Danger Will Robinson! Early this morning, Netflix released the first season of a new reboot of the sci-fi series Lost in Space, which updates and modifies some things from the classic 1965 series. The Robinson family — Marine John Robinson (Toby Stephens, Black Sails), his wife aerospace engineer Maureen (Molly Parker, House of Cards, Deadwood), and their three children, Judy (Taylor Russell, Falling Skies), Penny (Mina Sundwall, Freeheld), and Will (Maxwell Jenkins, Sense8) — is part of the 24th colonist group, which has left Earth in search of a better life on a new planet. They are aboard the Resolute space station, when they are forced to evacuate. Their Jupiter 2 escape ship crash lands on a mysterious planet. Everyone in the family has gone through rigorous training for this mission, and each brings some sort of skill to the table, but are they really prepared for what lies ahead?

Immediately upon their arrival, the Robinsons face one danger after the next, until Will befriends a strange robot with special abilities. Meanwhile, another Jupiter ship also crash lands on the planet. This one containing a roughneck/smuggler named Don West (Ignacio Serricchino, Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, Bones), and a mysterious woman secretly assuming the stolen identity of Dr. Smith (Parker Posey, Search Party). It is only a matter of time until this ragtag group will eventually come together and must work together in order to survive their new environment. But who can really be trusted? Everyone seems to have secrets they are hiding from one another, including the robot!

As the series opens, viewers are immediately thrust into the thick of the action as the Robinsons struggle to survive their harsh new environment. Through flashbacks, the series slowly reveals the characters’ backstories and pieces together the events that ultimately led up to the Robinsons’ crash onto this unknown planet. Where are they? How did they end up here? Who is “Dr. Smith”? Where did the robot come from? And what happened on the Resolute that caused the crash? The first two episodes of the series have some really tense moments and unexpected twists. I look forward to seeing what other turns of events, mysteries, and adventures await in the rest of the 10-episode first season!

Poor Otis on Chicago Fire. Boden went to him and offered him a (temporary) job of helping in admin at the station house while he recovers. He showed up to work, and it looked like it would be fine…and then the team got a call-out, and he had to wistfully watch as they left the building without him. He kind of rocked it, though, providing Connie with a super organized list of numbers she needs regularly and then getting info out of a young boy the team brought back after their call at the local swimming pool. And wasn’t THAT a fun one? A live wire had electrocuted the lifeguard and a man trying to rescue her and all the kids in the pool were in danger. They got all the kids to come to them at the edge…except one little boy. Kidd and the new guy (Cordova) had to jump in to get him, and all three BARELY escaped being shocked themselves. And just when Casey started to come around with Cordova, he learned by accident that Dawson had dated him for a little while years before. He was understandably ticked off that Gabby hadn’t told him herself, but he’s a good guy and he got over it — at least, that’s what it seems. Time will tell if that continues! LOL

But the highlight of the episode had to be Otis, who got the boy’s dad’s name (the kid said his mom’s name was Mommy. Too cute!) and their street name, and then he called Dad to come pick him up. Mom stormed in later, claiming Dad wasn’t supposed to have access to the kid. It looked like the CFD was going to be sued, even though they later found the boy safe and sound, but when Otis went to the house to apologize, he realized the couple was actually still a couple and had been scamming the CFD. Otis was pretty awesome in this one. And of course, we can’t forget Kidd trying to impress Severide’s mom… That went over like a lead balloon. His mom seems off somehow, especially since she acted so damaged by Severide’s dad (her ex-husband) but then at the end of the episode, they’d apparently slept together after she went to see him and face her past…and now they say they’re getting back together. Eek! Oh, and Gabby and Brett caught up with two paramedics who used to work for the fire department but who now work for a private ambulance company. Gabby was considering it…until they got caught in the middle of a gang gun battle and the other two hurried away because their company forbids them from taking “high-risk” patients (ie: ones who probably don’t have insurance). Luckily their friends from the firehouse got there in time to keep them safe, since the police showed up slow and late!

So how long will Otis be sidelined? Will it be permanent and he decides he can stay in the office instead? Would that even be possible? And what about Severide’s parents? Somehow I don’t see that one working out.

On tonight’s episode, “When They See Us Coming,” when the FBI takes over Firehouse 51 for an undercover mission, Casey and Severide volunteer to assist with the investigation. Kidd attempts to help Severide come to terms with recent developments he’s been managing.

Check out the FBI investigation and Casey & Severide’s help tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Big Bang Theory, Station 19, Beat Bobby Flay, Impractical Jokers, & S.W.A.T.

Tonight, Syfy’s outer space drama, The Expanse, returns for its third season. Last season, the crew of the Rocinante learned that the protomolecule had taken over Eros station and was heading directly for Earth. Miller sacrificed himself, causing the asteroid to crash into Venus. While this was happening, there was a mutiny on Tycho station, and the Belters managed to steal some of Earth’s nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, on Ganymede, the largest moon on Jupiter and home to the bio-domes that produced food for both Earth and Mars, Martian Bobbie discovered that her whole crew had been killed during a secret test of a new Martian weapon…a weaponized version of the protomolecule created by a scientist hired by Jules Mao. He was experimenting on children with a rare disease, using the protomolecule to mutate them into monsters. Bobbie sought asylum on Earth after learning that the Martians were trying to use her to cover up their weapons test. However, Avasarala was herself in danger after her own people turned on her.

Meanwhile, Holden and the gang teamed up with Prax to help him find his daughter Mei, one of the children being used for the experiments. Before they could find her, the Rocinante was attacked by one of the proto-mosters. They managed to lure it out of the ship and fry it in space using the ship’s blasters. Afterwards, Naomi admitted to Holden that, instead of burning up their sample of the protomolecule in the sun, she had given it to Fred Johnson — since the Earth and Mars both already had samples of the protomolecule, she figured the Belters should have it as well. As the season ended, Earth was investigating the crash on Venus when the protomolecule separated The Arboghast piece by piece, like a set of LEGOs.

What is this protomolecule, what can it do, and what does it want? How will Holden and the others react to Naomi’s news? Can Bobbie and Avasarala escape, and if they do, where can/will they go? There’s a war brewing between Earth, Mars, and the Belt, and all three sides are armed with weapons and the protomolecule. Can any side truly come out victorious from this situation? Tonight’s action-packed premiere picks up immediately where the second season left off. It’s a fun, exciting ride, and I look forward to seeing how the rest of the season plays out and what lies ahead for the characters.

On tonight’s season premiere, “Fight or Flight,” the Rocinante crew deals with the fallout over Naomi’s betrayal while caught in the middle of the war between Earth and Mars; Avasarala and Bobbie hatch an escape plan.

Find out the details about the escape plan tonight on Syfy at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Goldbergs, Alex, Inc., Modern Family, American Housewife, Designated Survivor, Survivor, The Blacklist, The Americans, Schitt’s Creek, and Krypton.

Tonight, New Girl returns to FOX to kick off its final season. I was surprised when the series was picked up for this final season, because I thought the sixth season did a nice job of providing a season finale that worked well as a series finale. As the sixth season came to a close, we finally learned that Schmidt’s real name is Winston. Also, Schmidt and Cece discovered that they were going to have a baby. Nick found a publisher for his book, “The Pepperwood Chronicles.” And after a few more near-misses, Jess and Nick finally proclaimed their love for one another, kissing in the elevator of their apartment building.

The new season picks up about three years later, on the day of Schmidt and Cece’s daughter’s third birthday. Jess and Nick have been away on a European book tour and haven’t seen their friends for the past six months. Meanwhile, Aly is seven months pregnant with her and Winston’s first child. I really enjoyed tonight’s premiere – it was great to get to spend more time with these characters and get a glimpse into their future. The show feels the same in many ways but also gets a bit of a reboot with the time jump (and with a coupe of the characters’ appearances). I look forward to seeing how the show comes to an end, what lies ahead for these characters, and what characters from the past will pop in for a final guest appearance.

On tonight’s episode, “About Three Years Later,” Jess and Nick return from a European book tour; Schmidt and Cece celebrate their daughter’s birthday with a party, where Jess runs into her ex; Winston and Aly try to pick a pregnancy photo.

Catch up with this group of friends tonight on FOX at 9:30/8:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Middle, black-ish, For the People, Rise, LA to Vegas, The Flash, Black Lightning, Legion, and The Last O.G..

Tonight, TBS premieres the new comedy The Last O.G.. Tracy Morgan (30 Rock, SNL) stars as Tray, a man who is released from prison after spending 15 years behind bars for selling drugs. However, he soon discovers that the world has changed a lot while he was in prison. Tray’s Brooklyn neighborhood has been gentrified and no longer resembles the hood he grew up in. His former girlfriend Shay (Tiffany Haddish, The Carmichael Show, Girls Trip) is now married to a white guy (Ryan Gaul, Superstore), who’s been helping to raise the teenage twins (Taylor Mosby & Dante Hoagland) Tray never even knew he had. Now Tray has put his life back together if he wants to be a part of his kids’ lives. Helping Tray adjust to his new life on the outside are his cousin Bobby (Allen Maldonado, black-ish) and halfway house administrator/wannabe comedian Mullins (Cedric the Entertainer).

This series has such a great cast, and it is especially great to see Tracy Morgan doing well and back doing what he does best. Tonight’s premiere primarily just introduces the characters and sets up the show’s premise, but it looks like this should be a really fun and heartwarming show once it gets going. Much like the other TBS comedies, the series will be serialized in its storytelling. Since I am an all or none type of person when it comes to watching a TV series, I definitely prefer this more serialized format, rather than a traditional sitcom that is more of a drop in/drop out setup that resets the status quo each week. I like to see the characters and storyline progress over the course of a season.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” ex-con Tray is shocked to see how much the world has changed when he’s released from prison for good behavior after a 15-year stint.

Catch the premiere tonight on TBS at 10:30/9:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Middle, black-ish, Splitting Up Together, For the People, Rise, LA to Vegas, The Mick, Black Lightning, and Legion.
