Last week was a repeat of SEAL Team because the network didn’t want to compete against the final game of the World Series, so it’s been a couple of weeks since the latest dramatic episode. The B story on that episode was kind of heartbreaking. Stella invited Clay to a party, and he took Brian with him. After the party, Clay and Stella spent the night together, and Brian, who’d worn a gaudy “cowboy” shirt to the party, got lucky with another young woman. The next morning, they were called in early to practice parachute jumping. Clay and Brian were in different jump groups. Clay and his group watched in horror from the ground as Brian’s group did their jump and one jumper had problems with their chute. The backup chute never deployed, and that jumper slammed into the ground full-speed. As Clay watched, every jumper pulled off their helmet…and he realized the one who’d fallen to his death had been Brian. We’d learned a few episodes ago that he & Brian had been friends for a good while, so Clay’s easy-to-see heartbreak was not a surprise. Hopefully this will be the impetus he needs to shape up and really make him do well during the rest of the training/testing.

As for the A story… Jason and the team were sent to an American Embassy in the South Sudan when the ambassador refused to evacuate as the country became increasingly unstable. Sure, he could have refused because he believed absolutely that staying was the right thing to do, but the only reason this guy refused to leave was all due to politics. Leaving would be a “failure” on his part and that wouldn’t be good when it came time for him to be permanently appointed (or whatever). The guy was a complete asshat, but the team finally convinced him to leave for the safety of the rest of the Americans in the small country. It was touch and go getting everyone out of the embassy safely, but with a little trickery, they were able to do it.

I’m enjoying this show more and more every episode, especially when they don’t use any fancy camera work to show us the night vision, etc, like they did the first ep. It still isn’t better than The Brave in terms of characters, but I’m enjoying it! I can’t wait to see how Brian’s death affects Clay going forward and if that shared loss of a friend/teammate gives him and Jason something more in common.

On tonight’s episode, “The Spinning Wheel,” the SEAL Team must work with Jason’s longtime rival, Beau Fuller (Sharif Atkins, White Collar, ER), and his team to plan and perfect a raid under the watchful eye of top military brass. Also, Clay delivers solemn news to a teammate’s next of kin.

See how well Jason and the team work with Fuller and his team tonight on CBS 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The 51st Annual CMA Awards, Law & Order: SVU, Property Brothers, Iron Chef Showdown, Chicago PD, & Criminal Minds.

The last episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine was epic – not only was it another fun Halloween episode that included the precinct facing off with one another trying to win the annual Halloween Heist, which brought back Fake Charles, Terry lifting a hugely heavy server, and everyone trying to outdo the others…but Jake actually proposed to Amy! At first she thought it was a play to win the heist, but when she realized he was serious, she said yes! It was SO cute! Like I said… Epic!

On tonight’s episode, “Bad Beat,” to track down the infamous arms dealer Dan “Daniel” Valdano (guest star David Figlioli, Murder in the First), Jake and Terry go undercover at an illegal gambling club, but when Holt gets involved to coach the two in the art of poker, his addiction resurfaces. Meanwhile, Boyle buys a food truck that was formerly used in a brutal string of murders without telling his investor (Amy), and Hitchcock and Scully challenge Rosa to a “Butt-lympics.”

See Amy’s reaction to the murder truck and find out who wins the “Butt-lympics” tonight on FOX at 9:30/8:30c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Lethal Weapon, NCIS, The Little Couple, Major Crimes, MasterChef Canada, The Mayor, Chopped, & NCIS: New Orleans.

I’m excited because A) it’s post-Halloween and B) shows like Holiday Baking Championship & Christmas Cookie Challenge are starting tonight. Add those up, and it means it’s the start of the holiday season! Thanksgiving in a few weeks and then Christmas a month later… It makes my heart happy. Lots of quality family time, great food, smiles… What isn’t to love about all that? And that’s why Food Network is my pick tonight for what you should watch.

Nine new bakers are competing in the Holiday Baking Championship to celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Chanukah. Jesse Palmer returns as host, while Duff Goldman, Nancy Fuller, and Lorraine Pascale are back as the judges. The contestants will make everything from a candy cane dessert to a fruitcake and more in order to win a $50,000 grand prize and the title of Holiday Baking Champion.

On tonight’s episode, “Holiday Party Delights,” to kick things off, nine bakers must create eye-catching and tantalizing new holiday treats for seasonal parties. In the pre-heat, bakers create a dessert with an unusual candy cane flavor, and then, for the main heat, they use a holiday cocktail as sweet inspiration. One unlucky baker goes home.

Christmas Cookie Challenge is new this season, with host Eddie Jackson (winner of Food Network Star) and lead judge Ree Drummond (The Pioneer Woman on Food Network). More like Chopped than Holiday Baking Championship, each episode will feature five talented cookie makers who compete in two challenges, the winner of which will walk away with a $10,000 prize each week. There will be a rotating panel of guest judges joining Ree Drummond, including Damiano Carrara, Dan Langan, Jamika Pessoa, Aarti Sequeira, and more.

On tonight’s episode, “Christmas Family Fun,” first up is the decorating challenge where the bakers craft two different decorated Christmas tree cookies, and two bakers go home. The remaining three finalists are “puzzled” by the display challenge, where they must create a giant cookie puzzle based on a Christmas carol.

Check out both shows tonight on Food Network starting at 9/8.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Dancing with the Stars, The Gifted, 9JKL, Scorpion, & The Brave.

There were several shows I was most looking forward to this season, all of which have the same feel and are in similar genres – The Brave & SEAL Team being the first two. The third? CBS’s S.W.A.T., starring Shemar Moore (Criminal Minds). The show comes from Shawn Ryan (if you were a fan of The Unit, Chicago Code, or The Shield, you’ll know the name), so I knew automatically between him and Shemar Moore, I’d have to check it out. Moore stars as a locally born SWAT sergeant, former Marine, Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, who is tasked suddenly to run the SWAT unit he’s a part of. Being raised in the area of LA that he was, Hondo has a tie to the community that the others don’t, and he hopes to be able to bridge the gap between his community and the cops.

His team includes: David “Deacon” Kay (Jay Harrington, Better Off Ted), an experienced SWAT officer; Christina “Chris” Alonso (Lina Esco, Cane, Open), a skilled officer & the team’s canine trainer; Dominique Luca (Kenny Johnson, Secrets & Lies, Bates Motel, & a whole host of guest spots on shows), an expert driver; Victor Tan (David Lim, Quantico), a relatively new SWAT officer who regularly uses his confidential informants in the community to help the team; and Jim Street (Alex Russell), a cocky but promising new member of the group. Jessica Cortez (Stephanie Sigman, The Arrangement ) oversees the unit as the captain of LA Metro, and Jeff Mumford (Peter Onorati, Murder in the First & a bunch of guest spots) leads another LA-based unit who has an intense rivalry with Hondo’s team. And finally, Louis Ferreira (whom I loved on Motive) is a recurring character with kind of a sad story line.

I have seen a handful of episodes so far of this show, and I really enjoy it. I liked it more and more each episode as I got to know the characters. There’s plenty of action, drama, and even a little romance to boot, so it’s got something for everyone. I hope you’ll give it a chance!

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” a locally born SWAT sergeant, former Marine Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson is newly tasked to run a specialized tactical unit that is the last stop in law enforcement in Los Angeles.

Don’t miss the exciting premiere tonight on CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, Chopped, Impractical Jokers, Will & Grace, Great News, Beat Bobby Flay, & Chicago Fire.
