this show, but it always finds a nice blend of comedy, drama, suspense, and unexpected twists. Tatiana Maslany is so brilliant that I always forget that so many of these characters are played by the same actress – they all have such unique personalities, and the scenes in which they interact look so convincing and real.

On tonight’s premiere “The Collapse of Nature,” a Neolution attack destroys Sarah’s refuge in Iceland and forces her to flee once again.

See where Sarah runs to tonight on BBC America at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Odd Couple, Rush Hour, Grey’s Anatomy, The Catch, The Blacklist, Game of Silence, Bones, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, The 100, Archer, and 60 Days In.

Olivier Rabourdin as RomanTonight, Sundance Channel kicks off the six-part crime series The Last Panthers, which is inspired by the real-life events of the notorious Balkans jewel thieves. The series is set in modern-day Europe, where a group of thieves pulls off a daring diamond heist that bears all the hallmarks of the Pink Panthers, a group that was thought to no longer exist. In the course of the robbery and investigation, a tragedy occurs, which causes the worlds of several folks to unexpectedly collide. The series explores the interplay between the thieves, traffickers, government officials, war criminals, and bankers who are all affected by this heist. Among these folks are insurance adjuster Naomi Franckom (Samantha Morton, Minority Report), who’s haunted by her past service for the UN; Naomi’s boss Tom Kendle (John Hurt, Doctor Who), who specializes in diamond recovery; thief Milan Celik (Goran Bogdan), who’s trying to get money for his brother’s heart surgery; and French police officer Khalil Rachedi (Tahar Rahim), a man whose troubled past resurfaces.

The series is based on an idea by French journalist Jérôme Pierrat, was co-created and written by Jack Thorne (Skins), and directed by Johan Renck (Breaking Bad). I always love a good heist story, I like the pedigree of the folks behind the show, and from the trailer this series looks really interesting! I’m looking forward to checking out tonight’s premiere, and since it’s only 6 episodes, it’s not a huge time commitment for my already-full DVR!

On tonight’s premiere, “The Animal,” a heist in Marseilles bears the earmarks of a notorious gang thought to be out of the business.

Check out how the thieves pull off the diamond heist tonight on Sundance Channel at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Survivor, Criminal Minds, The Middle, The Goldbergs, Modern Family, black-ish, Empire, and The Americans.

gameofsilence412smallTonight is the series premiere of Game of Silence on NBC on a special premiere night. The show follows best friends who have a dark secret they thought was buried 25 years ago, but they soon discover that you can’t run from your past for long. Jackson Brooks is a successful attorney who seems to have it all. He’s engaged to his boss, Marina, and he’s on the fast track to becoming partner at his firm, but his world is turned upside down when his long-lost childhood friends unexpectedly reappear after 25 years. An incident from their past is coming back to complicate all of their lives, so now they need to work together to overcome the issues.

It’s getting mixed reviews, but I’m an optimist and willing to give it the benefit of the doubt for the first few episodes at least. There’s always time for a new drama to spice up the TV schedule.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” Jackson Brooks has it all – a gorgeous fiancée, a beautiful house, and a red-hot legal career. However, when his childhood friends reappear one day seeking his help to avenge a 25-year-old wrong, his perfect life is turned upside down. With the news that their friend Boots has been murdered, they are forced to confront a terrible secret from their past.

Find out if this drama is going to be on your must-watch list tonight at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching The Voice, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..
