limitless922smallPremiere week continues, and another drama that I’m definitely checking out is CBS’s Limitless. I haven’t seen the movie this is based on, but I’ve heard good things. Brian Finch (Jake McDorman, Manhattan Love Story, Greek) discovers NZT, a drug which boosts brain power by a huge percentage, giving the user extraordinary cognitive abilities. He is found out by FBI Special Agent Rebecca Harris (Jennifer Carpenter, Dexter) and is coerced into helping the FBI solve some of their most complex cases. Working with them is Special Agent Boyle (Hill Harper, CSI: NY), and their boss at the FBI is Nasreen “Naz” Pouran (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Grimm, Hostages). Brian also has a secret relationship with Senator Edward Mora (Bradley Cooper, Alias and the Limitless movie), who is a presidential hopeful and regular user of NZT himself.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” Brian Finch’s life takes an extraordinary turn when he uses a mysterious drug, NZT, that allows him to access his full brain capacity. However, when an NZT-related murder lands Brian on the FBI’s radar, he uses the drug in an attempt to stay ahead of the authorities long enough to clear his name.

Check out this new fast-paced drama tonight on CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing NCIS, The Muppets, NCIS: NOLA, Chopped, & Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris.

minorityreport921smallThere are a ton of great premieres tonight, but one I’m excited for (which, I know, a lot of critics and viewers aren’t…) is the first episode of Minority Report. I was a big fan of the movie, so when I heard about the TV adaptation, I was thrilled and very hopeful. If you aren’t familiar, here’s what you need to know. Years – decades – in the future, there were three children known as “precogs.” An older girl and two younger twin boys, they could see every murder happen within a hundred-mile radius. The program they were involved in with the government was called Precrime. That was the movie.

Fast forward 10 years after the Precrime program was done away with, and the kids were all sequestered away on an island and have all grown up. But Dash (Stark Sands), one of the twins, wanted to use his gift to help prevent those awful crimes. So he moved to Washington D.C., and he teams up with Detective Lara Vega (Meagan Good) on the sly to try once more to instead prevent the crimes that she’s been cleaning up after.

I’ve seen the pilot and really enjoyed it. There’s some fun action, great chemistry between Dash and Det. Vega, and the future-tech is great. So far, the cast is a good mix of fun personalities and characters. Nick Zano stars as Arthur, Dash’s twin brother, while Laura Regan plays Agatha, the third precog. Also starring are Wilmer Valderrama, Li Jun Li, and Zhane Hall.

Kyle got a chance to talk with the cast/creators of Minority Report at this year’s San Diego Comic Con. You can find his video Q&As at NoReruns.net.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” in order to stop crimes before they happen, Det. Lara Vega teams up with a precognitive named Dash, who utilizes his ability to see the future.

Don’t miss the beginning of the future tonight on FOX at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Big Bang Theory, Penn & Teller: Fool Us, Rachael Ray’s Kids Cook-Off, Life in Pieces, Scorpion, NCIS: LA, Blindspot, & Castle.

znation918smallLast week, Z Nation returned with a bang (or several). The missiles hit their targets, but our resilient survivors managed to dodge the blasts. Citizen Z finally got a chance to get out and fight some zombies and also put out an APB for Murphy, promising a fake reward for whomever brings him to the CDC HQ. So now everyone and his brother is out trying to capture our favorite zombie whisperer. However, Murphy has no interest in going to California; he just wants to enjoy his powers, which he uses to stop anyone who threatens him and his new protege Cassandra. When the rest of the group caught up with Murphy at his new lair, he arranged a zombie stripper show and sneaked out the back once a fight broke out in the club.

Will someone be able to wrangle Murphy long enough to get him to the CDC to find a cure (and try to claim the bounty)? Will Citizen Z leave what’s left of his bunker and join the rest of the group? What new dangers will the group face from the nuclear fallout? I can’t wait to see what zombie and human threats await this group and what other zombie wackiness we’ll get next!

On tonight’s episode, “White Light,” the heroes are reunited but soon find themselves navigating an unexpected tragedy as they engage in fierce fighting with both zombies and bounty hunters who are eager to capture Murphy, dead or alive. Meanwhile, Vasquez makes a strategic decision.

To see what tragedy the group faces, tune in to Syfy at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Continuum and the Doctor Who series 9 prequel short.

jeffdunham917smallI’m so excited for NBC’s lineup tonight. Two of my favorite performers have specials, which will make for a fantastic three hours of television.

First up, there’s the one-hour Jeff Dunham: Unhinged in Hollywood special with one of the most entertaining and talented ventriloquists in the world. The special will include a live performance by country music superstar Brad Paisley, as well as guest appearances by comedian-actor Chris Parnell and mixed martial arts fighter and former UFC champion Chuck Liddell. It will also include never before seen stand-up and behind-the-scenes sketches featuring Dunham and his beloved eccentric characters.

matfranco917smallFollowing that is the 2-hour Mat Franco’s Got Magic. Mat won the previous season of America’s Got Talent and is one of my favorite magicians ever. He’s adorable, but he’s also just darn funny and entertaining. The special will show Mat traveling from his home in Rhode Island to Las Vegas, stopping along the way to perform at incredible locations and for celebrities, everyday Americans, family, & friends. It will feature appearances by Neil Patrick Harris (who performs magic as well!), Heidi Klum, Rob Gronkowski, Jason Mraz, Penn & Teller, and others.

To enjoy this great three hours of TV, tune in to NBC at 8/7c & 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Chopped & Geeks Who Drink.

moonbeamcitysmallTonight, Comedy Central kicks off its new retro animated spoof of 1980s cop dramas, Moonbeam City. Rob Lowe stars as Dazzle Novak, an unpredictable, self-centered womanizer who works as a detective for the metropolitan police department. He’s constantly trying to prove that he’s the best cop on the force and is always playing a game of one-upmanship with equally competitive rival Rad Cunningham (Will Forte). Chief Pizzaz Miller (Elizabeth Banks) tries to reign in Dazzle but knows his unorthodox methods get the job done. Meanwhile, ambitious young rookie Chrysalis (Kate Mara) is trying to prove she’s ready to take on some cases.

The series is like Archer meets Miami Vice. It’s set in the flashy, neon style of the 1980s with a very synthy soundtrack. The cops of Moonbeam City don pastel suits as they chase down drug dealers, thieves, or whatever criminal element shows up that week. Dazzle is crude and politically incorrect but somehow manages to get the job done — and always finds time to hop into bed with some ladies. This is certainly not a show for kids — it’s very adult-themed and filled with sex, drugs, violence, and language.

While I wasn’t blown away by tonight’s episode, I did find a lot of humor, saw definite potential, and look forward to checking out more of the show. Rob Lowe is great, playing his typical larger-than-life Rob Lowe persona, while Will Forte gives an equally-entertaining performance as pretty much a less suave, more whiney Rob Lowe.

On tonight’s episode, “Mall Hath No Fury,” set in the mean streets of a crime-ridden metropolis, dashing but dim-witted detective Dazzle Novak is determined to get his “#1 Cop” mug back from his chief rival, Rad Cunningham, while an underworld kingpin wreaks havoc on Moonbeam City.

If you don’t want to wait, you can check out tonight’s premiere early on ComedyCentral.com.

Go back to the 1980s tonight on Comedy Central at 10:30/9:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Big Brother, MasterChef, Young & Hungry, Kevin From Work, The League, You’re the Worst, The Jim Gaffigan Show, Impastor, and Twinning,
