Tonight, the fourth season of The Flash begins on The CW. As the third season came to a close, Team Flash had its final showdown with speedster Savitar, who turned out to be a future version of Barry. In the process, H.R. sacrificed himself to save Iris, Caitlin learned there’s a cure for her condition, Cisco modified Savitar’s stolen Speed Cannon so that it would release Jay Garrick from prison, and Gypsy returned from across the multiverse to save Cisco. During the final altercation, Barry couldn’t bring himself to kill Savitar, but Iris was more than willing to do the deed, shooting him dead. Afterwards, Central City was being rocked by earthquakes. The Speed Force was unstable and the prison needed a replacement, so Barry volunteered to go, since all of this mess was due to his selfish acts. Meanwhile, Caitlin refused to take the cure, as she wanted to figure out who she really was.

Who will step up to protect Central City in Barry’s absence? How and when will Barry return from the Speed Force, and how will his time there have affected him? With Caitlin refusing to take the cure, is there a danger of her becoming evil again? With H.R. dead, will we see another version of Dr. Wells appear to take his place?

The third season was a bit of a downer, with Barry constantly moping about something or further messing things up due to his selfishness. Also, it was the third year in a row where the big villain was yet another speedster. The producers have promised to address these issues this season, getting this back to a more chill Barry and the lighter, more fun show people loved in the first season. Also, this year the big bad will not be yet another speedster! The Flash still remains my favorite of The CW’s superhero shows, and I’m looking forward to another season.

On tonight’s premiere, “The Flash Reborn,” a powerful armored villain threatens to level Central City if the Flash doesn’t appear, so Cisco makes a risky decision to break Barry out of the speed force. But the Barry that comes out isn’t the same Barry that went in.

Find out what’s different about Barry since his return tonight on The CW at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Middle, Fresh Off the Boat, black-ish, The Mayor, Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders, The Mick, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, American Horror Story: Cult, and Chrisley Knows Best.

Last week’s Hawaii Five-0 premiere was a bit out there, even for me. I liked the introduction of new team member Tani Rey. She is definitely a female Steve McGarrett, in that she sometimes seems to act before she thinks. But she fit in well, as far as I could see. It’ll be interesting to learn more about her and her back story, including the brother we saw in one scene. I love the fact that Steve and Danny are actually going to open up a restaurant – although an Italian place in the middle of Chinatown is kinda funny. The case-of-the-week part was good, but I don’t know why Steve couldn’t life them all out on the straps he sent down, instead of lifting up the whole cabin with them inside. To me, that didn’t make any sense. LOL

Tonight we meet another new team member, Junior Reigns, played by Beulah Koale (who, according to Google, was born in New Zealand and is of Samoan descent, so at least he’s sort of like a native Hawaiian!).

On tonight’s episode, “Na la ‘ilio (Dog Days),” McGarrett and Five-0 work with an injured police dog who is the only witness to an ambushed drug bust. Also, McGarrett is visited by Junior Reigns, a former SEAL, who is looking to join the task force.

See how Junior joins the team tonight on CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Hell’s Kitchen, MacGyver, & Blue Bloods.

Tonight, Syfy kicks off a new Thursday night lineup, beginning with the second season premiere of Van Helsing. In the first season, Vanessa Helsing awoke from a long coma to find herself in a world overrun by vampires and learned that her young daughter was missing. She banded with a group of survivors while she looked for her daughter. In the process, she discovered that she had special powers — her blood could turn vampires back into humans. Dmitri, the leader of the vampires, managed to capture Vanessa and brought her to his citadel, where he had his doctor perform experiments on her, trying to learn more about her unique blood. However, the experiments seem to have left Vanessa with super-human strength, and she managed to break free. As Vanessa roamed the building, she found her daughter, but Dylan had been turned into a vampire. Meanwhile, Taka, with the help of vampire Rebecca, led a small Resistance army into the citadel to take down the vampires. While the others spread out, he found Dmitri and was about to kill him, when Dmitri made him an offer.

Tonight’s second season premiere picks up right where the first season left off. How will Vanessa deal with her vampire daughter? Will she try to use her blood to save her, or is it already too late? The same goes for Julius, who was also turned at the end of last season. What did Dmitri offer Taka, and will he betray the Resistance? Will Vanessa rejoin the others? How will she react to reuniting with Mohamad after his betrayal last season? It should be another exciting season!

While she’s not in tonight’s episode, Missy Peregrym (Rookie Blue) will be joining the cast this season as Scarlett Harker. I’m sure that last name is no coincidence, so I’m looking forward to seeing how she fits into the story. I had a chance to talk with some of the cast members and producers about the show at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. You can find my video interviews at NoReruns.net.

On tonight’s premiere, “Began Again,” Vanessa and Mohamad search for Dylan as Dmitri’s citadel crumbles around them; Flesh acquires an unexpected ally in one of the Resistance Fighters; Taka clashes with the Vampire Elite.

Catch all the action tonight on Syfy at 9/8c.

Last week’s premiere of Chicago PD was rough. Don’t get me wrong… It was great, and I enjoyed it. But it was tough for several reasons. One was because Erin was gone. Jay seemed…lost…a couple of times. When he walked through the empty apartment (well, almost empty… what was with that stack of books just randomly left there?!) and found the picture of the two of them, my shipper heart broke. I certainly don’t begrudge Sophia Bush for wanting to move on, but Erin Lindsay was one of my favorite characters on TV, and I loved shipping her and Halstead. Poor Voight was dealing with her absence as well, but he seemed to be handling it better than Halstead. I did like seeing Hailey on the team for good. She’s a good fit with the others so far. As for the story line, it was tough to watch, especially Halstead learning he was the one who shot the little girl, but in the end, it worked out okay. I also wasn’t thrilled about Voight’s former partner, Denny Woods (Mykelti Williamson), being back — having been found to be a “good cop,” really?! — and having been given the task of overseeing an internal investigation of Intelligence. Ugh.

Given the state of affairs in the world right now, tonight’s episode is going to hit hard for many people. But I also hope that it opens peoples’ eyes to show that you can’t judge a book by its cover…meaning you can’t judge one person based on what another person does/other people do. Hopefully it’ll be a good teaching episode as well as an entertaining one.

On tonight’s episode, “The Thing About Heroes,” after a van explodes during a Chicago street festival, a Muslim patrol officer Frank Toma (guest star Ben Youcef) goes missing, and evidence quickly piles up pointing to his involvement. Burgess — who helped train Toma — is desperate to prove his innocence, even if that means going against her superiors.

See how Burgess defends her friend tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Goldbergs, Law & Order: SVU, Modern Family, SEAL Team, Worst Cooks in America, American Housewife, Best Baker in America, & Criminal Minds.

ABC’s Tuesday comedy block is one of my favorites, and tonight new comedy The Mayor joins the lineup. Courtney Rose (Brandon Micheal Hall, Search Party) is a struggling 27-year-old rapper from California who decides to enter his local mayoral race in order to get some free promotion for his forthcoming album. However, when he ends up beating the incumbent (David Spade, Rules of Engagement), his mother Dina (Yvette Nicole Brown, Community) urges him to take the job seriously and use his new position to make a difference for his community. Aiding Courtney in this new political endeavor are his best friends Marcel (T.K. Clifton) & Jermaine (Bernard David Jones, Meet the Browns), and Valentina (Lea Michele, Glee, Scream Queens), the former mayor’s campaign manager.

I really enjoyed tonight’s premiere — this show has that perfect blend of humor and heart that the ABC comedies are known for. It’s just a fun, family friendly comedy. I’ve always enjoyed Yvette Nicole Brown’s work, so I’m happy to see her in yet another sitcom — and the same goes for Lea Michelle. This series looks like it will make a great addition to ABC’s Tuesday comedy lineup.

On tonight’s premiere, “Pilot,” Courtney runs for mayor as a publicity stunt and unexpectedly wins the election.

Cast your vote tonight on ABC at 9:30/8:30c.
