Tonight, Showtime kicks off the 6-part BBC comedy/thriller Ill Behaviour. Joel’s (Chris Geere, You’re the Worst) wife of 10 years has just divorced him, but his best friends Charlie (Tom Riley, DaVinci’s Demons) and Tess (Jessica Regan, Doctors) aren’t really that upset to see Steph go, as they never really liked her. While Joel wants to sulk and throw away his settlement money, his friends push him to get back into the dating world and set him up with American expat Nadia (Lizzy Caplan, Masters of Sex), an oncologist who also happens to be a raging alcoholic. When Charlie announces that he’s been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and that he’s abandoning chemotherapy in favor of more natural treatments, this causes tension and division among the friends. And Joel starts going to extreme measures to try to save his friend.

The series is written by Sam Bain (Peep Show) and directed by Steve Bendelack (Friday Night Dinner). While I wasn’t laughing out loud at tonight’s premiere, it did have some humorous moments. By the end of the episode, the writers have set up an interesting turn of events, which could lead to a lot more comedy. I have enjoyed this cast’s previous work and look forward to learning more about these characters and seeing how the story progresses.

On tonight’s premiere, “Episode 1,” following his divorce, Joel reunites with his best friends from college; Charlie sets Joel up with Nadia.

Meet Joel and his friends tonight on Showtime at 10:30/9:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Good Doctor, Man With a Plan, Superior Donuts, Lucifer, The Gifted, and Supergirl.

Last week on Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, things started weirdly as they aught on this show, with Amanda & Vogel emerging from a lake in the magical dimension of Wendamore. They were soon captured and locked in giant cages on wheels by a bunch of armored knights that happened upon them. Across timespace, Dirk had slipped down a slide in a closet, inside the Cardenas house he was investigating, which deposited him in some sort of parallel pocket dimension that was both still in the house and absolutely not in the house at the same time. Perfectly normal on this show.

The local cops Sherlock Hobbs and Tina Tevetino paired off with Todd & Farah to investigate any/all things occurring locally now. Todd & Sherlock spotted the bike Dirk used to peddle away from the police building and concluded he was in the Cardenas house. Once inside they answered a long-disconnected land-line phone to find it was Dirk calling, pleading for help. Todd tried to locate the slide Dirk fell down as a giant floppy beast pursued Dirk in the alternate house.

In Amanda’s captivity, she learned half the plot of the politics in Wendamore, while Holistic Assassin Bart Curlish learned the other half in the “real” world with the captive elven prince with pink manga hair. Meanwhile Farah & Deputy Tevetino investigated the disappearance of four women from a book club meeting. They deduced that Suzie Boreton might be the fifth person that was at the meeting who was not a pile of dust next to a wineglass. Todd decided to dive down the slide to try to help Dirk, who had just found a table that was bleeding excessively from a pair of scissors stabbed into it.

In holding, Amanda was powered up with electrical energy. In the pocket dimension of the alternate Cardenas house, Todd & Dirk were pursued by the one-eyed, one-horned, giant purple people eater. Todd decided to tackle Dirk out the door into the static television fuzz that seemed to be surrounding the house, and it landed them back in their world. But Todd hallucinated Amanda in the cage. Maybe he really saw her?

Farah & Tina arrived at Sally’s house, where she was actually being held at wand-point by The Mage inside, but they were called away to investigate the weirdness at the Cardenas house. Everyone met back at the station, where they confirmed that the scissors were the ones used in the murder that brought all these investigators together, but Dirk had a minor breakdown. Todd talked him through the existential crisis, and Dirk had a serendipitous insight.

In Wendamore, an emissary came for one of the people that was locked up with Amanda & Vogel. They sentenced her to death, but she was again charged up with electricity and slayed all the people set against them. They escaped into the woods. Back in the prime dimension, Dirk led everyone to uncover a map of Wendamore that was hidden under the wallpaper at the Cardenas house. The final scene saw The Mage tempting Suzie with promise of being an evil sorceress.

If you did not yet know? This show is based off a pair of novels written by Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide guy. Genius level sci-fi comedy. Zen Robot Llamas to the Nth. A hundred thumbs-up. If you are just hearing about this show, you need to binge watch season one and find a way to catch up on season two.

On tonight’s episode, “Shapes and Colors,” the case seems to take a major turn when Arnold, the adult son of the dead Cardenas couple, shows up. Meanwhile, Amada is led to a mystical coven in the woods of Wendimoor led by the forest witch Wakti Wapnasi, where she begins to master the unique powers she first experienced in Bergsberg.

Catch all the fun tonight on BBC America at 9/8c.

On last week’s episode of The Orville, the ship was docked for repairs, so Dr. Finn was taking her two sons for a vacation on a resort planet. Isaac was along for the ride as her pilot and to study Dr. Finn and her family to learn more about human nature. However, their shuttle hit some turbulence and they crash-landed on an uncharted moon far away from any help. Upon landing, Dr. Finn was separated from the others and was taken captive by a hermit who was living in a bunker where he was safe from the chemical weapon that has poisoned the water supply and had wiped out most of the food supply. Meanwhile, Isaac had to try to discipline the unruly boys while also trying to locate Dr. Finn and fix the shuttle in order to contact the Orville for help. And to make matters worse, the natives were circling, looking at the boys as a new food supply.

I am really enjoying this series. I like how they’ve managed to tackle some pretty serious topics but also manage to explain both sides and don’t get really preachy about one point of view or another. I was kind of surprised to see Isaac showing one of Dr. Finn’s young boys how to use a gun to kill the approaching aliens! The series has also done an excellent job at featuring different characters each week, giving them their own story lines. I haven’t been watching Star Trek Discovery due to CBS putting it behind their All Access paywall, but The Orville has certainly filled the Star Trek void for me.

On tonight’s episode, “Cupid’s Dagger,” the Orville is called to mediate a peace treaty between two warring cultures, but tensions run even higher between Ed and Kelly when a familiar face boards the ship. Meanwhile Yaphit declares his love for Dr. Finn with surprising results.

Find out who boards the ship and how Dr. Finn reacts tonight on FOX at 9:01/8:01c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Grey’s Anatomy, The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, Life in Pieces, Gotham, Nathan for You, Van Helsing, Ghost Wars, and Chrisley Knows Best.

Last week was a repeat of SEAL Team because the network didn’t want to compete against the final game of the World Series, so it’s been a couple of weeks since the latest dramatic episode. The B story on that episode was kind of heartbreaking. Stella invited Clay to a party, and he took Brian with him. After the party, Clay and Stella spent the night together, and Brian, who’d worn a gaudy “cowboy” shirt to the party, got lucky with another young woman. The next morning, they were called in early to practice parachute jumping. Clay and Brian were in different jump groups. Clay and his group watched in horror from the ground as Brian’s group did their jump and one jumper had problems with their chute. The backup chute never deployed, and that jumper slammed into the ground full-speed. As Clay watched, every jumper pulled off their helmet…and he realized the one who’d fallen to his death had been Brian. We’d learned a few episodes ago that he & Brian had been friends for a good while, so Clay’s easy-to-see heartbreak was not a surprise. Hopefully this will be the impetus he needs to shape up and really make him do well during the rest of the training/testing.

As for the A story… Jason and the team were sent to an American Embassy in the South Sudan when the ambassador refused to evacuate as the country became increasingly unstable. Sure, he could have refused because he believed absolutely that staying was the right thing to do, but the only reason this guy refused to leave was all due to politics. Leaving would be a “failure” on his part and that wouldn’t be good when it came time for him to be permanently appointed (or whatever). The guy was a complete asshat, but the team finally convinced him to leave for the safety of the rest of the Americans in the small country. It was touch and go getting everyone out of the embassy safely, but with a little trickery, they were able to do it.

I’m enjoying this show more and more every episode, especially when they don’t use any fancy camera work to show us the night vision, etc, like they did the first ep. It still isn’t better than The Brave in terms of characters, but I’m enjoying it! I can’t wait to see how Brian’s death affects Clay going forward and if that shared loss of a friend/teammate gives him and Jason something more in common.

On tonight’s episode, “The Spinning Wheel,” the SEAL Team must work with Jason’s longtime rival, Beau Fuller (Sharif Atkins, White Collar, ER), and his team to plan and perfect a raid under the watchful eye of top military brass. Also, Clay delivers solemn news to a teammate’s next of kin.

See how well Jason and the team work with Fuller and his team tonight on CBS 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The 51st Annual CMA Awards, Law & Order: SVU, Property Brothers, Iron Chef Showdown, Chicago PD, & Criminal Minds.

The last episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine was epic – not only was it another fun Halloween episode that included the precinct facing off with one another trying to win the annual Halloween Heist, which brought back Fake Charles, Terry lifting a hugely heavy server, and everyone trying to outdo the others…but Jake actually proposed to Amy! At first she thought it was a play to win the heist, but when she realized he was serious, she said yes! It was SO cute! Like I said… Epic!

On tonight’s episode, “Bad Beat,” to track down the infamous arms dealer Dan “Daniel” Valdano (guest star David Figlioli, Murder in the First), Jake and Terry go undercover at an illegal gambling club, but when Holt gets involved to coach the two in the art of poker, his addiction resurfaces. Meanwhile, Boyle buys a food truck that was formerly used in a brutal string of murders without telling his investor (Amy), and Hitchcock and Scully challenge Rosa to a “Butt-lympics.”

See Amy’s reaction to the murder truck and find out who wins the “Butt-lympics” tonight on FOX at 9:30/8:30c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Lethal Weapon, NCIS, The Little Couple, Major Crimes, MasterChef Canada, The Mayor, Chopped, & NCIS: New Orleans.
