brooklyn9938smallLast week, it was finally time for the Boyle-Linetti wedding on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and while I wish it had been Charles & Gina getting married (they’re too funny together!), we got to watch the craziness that led up to his father and her mother finally exchanging vows. They had to contend with Jake & Amy catching a bad guy and getting dirty and losing the ring in the process, only to find it yet then get it stuck on Jake’s finger. Also, Charles’s dad freaked out and decided he had crap decision-making skills so he almost didn’t go through with the wedding. In the end, though, it was a fun, sweet moment with a fairly awkward kiss, and it was well worth the wait and the build up to the wedding day we’ve waited for all season.

On tonight’s episode, “Captain Peralta,” Jake’s mainly absentee father, Roger (guest star Bradley Whitford, The West Wing, Trophy Wife), comes to town to spend some time with his son. Jake can’t wait to see him, but Charles is skeptical of Roger’s intentions. Meanwhile, Holt tasks Amy, Terry, Gina, and Rosa with an impossible brain teaser in exchange for Beyoncé tickets.

To see which of the four takes home the tickets—if any—tune in to FOX at 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Guy’s Grocery Games, All-Star Academy, The Last Man on Earth, Battle Creek, & Cutthroat Kitchen.

hawaiifiveo36smallLast week’s Hawaii Five-0 was a strong ep for Steve & Danny, while the other cast members seemed to barely show up at all. When a jewelry store was robbed and the security guard—a retired cop—was killed, Five-0 began investigating. They quickly realized the killer had been shot by his partner in crime, and they put her under surveillance by staking out an apartment across the way from hers. The old woman who lived there was on vacation. As they kept an eye on the partner, they had visits from a drug-dealer neighbor and the sweetest old lady who ended up with an adorable story line with Jerry about a missing ficus tree. Jon Lovitz played a kookie pawn shop owner who was in on it but ended up helping them. Turned out the jewelry store owner was part of it all along. The original robber survived, only to play Terminator and come with (stolen) guns blazing, decked out in all the riot gear and Kevlar he could wear, to kill the jewelry store owner, shooting up cops left & right in the process. In the end, Kono tricked him and took him down.

The other part of the episode that was great was Steve and Danny going to couples therapy again. I loved how Steve gave up a tiny bit of control by letting Danny drive (his own car! LOL) after Danny bought him a guitar since Steve admitted to having played one when he was young but stopping when he got stage fright at the talent show.

On tonight’s episode, “Pono Kaulike (Justice for All),” McGarrett enlists Joe’s help after Danny and Chin are arrested for deadly past transgressions. Terry O’Quinn & Jimmy Buffett guest star.

To see if Danny and Chin can get out from under their murder (& more?) charges, tune in to CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Amazing Race, King of the Nerds, & Blue Bloods.

DIG -- Pictured: (l-r) -- (Photo by: Ronen Akerman/USA Network)Tonight, the epic 10-episode limited-series DIG premieres on USA Network, which has been described as Indiana Jones meets The Da Vinici Code. Peter Connelly (Jason Isaacs, Awake) is an American legal attaché (aka FBI Agent) working in Israel, who uses his casual relationship with boss Lynn Monahan (Anne Heche, Save Me) as a way to mask the pain of his personal life. When a young American archaeologist is murdered in Jerusalem, Lynn is under pressure from U.S. Ambassador Ruth Ridell (Regina Taylor, The Unit) to close the case as quickly as possible. However, Peter finds himself butting heads with Israeli National Police detective Golan Cohen (Ori Pfeffer, World War Z), who is doing his own investigation.

Peter becomes obsessed with the case, getting a bit too emotionally involved since the victim reminds him of someone he lost. But as he delves deeper into his investigation, Peter uncovers a much larger, centuries-old conspiracy that threatens to change the course of human history and life as we know it. Meanwhile, there are two other parallel stories happening in other parts of the world—one involving a religious cult and the other an ancient religious prophecy, both of which will ultimately tie into the answers Peter is looking for.

DIG comes from executive producers Tim Kring (Heroes, Touch) and Gideon Raff (Homeland) and is the perfect blend of these two men’s story-telling styles. Kring once again employs his technique of weaving together seemingly disconnected stories that will ultimately converge over the course of the series. And Raff’s contribution can be seen in the show’s internationally-set political and religious intrigue. The series’ amazing cast also includes Alison Sudol (Transparent), David Costabile (Breaking Bad), Richard E. Grant (Downton Abbey), Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under), and Omar Metwally (Non-Stop).

I’ve really enjoyed the first three episodes. The series looks beautiful and is suspenseful and action-packed. I look forward to discovering more about this underlying mystery and seeing how the three different stories all come together.

I recently had a chance to speak with executive producer Tim Kring about the series. You can find this at NoReruns.net.

On tonight’s extended-length premiere, “Pilot,” while investigating the murder of a young American woman in Jerusalem, an FBI agent stationed there discovers an ancient international conspiracy that threatens to change the entire course of human history, and he must unravel the mystery.

Catch the start of this new show tonight on USA Network at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, The Odd Couple, Grey’s Anatomy, American Crime, The Slap, The Blacklist, Allegiance, Archer, and Wizard Wars.

csicybersmallEveryone knows I love procedurals, so when I learned last season that there would be a new CSI spinoff, entitled CSI: Cyber, I was more than thrilled. I was even more excited when I learned that it would be headed up by Patricia Arquette, whom I adored on Medium. The show is inspired by real-life Cyber Psychologist Mary Aiken, and Patricia Arquette stars as Special Agent Avery Ryan, who heads the Cyber Crime Division of the FBI. The CCD solves cases that “start in the mind, live online and play out in the real world.” The rest of the cast is great too: James Van Der Beek, Peter MacNicol, Charley Koontz, Shad Moss, & Hayley Kiyoko. I especially love Peter MacNicol and James Van Der Beek, but the whole cast is fun to watch.

I’ve seen several episode, including tonight’s pilot, and I really enjoyed them. The cases are interesting, different, and fun. You get some of the CSI feel but combine that with Criminal Minds (especially the Garcia scenes, unsurprisingly).

On tonight’s episode, “Kidnapping 2.0,” Special Agent Avery Ryan and her team of FBI cyber analysts investigate a case of hacked baby monitors.

Check out the premiere tonight on CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Melissa & Joey, The Goldbergs, Criminal Minds, Modern Family, Mystery Diners, black-ish, Wahlburgers, & Donnie Loves Jenny.

hellskitchen33smallIt’s time for another season of Hell’s Kitchen, and even though this show is in its 14th season, I can’t get enough. I love cooking competition shows, but no matter how many new ones come out, this one is still at the top of my list because of the crazy antics that get brought out with all the chefs. The group of chefs this season appears to be quite the smorgasbord, but it is definitely going to be a hot season with drama, because this bunch looks feisty. I’m going to start a count of how many times someone messes up scallops in the season premiere.

On tonight’s episode, “18 Chefs Compete,” Chef Ramsay asks 18 new contestants to present their signature dishes in front of an audience, and the winning team earns a night with William Shatner; one team gets kicked out of the kitchen during the first dinner service.

To see how this group of 18 handles the heat in Ramsay’s kitchen, tune in to FOX at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching The Voice, Fresh Off the Boat, Pretty Little Liars, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Mindy Project, Chopped, Chicago Fire, and Gangland Undercover.
