amcrimestory45smallTonight, FX’s The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story comes to an end as the verdict is announced. Last week it was all about those racist audio tapes. A failed screenwriter had interviewed Mark Fuhrman for 13 hours about his police work, and in these tapes Fuhrman repeatedly drops the n-word while spewing every kind of racist remark and admitting to planting evidence to help incriminate non-white folks. Johnnie Cochran and F. Lee Bailey were desperate to get them into evidence so that the jury could hear them, and they used all kinds of questionable tactics to get a judge to approve this. They also took it to the streets to get the public to demand to hear the tapes. However, since the tapes included Fuhrman making derogatory remarks about Judge Ito’s wife, this put the whole case into question – should Ito recuse himself, or should there be a mistrial? (The prosecution really should have jumped at the chance of a mistrial, but I think at this point no one really liked the idea of starting all over again!) Ito ruled that only a tiny portion of the tapes could be played for the jury – the part that proved that Fuhrman had purgered himself on the stand when he said he didn’t use the n-word. And when Fuhrman took the stand, he just pleaded the fifth repeatedly, which didn’t do any wonders for the prosecution’s case.

Over the course of this series, the show has done an amazing job of bringing this case to life – it also brought back all those old feelings of frustration and annoyance toward how this whole circus of a trial played out. It’s easy to see the prominent role this case has played in shaping today’s celebrity-obsessed culture. Each week I get more and more frustrated with how Cochran is able to manipulate people and turn the whole case into a race thing, completely ignoring the fact that the trial is supposed to be about getting justice for the two people who were murdered. I’m both looking forward to and dreading tonight’s finale, but either way, I know it’s going to be fully entertaining to watch.

On tonight’s finale, “The Verdict,” the prosecution and defense make their closing statements; the jurors deliberate; and the verdict is given.

See the end play out tonight on FX at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Limitless, Fresh Off the Boat, The Real O’Neals, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and iZombie.

thewalkingdead43smallTonight, the sixth season of AMC’s The Walking Dead comes to a close with a special 90-minute finale, and it’s likely that one or more major character isn’t going to survive the night. Last week, Carol ran off in the middle of the night and ended up crossing paths with another group of Negan’s men. She was able to escape thanks to putting on her downtrodden weak persona…and the fact that she had a hidden machine gun she had sewn into the sleeve of her jacket. Meanwhile, when the rest of the group learned about Carol’s disappearance, they split up into search parties, while Daryl headed off on his own to find and kill Dwight. Rick and Morgan thought they were tracking Carol, but it ended up just being a walker that resembled her, so they headed back to Alexandria, where Maggie (with a new short haircut) started having extreme stomach pains. Elsewhere, Dwight managed to capture Glenn and Michonne and used them as bait to set a trap for Daryl, which worked. The episode ended with Dwight shooting Daryl and the camera view getting covered in blood. Is Daryl dead?!

I think it’s highly unlikely that Daryl is actually dead (yet) and that all that blood we saw was from some sort of shoulder wound rather than a head shot. However, that still doesn’t put our gang out of danger! Will Dwight take his captives to Negan? Will be finally see Negan, and if so, what’s his style of justice like? Also, what happened to Carol after she got away? Is Maggie in labor, or is she losing the baby? And is her situation life-threatening? It should be an exciting night, and I’m just hoping all of my favorite characters survive!

On tonight’s finale, “Last Day on Earth,” Rick and the group must go outside the walls to save one of their own, but what they experience on the road will change their lives forever.

Find out who lives or dies tonight on AMC at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Family, Quantico, The Carmichael Show, The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, The Last Man on Earth, Talking Dead, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.

wynonnaearp41smallThere’s a new show starting tonight on Syfy that could either be fun or really ridiculous. I’m hoping for the first. And it may seem like an April Fools’ Day prank, but it isn’t… Wynonna Earp follows Wyatt Earp’s great-granddaughter as she battles demons and other creatures. After years away, Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano, Damien, The Listener, Being Erica) has traveled back to her home town of Purgatory to reluctantly take on the role destined for Wyatt Earp’s heir: Demon protector. Her enemy: Revenants, the resurrected (and twisted) souls of the criminals Wyatt Earp once took down. Working alongside Wynonna is her sister Waverely (Dominique Provost-Chalkley), who has an obsession with their family’s legacy and is more than a little bitter that she wasn’t chosen as the heir to take over the family business; associate Agent Dolls (Shamier Anderson, The Next Step), an all-business straight shooter; and Wyatt’s cursed-with-immortality-best-friend Doc Holliday (Tim Rozon, Schitt’s Creek, Being Human, Lost Girl, Instant Star), a man with a thirst for revenge and on a mission to rectify the past. They must try to stop the Revenants from taking over the town – and escaping into the world.

Like I said, this could be a lot of fun or just silly enough to be stupid. But the premise is interesting, so it’s worth a shot to figure out if you’ll enjoy it or not!

On tonight’s episode, “Purgatory,” on her 27th birthday, Wynonna Earp reluctantly returns home to take on her family’s legendary curse.

Meet Wynonna and the rest of the Revenant-hunting gang tonight on Syfy at 10/9c.

rushhour331smallNot all movies translate well into TV shows, but they keep putting them out. One such new show is tonight’s premiere of Rush Hour, starring Justin Hires (TripTank, Key and Peele) as maverick Detective Carter of the LAPD and Jon Foo as by-the-book Detective Lee from Hong Kong. In the movie, Det. Lee comes to the US to search for a missing young girl. In the show, he comes over to avenge his sister’s alleged death and learn more about her connection to a Chinese organized crime ring. Just like in the movie, Carter is a wisecracking cop who plays by his own rules and Lee is a reserved, honorable master martial artist with lightning-fast moves. Joining them is Wendie Malick (Hot in Cleveland, Just Shoot Me), who plays Carter’s boss, Captain Cole; Aimee Garcia (Dexter, Vegas, Trauma), who plays Sergeant “Didi” Diaz, Carter’s friend & former partner; and Page Kennedy (Backstrom, Weeds), a low-level offender who runs with a tough crowd but is an informant for Carter…and his cousin.

I’ve seen tonight’s premiere, and I really enjoyed it. It’s not perfect, but I like the characters and their chemistry, and I like the story line that we learn in the first episode. The action is fun too, just like the movie. If you enjoy this type of show, you should definitely give it a shot!

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” cultures clash and tempers flare when Detective Lee, a stoic, by-the-book Hong Kong police detective, is paired with maverick LAPD Detective Carter in Los Angeles to investigate the theft of Chinese artifacts.

Meet Detectives Lee and Carter tonight on CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Big Bang Theory, Man vs Child: Chef Showdown, Cooks vs Cons, 2 Broke Girls, & Beat Bobby Flay.

empire330smallTonight, Empire finally returns to FOX after almost four months away. When we last left off, Cookie was busy setting up a concert for Family Day at her old prison. Meanwhile, Lucious was about to make his big announcement about SwiftStream and invited Mimi to the stage to do so, but in an unexpected twist, she called for a vote to remove Lucious as the head of the company. Afterwards, Camilla paid a visit to Hakeem, suggestively fondling him while promising to take his career to the next level. That seemed to be all the convincing he needed, because at the vote Hakeem voted to oust his father from his own company. At the end of the midseason finale, a very pregnant Rhonda was pushed down the stairs by an unknown assailant as the nominees for the American Sound Awards were announced on a TV in the background – both Jamal and Lucious were nominated for Song of the Year.

Is Rhonda dead? If not, did she lose the baby? Who attacked her, and what was their reason for doing so? What is Lucious going to do now that he has been ousted from his company – what kind of play will he make to regain control? How will Hakeem’s betrayal factor into all of this? And what kind of fallout will occur from Jamal and Lucious competing for the same award? It should be a fun, soapy second half to the season. I’m glad I was finally able to catch up over the winter break, because I’m looking forward to a lot more unexpected twists and turns.

On tonight’s episode, “Death Will Have His Day,” Lucious announces he will stop at nothing to be at the top of his company again, but he’ll have to make his way past Cookie first. Meanwhile, Rhonda, Andre, and the rest of the Lyon family struggle to come to terms with a horrific tragedy that will change their lives forever.

See what happened with Rhonda and the baby tonight on FOX at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Survivor, Criminal Minds, Heartbeat, Arrow, Supernatural, Baby Daddy, Lopez, and The Americans.
